In this paper, we consider the Marshall and Olkin's bivariate exponential model under random censorship for the distribution of failure times of a system with two components. We propose a bootstrap testing procedure for independence and compare the powers of it with other tests via Monte Carlo simulation.

In this paper we propose new nonparametric estimators of the survival function using spline function under the progressively random censoring scheme. This sampling scheme is applied in many practical situations such as clinical trials or the life testing problems. We also investigate the behaviors for some estimators in the proposed class and the performance of progressively random censoring scheme through the numerical examples and Monte Carlo simulation.

In this paper, we consider two components system having Marshall-Olkin's bivariate exponential model. For the bivariate random censorship, we obtain maximum likelihood estimators of parameters and system reliability. And we propose the methods of homogeniety and independence tests using asymptotic normality. Also we compute the estimators and p-values of the testings through Monte Carlo simulation.

임상실험이나 신뢰성공학 분야에서 임의 중단자료를 이용한 비모수적 신뢰도 추정량으로 Kaplan-Meier 추정량과 Nelson형 추정량이 많이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 Nelson형 추정량은 평균제곱오차의 관점에서 Kaplan-Meier 추정량보다 추정능력이 우수한 반면 편의는 신뢰도가 감소함에 따라 양의 방향으로 점증하는 소표본 특성을 갖는다. Nelson형 추정량의 이러한 특성 때문에 신뢰도의 함수로 표현되는 잔여수명 분위수함수 등의 추정시에는 평균제곱오차의 관점에서 Kaplan-Meier 추정량보다 추정능력이 떨어짐을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 점을 고려하여 이 두 추정량을 가중평균으로 통합한 새로운 비모수적 신뢰도 추정량을 제안하고 추정량의 특성을 비교 분석하였다.

In this parer, under random censorship model, an estimation of scale and shape parameters in Weibull lifetime model is considered. Based on nonparametric estimator of survival function, the least square method is proposed. The proposed estimation method is simple and the performance of the proposed estimator is as efficient as maximum likelihood estimators. An example is presented, using field winding data. Simulation studies are performed to compare the performaces of the proposed estimator and maximum likelihood estimator.

In this paper, we propose two Buckley-James type nonparametric estimators for entropy of lifetimes under random censorship model. We investigate the small sample behaviors of the proposed estimators when the underlying distribution has decreasing failure rate, constant failure rate, and increasing failure rate. Also some examples are illustrated for analysing data.

In life-testing experiments, in which the longest time an experimental unit is on test is not a failure time, but rather a censored observation. For the situation the Kaplan-Meier estimator is known to be a baised estimator of the survival function. Several modifications of the Kaplan-Meier estimator are examined and compared with bias and mean squared error.

The aims of this study were to propose a method of estimation for mean residual life function (MRLF) from conditional survival function using the Buckley and James's (1979) pseudo random variables, and then to assess the performance of the proposed method through the simulation studies. The mean squared error (MSE) of proposed method were less than those of the Cox's proportional hazard model (PHM) and Beran's nonparametric method for non-PHM case. Futhermore in the case of PHM, the MSE's of proposed method were similar to those of Cox's PHM. Finally, to evaluate the appropriateness of practical use, we applied the proposed method to the gastric cancer data. The data set consist of the 1, 192 patients with gastric cancer underwent surgery at the Department of Surgery, K-University Hospital.

Orostachys japonicus, called Wasong and used as anti-tumor medicinal plant, was cultivated in plastic house. The experiment was done to clarify the effect of long-day and night-break treatment at the timing of bolting on its morphological characters, organ dry weight and flowering of florets. After grown in 15cm plastic boxes containing 2:1 soil:peat moss mixture for about 4 months, long-day of 16 hours and night-break of 2 hours around midnight were treated from Sept. 9. The plants were sampled 5 times at 2-week interval after the treatments. Long-day and night-break treatment delayed the growth of inflorescence and showed greater stem diameter on the last sampling and no. of leaves and bracts than the natural daylength. The treatments also had greater leaf and bract dry weight since 2 weeks, and the other fraction and total dry weights since 4 weeks but less floret dry weight from 4 to 6 weeks after the treatments than the natural daylength. The treatments, however, decreased no. of flowered florets and ratio of flowering plants although all the treatments showed nearly the same no. of total florets per plant until 6 weeks after the treatments, late October, which resulted in the modification of source to sink or vice versa. In the natural daylength, the florets were functioned as sink, while root, leaf and bract as source, but in the long-day and night-break treatments stem and florets were done as sink.
