  • Due to the development of improved living conditions and medical technology in recent periodic taking drugs is increasing through the outpatient rather than inpatient hospital care. Particularly in the case of patients suffering from geriatric diseases. This geriatric patients should have more attention to the taking medication management because it must keep the medication period. In this paper, we propose and describe an taking medicine information service system for the period and stable taking medicine in patients using the NFC-based u-Drug Cap and technology development and system test results. The developed system is through proper taking medicine information and alarm of geriatric patients or elderly patients. The patient's health can be maintained by preventing not taking and over taking of medicine.

  • Prader Willi Syndrome(PWS) was first recognized and reported by Prader-Willi. The etiology of the syndrome is not fully understood, but 50-70% of the patients show small deletion in chromosome 15. Manifested symtoms vary according to developmental age. In early life, hypotonia, areflexia, feeding difficulties, hypothermia, microgenitalia, hypoplastic scrotum, cryptochordism were observed. But in several years, hypotonia disappears, and polyphagia, decreased satiety, psychomotor retardation, obesity, hypogonadism and short stature become main problems. Behavioural problems including temper and aggressive outbursts, stealing food, hoarding food, and self excoriating skin picking, trichotillomania are more prominent during adolescence and young adulthood. Also, irritable, depressed mood are described. Lots of psychological and behavioural problems explain the reason why psychiatrists have managed and reported this syndrome. However, there has been no official report of PWS in our country. So authors report the clinical characteristics and issues in management of a patient with PWS.

  • A person with neurological disorder is defined as a person with limitation of ambulation or basic life activity due to the cerebral palsy or traumatic brain damage, stroke. Recently, the DMFT of the children with neurological disorders is similar or lower than the DMFT of the children with no disability. But, this article is about the severe-early childhood caries in children with grade 1 neurological disorder. It is supposed that the primary motor impairment and secondary physical weakness, frequent hospitalization, sugar- rich food and drugs, lack of oral care, delayed dental visit made high caries susceptibility. In case of treatment of the children with severe neurological disorders, dentists should make a thorough caries preventive plan based on individualized caries risk assessment. Also parents and medical doctors should recognize the importance of oral care and do the early dental visit and home care.

  • Essential hyperhidrosis is a condition with excessive sweating, which may be localized in any part of the body Excessive sweating has a strong negative impact on the qual ty of life for many persons. From June 1992 to May 1996, 211 cases of thoracoscopic thoracic sympathectomy were performed in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Yongdong Severance Hospital, Seoul, Korea. Among the 211 cases, 192 patients had palmar hyperhidrosis, and 19 cases had facial hyperhidrosis. There were 121 males and 90 (tamales, and the ages ranged from 10 to 67 years(average: 24.82 years old). The average operation time and the average postoperative hospital stay were 91.94 minutes and 4.31 days, respectively. Perioperative courses were uneventful, and all the patients had immediate and complete relief of symptoms with mild compensatory sweating on the chest wall and the back. Even though a thoracoscopy has the possibility of emergency conversion to a thoracotomy and technical difficulties still exist, especially in patients with facial hyperhidrosis, our experience indicates that video-assisted thoracoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is a very safe and useful procedure for h perhidrosis.

  • Lung volume reduction surgery(LVRS) has recently been advocated as an alternative or a bridge to lung transplantation for patients with evere dibbling emphysema. This procedure is a palliative treatment performed to alleviate the dyspnea of patients with emphysema and improve performance in the activities of daily living. The rationale of lung volume reduction for generalized emphysema is that the removing of the diseased and functionless lung may improve the function of remaining, less diseased lung. The factors critical to the success of LVRS are careful patient selection, accurate localization of target areas, meticulous anesthetic and operative technique, and intensive postoperative support. We have experienced a case of severe emphysema in a 59-year-old male patient. After selection process and pulmonary rehabilitation, the patient was treated with video-assisted thoracoscopic LVRS and the post-operative course was uneventful.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out family member's perceptions of side rail use in geriatric hospital by Cavanagh's content analysis with in-depth interview. This finding of the study suggests that the six themes of these perceptions are precautionary safety supervision, movement convenience, ritualistic nursing, physical restraint, danger of wounds, and alternative methods in an older person ward, and that the cause of recognized perceptions is not based on actual events, but rather on relatives' perceived protective value. With the transition of medical industry environment, there is a significant emphasis on efficacy and effectiveness of practice, risk management and evidence-based practice. However, the issue of side rail use and physical restraints remains unsolved in care of older people. Nurses claim the necessity of regimented protocol and clarification from professional organization regarding the side rail use.

  • The study was aimed to identify the educational needs for gerontological nursing using the nursing diagnosis classification of hospital nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 245 nurses who had experience caring for older patients within 1-year at two nurse web cafes. As a result of the study, 43 nursing diagnoses were classified into 6 areas: acute care, daily life care, education and counseling, environment and resource management, health promotion, and geriatric disease management. Nursing educational needs differed according to the age, sex, marital status, education level, size of the hospital, and working experience of the nurse. In order to effectively perform nursing care for the elderly and geriatric patients, it may be necessary to investigate the needs of continuous education and develop a detailed education program.

  • In this study, we aimed to determine which medical conditions of the stroke patients admitted for rehabilitation more than four weeks after onset affect caregiver burden. Participants diagnosed with stroke and their respective primary caregivers were enrolled and assessed after an 8-week follow-up period. The areas of evaluation for stroke patients included neurologic state, cognition, performance in daily life movements, gait, and balance, and caregivers were evaluated in the area of burden. The evaluation was conducted at the start of the rehabilitation course and eight weeks later. Patient caregivers were found to be under mild to moderate burden while providing care throughout the hospitalization period. The patient's neurologic state and cognition were correlated with caregiver burden. In the all patient and the subacute stroke patient group, multiple regression analysis confirmed that the neurologic state and balance stability were factors that influenced caregiver burden. Hence, we suggest that improvement in the patient's balance stability be emphasized during the course of rehabilitation to mitigate caregiver burden.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of injury experiences (accidents and addictions) on healthcare use type. This study used the KNHANES VIII-2. Of 7,359 respondents, a total of 6,072 were included, with the exception of 1,287 who were in the age groups <20 years, had missing data, or inappropriately completed the questionnaire. Of these 6,072 respondents, data from 5,355 having injury experiences were used. Data were analyzed using an SPSS WIN 20.0 Version program. Younger age groups had injury affected (p<.05); poor perceived health status was significantly more likely to affect injury than good perceived health status (approx. 2.0-fold, p<.05). As for the number of injuries, emergency rooms were about 4-5 times more frequently used than inpatient or outpatient clinics among the injury treatment centers (p<.05). Injury can cause activity restriction and difficulties in daily life and there can be only a few types of healthcare use; therefore, it is necessary to reinforce relevant programs and make relevant policies.

Co. which RK-3 Auto Ref-keratometer's auto ophthalmoscope. The results were like these. Visual acuity of above 0.7 that can live without glasses was contained 44 men's eyes(24.4%) and 19 women s eyes(13.6%). These result are indicated that men have had more good visual acuity than women. Visual acuity of below 0.6 that cannot do normal life was contained 80.3% of the total patients. And amblyopia of below 0.3 and eyes which cannot be corrected were shown 44.4%(80 men's eyes and 55.7% 78 woman's eyes). Myopia was contained 119 eyes(43), hyperopia was contained 139 eyes (50.4%) and emmetropia was 6.5%. Astigmatism was shown 136 men s eyes (86.6%) and 97 women's eyes(81.5%). These results are indicated what many people accompany with astigmatism. And these ratio had some high percentages men rather than women. Direct astigmatic was contained 37 eyes (11.6%), Indirect astigmatic 81 eyes(25.3%) and Oblique Astigmatic 115 eyes(35.9%). As a of distributed result oblique astigmatic occupied best high point as 49.4% in 233 astigmatism and distributed the opposite direction as compared with normal irregular emmetropia not patient.
