The Study of the Improvement of Nursing Department Computer Education to the Adaptation for the Hospital Information System (병원정보시스템 적응을 위한 간호학과 컴퓨터 교육 개선방안에 관한 연구)

  • This study show the improvement of the capability of the handling computer in the job to students in science of nursing though the investment of the capacity of the computer application and the realities of handling computer in real. A cause of the development of the Information Technology, currently in the view point of system management, the hospital works is manage by the HIS(Hospital Information System). The teaching of the computer application capability for the information in science of nursing must not be the one-way by supplier like one of the survey courses but must be adapted at real condition and to be focused to learner. Thus, we suggest that the education of the science of nursing should be changed from one of the survey courses to the education of the acquirement and experience on information system knowledge.

A Comparative Study on Awareness the Dental Coordinator between Dental Hygienists and Dental Hygiene Students (치과위생사와 치위생과 학생의 치과코디네이터 인식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the business awareness of dental coordinators and preferred working condition according to educational period, to suggest what improvements should be made. A survey was conducted for a year and four months from March 2007 to June 2008, and the collected data were analyzed, which made use of ${\chi}^2$(Chi-square) test, t-test. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. In regard to preferred conditions of employment, a dental hospital (42.0%) was most preferred by the incumbent dental hygienists investigated, followed by a dental clinic(29.4%). The largest number of the students who took dental coordinator courses had a liking for a dental hospital(41.9%), followed by university hospital and general hospital(29.0%)(p<0.001). 2. As for perception of dental coordinator, all the dental hygienists were aware of that occupation, and most of the students(81.9%) were cognizant of it(p<0.001). Concerning the necessity of that occupation, the students who felt the need for that(94.8%) outnumbered the dental hygienists who did(85.2%)(p<0.05). 65.9 percent of the dental hygienists and 84.5 percent of the students looked upon a dental hygienist as the best occupation that also could serve as a dental coordinator(p<0.01). 3. Concerning a favorite type of work including an official title, the dental hygienists wanted to work as the chief of counseling section the most(34.1%), and the largest group of the students hoped to become a section chief or team leader(35.2%). In regard to the most integral field of work, the dental coordinators(51.1%) and students(65.8%) attached the most importance to counseling(p<0.05). 4. The dental hygienists were better gratified than the students in every regard(p<0.001). The former($4.00{\pm}0.41$) looked at that occupation in a better way than the students($3.81{\pm}0.50$) as well(p<0.01). The abovementioned findings suggested that it would be advisable to provide dental hygienists with a certain level of a clinical career with education in order to ensure the success of dental coordinator education.

Recommendations on the Direction of Radiology Practice Operation through the Evaluation of Practice Satisfaction before and after COVID-19 (COVID-19 전·후 임상 실습생의 만족도 평가를 통한 방사선학과 실습 운영 방향에 대한 제언)

  • This study was conducted to compare and evaluate the expectations and satisfaction of clinical practice for students who conducted practice at clinical practice institutions of various sizes before and after COVID-19, and to suggest future clinical practice guidance methods and operation directions. There was a significant difference in the evaluation of satisfaction with practice before and after COVID-19, especially after the evaluation of satisfaction with practice guidance, practice environment, and practice time. As a result of analyzing the decisive influencing factors related to practice satisfaction, students who conducted practice at university hospitals highly evaluated the institutional environmental factors, and students who conducted practice at small and medium-sized hospitals showed high satisfaction in participation-oriented practice. Therefore, it is thought that practice that utilizes the strengths and weaknesses of university hospitals and small and medium-sized hospitals will be more effective than clinical practice that relies only on university hospitals. However, in order to diversify the training institution to small and medium-sized hospitals, it is necessary to create a manual on standardized training courses, training methods, and evaluation methods suitable for the training goals and curriculum, and provide them to the institution. In addition, if it is operated through sufficient exchange of opinions and consultation with institutions, schools will be able to obtain opportunities to cultivate practical talents, and small and medium-sized hospitals with difficulties in expanding manpower will be able to secure excellent human resources first.

The Effects of Death Awareness, Turnover Intention, Job Stress, and Attitude Toward the Elderly on Clinical Competency of Long-Term Care Hospital Nurses (요양병원 간호사의 죽음인식, 이직의도, 직무스트레스, 노인에 대한 태도가 임상수행능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was attempted to provide basic data for developing future clinical competency enhancement of long-term care hospital nurses. Data were collected from 166 long-term care hospital nurses in G-do. Analysis was done using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple regression with IBM SPSS WIN/21.0. The subjects' clinical competency was positively correlated to death awareness (r=.28, p<.001). The most influential factor on the subjects' clinical competency was death awereness (β=.235, p=.002), followed by marital status 'married' (β=-.214, p=.004), and have choice in days off 'agree' (β=.235, p=.002). The explanatory power was 16.2% (F=10.528, p<.001). Therefore, educational programs raising awareness of death, consideration of fellow nurses to have days off when desired, and encouraging married nurses to work are needed to enhance the clinical competency of long-term care hospital nurses. Utilizing the results of this study as basic data for clinical competency enhancement and in working schedule adjustment of long-term care hospital nurses is expected.

The Role and Focus Areas of Medical Technologists in the Field of Diagnostic Tests in the COVID-19 Era (COVID-19 시대 임상병리사의 역할 및 영역)

  • This study attempted to provide the basic data for developing a system to identify the role of medical technologists and ensure an efficient response for quick and accurate diagnostic tests in the COVID-19 era. The research method involved using focus group interviews for a survey and analysis of 15 medical institutions. Eleven sample collection institutions, 10.4 medical technologists, 2.1 minutes of collection time, 5.4 hours of test time, 9,670 tests, 6.2 member test workforce size, and 7 screening center operating institutions were surveyed. The results of the focus group interview analysis revealed that there were no standardized guidelines covering working hours, area, and environment to protect sample collectors and testers in relation to the COVID-19 tests. Also, legal protection measures were insufficient in the event of accidental infections and there were no personnel regulations related to COVID-19. In addition, the professional training of sample collectors and molecular diagnostic testers was required for reliable COVID-19 testing. In conclusion, it is necessary to provide professional education through special test short-term training institutions to cope with emergency infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Legal systems should be put in place to protect the workforce and ensure stability.

Clinical Practicum Experiences of Local Nursing College Studentsat a University Hospital in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (일 지방 간호대학생의 수도권 대학병원 임상실습 경험 )

  • This study was conducted to examine the experiences of nursing students during a clinical practicum at a university hospital in the Seoul metropolitan area. The participants of the study were 12 senior nursing students from J city, and the data was collected from September 29 to October 12, 2017, using interview questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method. As a result of this study, there were three categories and nine theme clusters. In the category of 'high-quality practical education', 'the participants had high expectations prior to the practicum' and 'satisfaction with the practical instruction of education' as well as identified 'the opportunity to consider for future career'. In the category of 'experiences with independent social life', the participants described about their 'freedom away from everyday life', 'challenges of problem-solving alone', and identifying 'the importance of human relationships' in unfamiliar surroundings. In the category of 'lack of support system in practicum', the participants reported 'difficulties in preparing for practicum due to lack of information', 'lack of financial support' and 'the fear of living in an unsafe environment'. The results of the study will be used to as a basic data to find a high-quality clinical practice education environment by identifying what clinical practice students experience at university hospitals in the metropolitan area.

Influencing factors on health education performance of nurse in health promoting hospitals (건강증진병원 간호사의 건강교육수행 영향요인)

  • This study aimed to identify the factors influencing health education performance of health promoting hospital nurses. The study was conducted with 231 nurses from four health promoting hospitals. Data were collected from May to June, 2013. Health education performance was positively correlated with education level, years of clinical experience, health promotion role recognition, and self efficacy for health education. Health promotion role recognition (${\beta}=.246$, p=.001), self-efficacy for health education (${\beta}=.282$, p <.001), and clinical experiences (${\beta}=.170$, p=.007) were significant predictors of health promoting hospital nurses' health education performance and explained 27.8% of the variance. The strategies to improve health promotion role recognition and self-efficacy for health education should be developed to improve health education performance of health promoting hospital nurses.

Study on Clinical Education for Nursing in Hospitals in Korea (간호학 임상실습교육 실태 조사)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the current state of clinical nursing education at hospitals. Methods: Questionnaires were sent out to 236 hospitals which have over 300 beds. Out of these, 116 hospitals responded, and the collected data was analyzed by mean, frequency, t-test, and ANOVA test. Results: These hospitals have teaching agreements with 4.2 nursing colleges and clinical education lasts 8 months. Clinical education status regarding hospital characteristics, between a university hospital, non-university hospitals, among advanced general hospitals, general hospitals, and special hospitals showed statistical differences in colleges per hospital and nurses' degree. 37.9% of cases have no internal regulation for nursing education, and in 68.1% of cases, students' practice was limited to simple nursing care. The current primary guide for student's practice was head nurse (61.25%), and the course professor took charge of mainly the conference. The difficulties as an educational hospital are increases in work load, difficulties in teaching, excessive number of students, simultaneous practical training, complaints from patients, lack in training manpower, and stress. Conclusion: This study determined that the big hospitals are heavily burdened by nursing education and that it will be necessary to establish standards for educational hospitals to ensure higher quality education.
