  • The recent spread of novel and highly variant pathogenic viruses, including the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), has increased the demand for diagnostic testing for rapid confirmation. This has resulted in investigating the functional capability of each space, and preparing facility guidelines to secure the safety of medical technologists. During viral evaluations, there is a requirement of negative pressure facilities along with thread separation, during pre-treatment of samples and before nucleic acid amplification. Space composition therefore needs to be planned by considering unidirectional air flow. This classification of safety management facilities is designated as biosafety level 2, and personal protective equipment is placed accordingly. In case of handling dangerous materials, they need to be carried out of the biosafety cabinet, and sterilizers are required for suitable disposal of infectious agents. A common feature of domestic laboratories is maintenance of the sample pre-treatment space at a negative pressure of -2.5 Pa or less, and arranging separate pre-treatment and reagent preparation spaces during the test process. We believe that the data generated in this study is meaningful, and offers an efficient direction and detailed flow for separation of the inspection process and space functions. Moreover, this study introduces construction of the laboratory by applying the safety management standards.

  • This study intends to research the spatial characteristics of Asian interim housing that accommodates sufferers pro tempore after disasters. The scope of this research covers the interim spaces used for housing people after natural disasters that occurred in Asia for the past fifteen years. Within this scope, literature review was conducted as the basis to derive the characteristics and environmental elements of interim housing, which provided the criteria to compare and evaluate cases of interim housing along with characteristic elements required of interim housing found in previous studies. According to literature review, interim housing can be classified by life-span, region, economy, climate, type, number of household, square measure, residential cost, structure/material, and service life. Within the scope of the present research, literature review showed a total of twenty-eight cases of interim housing in fifteen countries revealing a high rate of disaster occurrence in the subtropic and tropic climate of Southeast Asia. A great percentage of interim housing was used for long-term stay of over a year. The structure of interim housing varied from lightweight steel, wooden, masonry, membrane, to traditional structure and the type were divided into temporary shelter, transitional housing, temporary housing, and permanent housing. Followed by literature review, the characteristics required of post-disaster interim housing were analyzed based on previous research and case studies. The characteristics of interim housing can be divided into environmental, technological, and socio-cultural ones. Sub-characterical items according to such division include amenity, health, surroundings, structure, convenience, eco-friendliness, safety, communication, and locality. As a result of evaluation, most items met the required characteristics of interim housing, while technological characteristics such as structure and convenience varied with the types of interim housing and appeared even unnecessary in some cases. According to analysis, amenity is maintained through the structural and material characteristics of interim housing and is also facilitated by increasing number of infrastructure such as educational, sanitary, and convenience facilities provided by the governmental and organizational bodies. It is expected that this study will be utilized as preliminary data for follow-up studies that improve the environment of post-disaster interim housing suitable for domestic circumstances in environmental, technological, and socio-cultural respects.

  • This study reported the treatment of a patient with excessive worn dentition and limited maxillo-mandibular space for restoration, utilizing the computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology. After the thorough examination of the patient's occlusal vertical dimension (OVD), full mouth rehabilitation was planned with increase of the OVD. The patient was satisfied with the provisional restorations establishing the increased OVD. The horizontal and vertical data of the patient's jaw relation that the provisional restorations contained were transferred to the definitive metal ceramic fixed prostheses by double scanning and three-dimensional printing. After the fixed restorations were cemented to the abutments, electronic surveying and three-dimensional printing were used to fabricate metal frameworks for the patient's removable partial dentures. The mandibular definitive removable prostheses were delivered to the patient's mouth and the full mouth rehabilitation procedures were completed. The digital technologies used for this case produced fixed and removable restorations satisfactory in masticatory, phonetic and aesthetic functions to both the patient and the dental clinician.

  • The purpose of this study is to have an opportunity to enhance the role of cultural intermediaries in the region as interest in the cultural media sector increased with the implementation of the Law for Promotion of Regional Culture. First, I discussed the need to pay attention to the local Cultural Intermediaries group as the background of the discussion, confirming that the existing research on the cultural mediation sector was focused on cultural workers in public institutions and government projects. Next, for the theoretical discussion, I reviewed the role of cultural intermediaries contributing to the production of meaning via the concept of cultural intermediaries by Pierre Bourdieu, and described that the mediation of regions and cultures began to emerge as an alternative to the existing centralized structure of cultural production in the context of Korea after the late 1990s. It was found that practices that mediate the region and culture were developed around the group of public artists and cultural activists and the intermediary group played a role in revealing various aspects of the region and dynamically constructing the local public sphere through these cultural practices. Lastly, local curator's cases (Space Beam, Space Imsi, Incheon Spectacle) were studied. The actual cases of activity were analyzed through the cultural practices by focusing on what alternative meanings had been produced in the region and how the region was represented. Each case showed the mediating activity that attempts to change the environment of life while sharing local issues with communities, projects that reconstructs the local professional art sector into a public sphere, and mediating activity that represents local daily culture and form networks through independent publications.

  • Schema integration is one of the most difficult issues in the heterogeneous and distributed geographic database systems (GDSs). As the use of spatial information in various application areas becomes increasingly popular, the integration of geographic information has become a crucial task for decision makers. Most existing schema integration techniques described in the database literature, however, do not address the problems of managing heterogeneities among complex objects that contain visual data and/or spatial and temporal information. The difficulties arise not only from the semantic conflicts, but also from the different representations of spatial models. Consequently, it is much more complex to achieve interoperability in the area of geographic databases. This research attempts to provide a solution to such problems. The research reported in this paper describes a schema integration methodology and a prototype toolkit developed to assist in schema integration activities for GDSs.

  • In the third comprehensive library development plan, the formal and informal social safety space function of the library is used as a project. Therefore, this study investigated whether libraries were designated as evacuation facilities and related service status, and librarians' awareness, perception and attitude toward disaster and disaster response services. Based on this, it was intended to propose a direction to activate disaster and disaster response services. The research results are as follows. First, it is necessary to improve the perception of librarians who are the service providers. Second, discussions on spatial aspects, such as temporary or permanent, are needed. Third, development of disaster and disaster-related service models is required. Fourth, the administration's support and management are essential for the effectiveness of the library's function as a social safety space. Fifth, when developing guidelines for the role of libraries as social shelters and related services, specific details to address the concerns of individual libraries and librarians need to be specified.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest development directions and elicit future research themes of U-City and future city by identifying the research trends of U-City theses. For this, meta-keywords were elicited based on the theses of U-City and future city published from mid 1990s to 2010. Centered on the meta-keywords, temporal keyword analysis was performed to compare the research trends of U-City and future city theses in Korea and oversea. The results show that most of U-City and future theses in Korea and oversea mainly dealt with technology. U-City theses in Korea have a tendency to research technology, methodology, service, planning and management in order from the early beginning. However, the U-City and future theses in oversea have a tendency to continuously study U-City applications to city through the model based on the technology and methodology. Therefore, the U-City research in Korea should focus on aspects of urban regeneration, urban scale, and so on. That is to say, the research in near future is required to apply the U-City to various urban themes.

  • During the past decades, the B+-tree has been most widely used as an index file structure for disk-resident databases. For the disk based B+-tree, a node update can be cheaply performed just by modifying its associated disk page in place. However, in case that the B+-tree is stored on flash memory, the traditional algorithms of the B+-tree come to be useless due to the prohibitive cost of in-place updates on flash memory. For this reason, the earlier schemes for flash memory B+-trees usually take an approach that saves B+-tree changes from real-time updates into extra temporary storage. Although that approach can easily prevent frequent in-place updates in the B+-tree, it can suffer from a waste of storage space and prolonged search times. Particularly, it is not allowable to process range searches on the leaf node level. To resolve such problems, we devise a new scheme in which the leaf nodes and their parent node are stored together in a single flash block, called the p-node block.

  • Recently, as per a representative education method to develop core capabilities (such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) problem based learning (PBL) has been widely adopted in universities. Two important features of PBL are 'collaboration between team members' and 'participation based self-directed learning'. These two features should be satisfied in online education, although it is difficult due to the limitation on space and time in the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper presents a new design of PBL class in Metaverse, based on improving the online PBL class operated in the previous semesters in the H university. In the proposed PBL class, students are able to display materials (e.g., image, pdf, video files) in 3D virtual space, that are related to problem solving. The 3D virtual space is called gallery in this paper. The concept of gallery allows for active participation of students. In addition, the gallery can be used as a tool for collaborative meeting or for final presentation. If possible, the new design of PBL class will be applied and its effectiveness will be analyzed.
