  • This study aimed to identify the mediating effect of resilience on the relationship between stress during clinical practices and clinical competence in nursing students. A total of 137 senior nursing students in three different universities located in C city were included. The study period was between October 15 and November 15, 2016, and the data were collected using by structured questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and Multiple regression using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. The average score of stress in clinical practice, clinical competence, and resilience were $3.09{\pm}0.43$, $3.54{\pm}0.45$ of 5 and $4.93{\pm}0.66$ of 7. There were significantly negative correlations between stress in clinical practice and resilience (r=-.24, p=.005), as well as stress in clinical practice and clinical competencies (r=-.21, p=.012), while there were significantly positive correlations between resilience and clinical competencies (r=.59, p<.001). Resilience had a full mediated effect between stress in clinical practices and clinical competencies, which showed the significance upon Sobel test (Z=-3.02, p=.003). Therefore, it is suggested that various training courses and programs for strengthening resilience should be developed and applied to nursing curriculum.

  • Background: This study analyzed the differences in practice satisfaction, major, and willingness to work abroad among dental hygiene department students at K University in Gangwon-do based on their participation in international practicums. Methods: A survey was conducted on a total of 215 students through convenience sampling of dental hygiene students, and the final 214 responses were analyzed. General characteristics were examined. Major satisfaction and grades were measured on a 5-point Likert scale. And satisfaction with practice, intention to participate in international practicums, and employment were investigated by papers. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed on general characteristics using SPSS software (version 26.0). Due to the convenience sample, nonparametric analysis was used to determine satisfaction with practice and major according to general characteristics using the Mann-whitney U and Kruskal-wallis test. An independent samples t-test was conducted to determine the difference between practice satisfaction and major satisfaction depending on participation in international practicums, and Fisher's exact test was conducted to determine practice satisfaction, willingness to participate in overseas internships, and employment. Results: Concerning future participation in international clinical practicums, 66.7% of students who had previously participated in overseas training expressed willingness to engage again. 40.9% of those who had not participated showed no intention of participating, and there was a significant difference (p<0.05). Additionally, 76.2% of the participants expressed interest in overseas employment, with this difference also being statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was confirmed that students' satisfaction with practice and major increased through participation in international practicums, and that they had a positive intention to work abroad and participate in overseas internship programs in the future.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between depression and communication skills and clinical practice stress among college nursing students. This study targeted 208 nursing college seniors in B city who have experience in clinical practice. Data were collected from September 1-30 2017 and were analyzed using descriptive analyses, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and Stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. The average score of communication skills was 3.73, the score of depression was 2.36, and the score of clinical practice stress was 2.88. Significant differences were found in clinical practice stress depending on gender (p=0.002), age (p=0.048), grade (p=0.001), satisfaction with college life (p<0.001), satisfaction with major (p=0.002), desired course (p=0.002), and satisfaction with clinical practice (p<0.001). Clinical practice stress was negatively related to communication skills (r=-0.17, p=0.016) and positively related to depression (r=0.37, p<0.001). Depression, satisfaction with clinical practice, grade, sex and religion had a high explanation rate of 26.9%, indicating that they were meaningful variables that influenced clinical practice stress. Overall, to decrease clinical practice stress among nursing students, it is necessary to develop an intervention program that can prevent and mitigate depression and improve communication skills.

The subjects were 180 college students who had completed clinical practice as part of their healthcare-related majors at C University in A-gun, B-do Province. Their completed questionnaires were collected between March 2 and March 5, 2020; 165 questionnaires were used for the data analysis. Questionnaires with missing or insincere responses were excluded. According to the results of this study, the students showed a mean of 3.99 points in their satisfaction with their major, 3.33 points in their career decision-making level, and 3.71 points in their satisfaction with clinical practice. Statistically significant positive correlations were found between the students' satisfaction with their major, their career decision-making level, and their satisfaction with clinical practice. In addition, their satisfaction with clinical practice produced a partial mediating effect on the relationship between their satisfaction with their major and their career decision-making level, and those with a higher level of satisfaction with their major and with their clinical practice also presented higher career decision-making levels. Therefore, the present study suggests that healthcare-related students' satisfaction with their major and with clinical practice should be enhanced to increase their career decision-making levels.

  • This study identified the differences and relationships between clinical practice stress, sleep quality, and daytime sleep disorder before and after clinical practice of college nursing students. The subjects were 130 students in the third year of nursing science. The results showed that the average clinical stress of the study subjects was 3.15 out of 5 points. Out of the external factors for clinical practice stress, the score for the task was 3.64. There was a significant difference in gender (t=-3.88, p<).001), subjective health status (F=5.78, p=.004), residence (F=3.20, p=.026). Nursing students showed lower sleep quality (80.0% before practice, 70.0% after practice), and those with daytime sleepiness (26.9% before practice, 42.3% after practice) were more than those of general college students. There was a difference between sleep quality (χ2=4.06, p=.004) and daytime sleepiness (χ2=6.08, p=.009) before and after clinical practice. There was also a negative correlation between daytime sleepiness and sleep quality (r=-.259, p<0.01). Therefore, strategies to reduce clinical practice stress and improve the quality of sleep are needed for the physical and mental health of nursing college students. The quality of nursing can be improved in the future by helping nursing students adapt to the clinical practice of changing nursing education field.

Participants were 199 baccalaureate nursing students (3rd and 4th grades) in 2 cities. The data was collected by questionnaires and were analyzed with the SPSS/Win 21.0 program, using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Significant positive correlations were among self-leadership, critical thinking disposition, satisfaction of clinical practice and clinical practice competency. The regression model explained 30.4% of satisfaction of clinical practice. The significant predictors of satisfaction of clinical practice were clinical experience, satisfaction of major, self-leadership and critical thinking disposition. The regression model explained 23.7% of clinical practice competency. Health status, self-leadership and critical thinking disposition were factors influencing clinical practice competency. It should strengthen self-leadership and encourage critical thinking disposition to improve nursing students' satisfaction of clinical practice and clinical practice competency.
