  • Objectives: Guardians of patients have a great deal of influence on decision-making in the course of care in Korea. The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of nursing service satisfaction on hospital re-use intention in the guardians of patients admitted to comprehensive nursing care units. Methods: The survey was conducted on 151 guardians of patients hospitalized in comprehensive nursing care units of two general hospitals for four months beginning in September 2017. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analyses using SPSS/Win 21 software. Results: Nineteen percent of variance in hospital re-use intention was accounted for by reliability (t=3.31, p=.001), empathy (t=2.49, p=.014), and recommendations from others (t=2.49, p=.014). The explanatory power was significant (F=13.06, p<.001). Conclusions: To promote hospital reuse, nurses need to improve the quality of their nursing services. Emphasis should be on reliability and empathy among nursing service components. It is also necessary to consider ways to encourage guardians who used hospitals to recommend them to their acquaintances.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which affect the quality of nursing services and intention to revisit as perceived by hospitalized patients and nurses in medium sized urban hospitals. Methods: The SERVQUAL scale, a measurement of overall nursing services and intention to revisit a medical institution, was used. The sample consisted of 223 patients and 239 nurses from four medium sized hospitals in I city. Frequencies, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise method regression were used to analyze the data. Results: For expectation, nurse and patient perceptions were similar, but for performance, patient perception was significantly higher than nurse perception for five factors. The factors affecting intention to revisit the hospital were those recommending, satisfaction with medical and nursing services. Conclusion: The findings indicate that differences between expectations and performance for both patients and nurses need to be reduced in order to elevate patient satisfaction. A precondition for intention to revisit and increased satisfaction is the development of marketing strategies as well as intervention programs in nursing.

Method: The participants were 194 patients and 183 nurses in a general hospital in Seoul. The instruments were constructed based on a prior study review and revised after a pilot study with 3 patients. The questionnaire for nursing needs included questions on physical, therapeutic, emotional, educational and socioeconomic domains. Data were collected between February 29 and March 26 for patients and between February 19 and 26, 2002 for nurses. The data were analyzed with frequencies, percentiles, means and t-test. Results: The results were as follow: 1. The total score for perceived nursing needs by nurses was higher than that reported by patients except for socioeconomic needs. 2. There were significant differences between patients and nurses only in the emotional domain (t=3.50, p=.001). 3. The highest score was for therapeutic needs and the next was for educational needs. 4. Relatively higher scored items were for comfort care, prevention of nosocomial infections, immediate treatment, monitoring health condition, kindness, and explanation of tests and treatments.
