  • The studies were performed to obtain the basic informations on the influence of weather condition for grain yield and yield components in barley. The data of Olbori tested in 9 sites for 12 years were used in the studies. Milled grain yield was decreased in paddy field after rice harvested comparing to the upland condition, and yield potential was differed by test sites with the most stable yield in Gyeongnam. The coefficients of variation analyzed for milled grain yield by years were 12.2-42.6% with the differences between high-yield and low-yield year. Heading date was earlier in high-yield year and southern part compared to the low-yield year and middle part of the Korean peninsular showing the negative correlation between grain yield and heading date. High-yield year showed longer in culm length, shorter in spike length, almost same in number of grains per spike, and lower in 1,000grain weight compared to the low-yield year. Correlation analyzed between number of spikes and grain yield showed positive relationship. Temperatures affected to the grain yield analyzed by high in vegitative growth stage, low in alternative growth stage, and almost same in reproductive growth stage in high-yield year comparing to the low-yield year, however no remarkable differences of temperatures affected were detected in over wintering stage between high-yield and low-yield year. Precipitation amount in high-yield year was lesser in sowing time, more in seedling time, and lesser in over wintering time than those of the low-yield year. Correlation between rainfall amount in the early of April and grain yield showed significant negative correlation with the remarkable affects to the grain yield. Sunshine hours in high-yield year were longer in sowing time, shorter in over wintering time, and after the over wintering time to harvesting time was longer than those of the low-yie-ld year.

  • Here we reported an analyzing result for the relationship between climatic variables and rice(c.v. Odaebyeo and Ilpumbyeo) yield characteristics (including some growth characteristics) based on a long-term observed data at GARES and at KMA for rice and weather, respectively. Most of crop parameters investigated, such as heading date, culm height, panicle number $m^{-2}$, grain number $panicle^{-1}$ ripening rate, 1,000 grain weight and yield were strongly affected by wind velocity and relative humidity, as well as by daily mean air temperature, precipitation, sunshine hours and daily variations in air temperature depending on variety and crop developmental stages. Air velocity and relative humidity had not been studied as climatic variables affecting on the characteristics of rice growth and yield, however, they turned out to affect all the characteristics of rice investigated, especially ripening rate and yield, as much as any other climatic variables in this study. Air velocity appeared to affect highly the culm height and yield of Odaebyeo and ilpumbyeo. Relative humidity appeared to affect highly grain number and ripening rate of Odaebyeo and yield of Ilpumbyeo. Consequently Rice yield revealed to increase in the climatic conditions of high air velocity and low relative humidity.

  • The phenomena that we experience in everyday life such as snow, rain, wind, and temperature are referred to as weather, and the average state of atmospheric phenomena that occur over a long period of time in a specific region is referred to as climate. In addition, significant variation of climate compared to the average state is referred to as climate change. Concrete structures can have various problems when exposed to elements. Among the problems, the freeze-thaw problem due to extreme climatic factors such as heavy rain and snowfall has become a particularly significant issue recently. The concrete that has been subjected to repeated freeze-thaw rather than too high or low temperature shows serious degradation of durability, and the performance of structures with degraded performance is difficult to recover. Therefore, in this study, concrete durability performance with respect to freeze-thaw from curing conditions change due to wind speed and sunshine exposure time. Concrete freeze-thaw experiment are performed. using wind speed and sunlight exposure time. Also, performance based evaluation through the satisfaction curve based on the freeze-thaw test results are performed.

  • In order to examine the difference in processing quality of potato tubers among localities, chemical properties of soils were analyzed and climatic conditions were investigated. Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) were grown at seven localities of Korea during two years from 1994 to 1995. Soil samples and tubers were obtained from 2 to 3 commercial farms per locality with 10 days interval from 70 days before harvesting. As the result of that, higher correlation in processing quality was found with organic material content among soil conditions. On the climatic conditions, minimum temperature and sunshine hours during the period from 30 to 11 days before harvesting exhibited highly significant negative correlations with all quality parameters except reducing sugar content. Additionally, regression equations based on the observed level of these factors showed the relatively high coefficients of determination for dry matter content and chip color. To produce higher quality potatoes for processing, therefore, climatic conditions such as minimum temperature and sunshine hour and soil condition such as organic matter content have to be considered before the selection of areas or fields.

  • Eupatilin, one of representative medical components of mugwort, can be efficiently extracted from the 'Gangwha Sajabalssuk'. The Eupatilin content may depend on environmental factors such as soil and regional climate in addition to a genetic factor and Gangwha region has a profitable environmental condition for the mugwort growth. In this study, the climatological characteristics of Gangwha was analyzed in order to find the environmental condition of mugwort containing high Eupatilin in term of atmospheric, oceanographic and land variables. The climate of Gangwha is characterized by the relatively low daily temperature and large diurnal variation with plenty of solar radiation, long sunshine duration and less cloudiness. According to our correlation analysis, the long sunshine duration and the large diurnal temperature variation are highly correlated with the Eupatilin contents. The result implies that Gangwha has the favorable conditions for the cultivation and the habitat of the high-Eupatilin concentrated mugwort. Because of the sea surrounding Gangwha Island with low salinity and moderate wind, the salt contained in sea breeze is relatively low compared to other regions. Furthermore, Gangwha has clean atmospheric environment compared to other regions because the concentrations of toxic gases harmful to crop growth such as nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$), sulfite gas ($SO_2$) and fine dust (PM-10) are lower in the air. The ozone ($O_3$) concentration is moderate and within the level of natural production. It is also found that moderately coarse texture or fine loamy soils known as good for water drainage and for the growth and cultivation of the 'Gangwha-mugwort' are distributed throughout the areas around mountainous districts in Gangwha, coinciding with those of mugwort habitat.

  • Currently, extreme weather events such as super typhoon, extreme snowfall, and heat wave are frequently occurring all over the world by natural and human caused factors. After industrial growth in the 1970s, earth's temperature has risen sharply. due to greenhouse effect. Global warming can be attributed to gases emitted from using fossil fuel such as average carbon dioxide, perfluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, and methane. Especially, carbon dioxide has the highest composition of about 90%. in the fossile fuel usage emitted gas. Concrete has excellent durability as a building material climate change. However, due to various of physical and chemical environmental effect such as conditions during its curing process, the performance degradation may occur. Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causes steel corrosion and durability decreases by lowering the alkalinity of concrete. Therefore, in this study, concrete durability performance with respect to carbonation from curing conditions change due to wind speed and sunshine exposure time. Concrete carbonation experiment are performed. using wind speed (0, 2, 4, 6) m/s and sunlight exposure time (2, 4, 6, 8) hrs. Also, performance based evaluation through the satisfaction curve based on the carbonation depth and carbonation rate test results are performed.

  • Interrelationships between yields of Burley 21 variety and meteorological factors such as precipitation, duration of sunshine, and evaporation in Suweon, Chungju, Daegu, and Jeonju were investigated during the growing seasons from 1976 to 1985. Cultivation period from the 41st to the 60th day after transplanting which showed the highest transpiration by the tobacco plant was corresponding to relatively dry season in Korea from the middle of May to early of June. The meteorological factors during the middle stage of the tobacco growth, especially the 41st to the 80th day after transplanting, seemed to have higher correlation with tobacco yield, than any other periods. This result implied that the middle stage of the growth when tobacco plant consume more soil moisture by transpiration proved to be a important growth stage having a great influence upon tobacco productivity.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of sodding and seeding time and rate of seed mixtures on the establishment of cool-season turfgrasses by evaluating the turf coverage rates for two years. In fall planting, the required establishment period of full coverage($100\%$) was 1.5 months with a rolled turf sodding(Kentucky bluegrass $100\%$, Kentucky bluegrass $80\%$+perennial ryegrass $20\%$). The $100\%$ turf establishment was achieved in 7 months with Perennial ryegrass $100\%$, and 7.5 months by seeding with Kentucky bluegrass $100\%$(KB 100), Kentucky bluegrass $80\%$+perennial ryegrass $20\%$(KB80+PR20), Kentucky bluegrass $70\%$+perennial ryegrass $30\%$(KB70+PR30). In spring planting, the establishment periods far sod with KB 100 or KB80+PR20 were taken one month. However, in the case of seeding, the establishment periods were 3 months, 3.5 months, 3.5 months and 4 months with PR100, KB80+PR20, KB70+PR30, and KB 100, respectively Comparing the turf establishment vigor between fall and spring planting, the vigor was higher In spring planting than in fall planting in both sodding and . seeding. In the case of spring planting, the most proper time for turf establishment was tested on April, May, and June trials. The effect was significant in establishment vigor. The result showed highest on April planting. On May and June trials, establishment vigors were decreased gradually As the mixture rate of PR increased, ryegrass, establishment vigor was decreased with the rates. These results indicated that perennial ryegrass has relatively less tolerant to summer heat than Kentucky bluegrass. Number of shoots in 95 days after seeding was higher in KB100 by 16,600 per $m^2$ than in PR100 by 12,400 per $m^2$, while the lowest number showed in KB50+PR50 by 3,300 per $m^2$. Those in KB80:PR20, KB70:PR30 were 6,700 and 4,900 per $m^2$, respectively. The ratios of tillers according to mixture rates between Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass were KB80:PR20=87:13, KB70:PR30=78:22, and KB50:PR50=48:52. According to results in this study, Ideal seeding time might be spring (April) than in fall (September), and proper mixture rate was $80\%$ of Kentucky bluegrass with $20\%$ of perennial ryegrass.

  • The term, travel time reliability, refers to variations in journey time that travelers cannot predict. This issue has been one of the main research topics in transport studies. This paper, especially, investigates the value of travel time reliability. The marginal substitution rate method is suggested as the way for the valuation and travelers' stated preference data are collected based on a choice experiment. A mode choice model is estimated using the data surveyed. The parameters of travel costs and travel time reliability from the model are used to calculate the marginal substitution rate that is interpreted as the value of travel time reliability. The value is arranged by travel areas of intercity and urban trips and by journey purposes of working and non-working types. The result of this research is expected to be helpful of conducting more cautious economic feasibility studies of transport schemes.
