The Relationship between Emotional intelligence and Communication skill, Clinical competence & Clinical practice stress in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 감성지능과 의사소통능력, 임상수행능력, 임상실습스트레스와의 관계)

  • This study was done to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence and communication skill, clinical competence & clinical practice stress of nursing students. Subjects were 184 associate nursing students(2nd grade) in Korea. The data were collected using self -report questionnaire from jan 1 to february 29, 2012. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression using SPSS Win 18.0. Emotional intelligence were significantly correlation with communication skill, clinical competence and stress of clinical practice in nursing students. And the higher emotional intelligence was showed the higher communication skill, clinical competence and the lower stress of clinical practice. Therefore, To increase communication skill, clinical competence and to decrease stress of clinical practice of nursing students, it is necessary to develop and test the program for improving emotional intelligence of nursing students.

  • This study examined the influence of meta-cognition, self-efficiency and clinical competence in nursing students. A convenience sample of 153 subjects were recruited from fourth year nursing students, and the survey was conducted from September 1st to 30th 2015. The data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed SPSS/Win 18.0 program, using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical regression. Significant positive correlation among the meta-cognition, self-efficiency and clinical competence were found. The regression model explained 27% of the clinical competence. The meta-cognition and self-efficiency for the nursing students were factors influencing clinical competence. Therefor, it is necessary develop an educational program to improve the meta-cognition and self-efficiency of nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of satisfaction for clinical practice, critical thinking disposition on clinical competency in nursing students who have experienced non-face-to-face clinical practice. The participants in this study were 163 nursing students at four university. A on line survey was conducted from January 2021 to February, 2021. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, scheffé test, pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis by SPSS 22.0 version. The results of this study indicate that satisfaction for clinical practice, and critical thinking disposition have an influence on clinical competency in nursing students. The total explanation of clinical competency was 60.6%. Based on this, it is suggested to develop a program to improve clinical practice satisfaction and critical thinking tendency to increase clinical performance of nursing students who have experienced non-face-to-face clinical practice.

Relationship of Anxiety, Empathy, Ego-resilience and Clinical Competency in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 불안, 공감능력, 자아탄력성과 임상수행능력과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of anxiety, empathy, ego-resilience, and clinical competency of nursing students, and to examine the relationship of the variables. The participants were 197 nursing students. Data were collected from December 3 to 15, 2017 by taking a survey and analyzed with SPSS WIN 19.0 program(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The results of this study were as follows: The mean score of anxiety was $2.16{\pm}.51$, empathy was $3.51{\pm}.36$, ego-resilience was $2.83{\pm}.44$, and clinical competency was $3.65{\pm}.48$. There was significant differences in clinical competency by satisfaction with major, satisfaction with clinical practice. There were a negative correlation between clinical competency and anxiety(r=-.37, p<.001), a positive correlation between clinical competency and empathy(r=.34, p<.001) and a positive correlation between clinical competency and ego-resilience(r=.49, p<.001). Variables such as ego-resilience, empathy, anxiety, satisfaction with major and satisfaction with clinical practice explained 35.6% of variance in clinical competency. According to these result, there is a need to develop interventions and programs to increase the ego-resilience and empathy and to reduce the anxiety for improving clinical competency in nursing students.

Affecting Factors on Clinical Competence of Nursing Students (간호학생의 임상수행능력 영향 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of clinical competence and influencing factors of clinical competence in nursing students. The data was collected using questionnaire from 207 students who running the 2nd grade courses of nursing curricula in college and was performed from August 25 to September 15. In clinical competence, there were significant differences in satisfaction of major, satisfaction of clinical experience. There was a positive correlation among clinical competence and professional self-concept, critical thinking disposition and self-directed learning ability. The most effective factor on clinical competence was self-directed learning ability, followed by professional self-concept and critical thinking disposition. The study findings suggest that to develop the effective learning program with achievement level of clinical competency for nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of clinical competence and influencing factors of clinical competence in nursing students. Convenience sample of 197 subjects were recruited from two colleges in D city. The survey was conducted from March 2nd to 21th 2011. The data was collected by questionnaires and was analyzed with SPSS statistics 21.0. The mean score of clinical competence was 3.96. Significant positive correlation among clinical thinking disposition, problem solving ability, major satisfaction, satisfaction with clinical practice, clinical competence were found. It was found that the effect of clinical thinking disposition, completion of logic course, problem solving ability on clinical competence was 27.2% and clinical thinking disposition influence on clinical competence in nursing students. The study findings suggest that to develop the effective learning program with achievement level of clinical competency for nursing students.

  • This study was conducted to understand the correlation between clinical practice stress, grit, self-efficacy, and clinical performance of nursing students and to identify factors affecting clinical performance. A survey was conducted on 160 students in 3rd and 4th grade students enrolled in a nursing department located in G city. As a result of the study, clinical performance was negatively correlated with clinical practice stress(r=-.383, p< .001) and positively correlated with grit(r=.310, p< .001), self-efficacy (r=.327, p< .001). Factors affecting the clinical performance of nursing students were clinical practice stress(β=-.37, p<.001), clinical practice satisfaction (β=.35, p< .001), self-efficacy (β=.31, p< .001), grit (β=.28, p< .001) and the explanatory power was 42.8%. Based on the results of this study, in order to improve the clinical performance of nursing students, it is necessary to reduce the clinical practice stress and make them satisfied with the clinical practice. Effect of Integrated-Simulation Practice Education on Nursing Students' Communication Ability, Learning Confidence, Clinical Reasoning Competence, and Clinical Performance (통합시뮬레이션 실습 교육이 간호대학생의 의사소통능력, 학습자신감, 임상추론역량, 임상수행능력에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to examine the effects of integrated simulation practice education for nursing college students on their communication skills, self-efficacy in learning, clinical reasoning ability, and clinical performance through a pre-post quasi-experimental design with a single group. The participants were 41 fourth-year nursing college students from a university located in G City, and the intervention took place from September to November 2023 over a period of nine weeks. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0, and the research findings are as follows. First, after simulation practice education, significant effects were observed in self-efficacy in learning (t=-2.21, p=.033), clinical reasoning ability (t=-2.97, p=.005), and clinical performance (t=-2.84, p=.007), but no significant difference was found in communication skills (t=-.224, p=.824). Second, after simulation classes for nursing students, clinical performance showed significant positive correlations with communication skills (r=.650, p<.001), self-efficacy in learning (r=.440, p<.001), and clinical reasoning ability (r=.824, p<.001). Based on these results, integrated simulation practice education for nursing students appears to be an effective educational method for enhancing their self-efficacy in learning, clinical reasoning ability, and clinical performance. To improve nursing students' clinical performance, it is necessary to operate simulation practices with various scenarios.

Effects of Empathy, Communication skills and Resilience on the Adaptation of Clinical Practice in Nursing College Student (간호대학생의 공감능력과 의사소통능력, 회복탄력성이 임상실습적응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was attempted to provide basic data for preparing a learning strategy for effective clinical practice education by examining the effects of empathy, communication ability, and resilience on adaptation to clinical practice for nursing students. Participants in this study were 244 nursing students from 3 universities in B city. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 program with real number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The subjects' empathy ability was 3.49±.44 points, communication ability 3.86±.85 points, resilience 3.63±.56 points, and clinical practice adaptation 3.63±.52 points. Factors affecting adaptation to clinical practice were empathy, communication ability, and resilience, and the explanation power was 39.9%. Through the results of this study, it is necessary to prepare an educational program to improve empathy, communication ability and resilience that affect the adaptation to clinical practice of nursing students.

Factors Influencing Clinical Competence in General Hospital Nurses (종합병원 간호사의 임상수행능력 영향요인)

  • This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the clinical competence of nurses, using a descriptive correlational study design. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 170 nurses working in a general hospital in Gwangju city and Jeollanam-do province from March 24 to May 27, 2021. There were significant differences in clinical competence according to age, marital status, and educational level. Clinical competence was significantly correlated with nursing professionalism (r=.600, p<.001), critical-thinking disposition (r=.568, p<.001), communication skills (r=.658, p<.001), and nursing practice environment (r=.353, p<.001). Factors influencing clinical competence were communication skills, nursing professionalism, critical-thinking disposition, and age, which explained 54.0% of the total variance. It is necessary to develop educational programs to improve the communication skills, nursing professionalism, and critical-thinking disposition of nurses. Additionally, Institutional and national measures are needed so that nurses can continue to work in hospitals.
