  • The purpose of this research is to find out whether children's self-efficacy can be improved by sensory activities devised to encourage spirituality. The survey involved 36 children aged 4 to 5. To measure the subjects' self-efficacy, Jeon Inok(1996)'s tool was used. The 18 members of the experimental group attended a program which was dedicated to promoting spirituality by using sensory activities. The program was administered three times a week for four weeks, totaling 12 sessions, each of which contained a type of activity and lasted about fifty minutes. To the 18 members of the control group, the standard child care curriculum was applied. The levels of the subjects' self-efficacy were measured twice, both in the same way, before and after the children participated in the program. The finding reveals that the program which was designed to boost children's spirituality through sensory activities has positive effect on children's self-efficiency - cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. The self-efficiency level in the experimental group significantly increased by t=7.17(df=34, p<.001) compared to the control group. So, it can be said that the program dedicated to improving spirituality using sensory activities is more effective than the standard child care curriculum.

  • The present study explored relationships between self-esteem, general self-efficacy and creative personality. The responses of 113 university students on self-esteem, general self-efficacy, and creative personality scales were collected and analyzed by Cronbach a tests, Pearson correlations and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that, first, there were significant positive relationships between self-esteem, general self-efficacy and creative personality. Second, the effects of self-esteem on creative personality were mediated by general self-efficacy. Finally, multiple regression analysis demonstrated that self-regulation and self-confidence among the sub-factors of general self-efficacy were good predictors of the creative personality. From these results we conclude that it is important to improve general self-efficacy in order to develop creative personality.

  • Purpose: This study examined the relationship among the use of food-related content (FRC), dietary behaviors, and dietary self-efficacy to demonstrate the need for nutrition education to help adolescents build healthy eating habits and provide evidence for developing nutrition education programs for adolescents. Methods: Three hundred and eighty-one high school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas participated in the study. The subjects were divided into three groups (low, medium, and high) according to the level of use of the FRC, and their general characteristics, dietary behaviors, and dietary self-efficacy were analyzed. Correlation analysis was performed between FRC usage, dietary behaviors, and dietary self-efficacy, and the mediating effects of dietary self-efficacy on the relationship between the level of the use of FRC and dietary behaviors were estimated. Results: A higher level of FRC usage was associated with an increased daily cost of eating out and snacking, but no difference was observed in the BMI range. The subjects in a group with a high level of FRC usage ate convenience store or instant foods instead of homemade meals (p = 0.033), had a late-night meal or snack (p = 0.024), and turned to emotional eating under stress (p < 0.001) more than those in the low level group. In addition, the high level group checked the nutrition facts label more carefully when purchasing processed foods (p = 0.016) and exercised at least 30 minutes daily, not considering physical education classes (p = 0.057). The higher level of FRC use, the lower the dietary self-efficacy, whereby the subscales 'environmental stimulus control efficacy' and 'affective factor control efficacy' showed complete mediating effects. Conclusion: Given that FRC has been increased recently, adolescents are in need of support to help them control and enhance their dietary self-efficacy as well as develop healthy dietary behaviors through proper nutrition education programs.

  • This study examined the mediating effects of social support on the relationship between self-efficacy and adjustment to university life. Data were collected from 202 university students attending K university in Jeonbuk province using self-reported questionnaires from April 1 to 30, 2017. The demographic characteristics, self-efficacy, social support and adjustment to university life were analyzed by descriptive statistical analyses. The difference in adjustment to university life by demographic characteristics was analyzed by the t-test and ANOVA with Scheffe's post hoc test, while the correlation between variables was measured using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. The mediating effects of social support were determined by the 3-step multiple regression method developed by Baron and Kenny, and the statistical significance of the mediating effect was measured using the Sobel test. Social support had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between self-efficacy and adjustment to university life. The results of this study will be useful a basic data for the development of a program to enhance self-efficacy and social support systems.

  • This research is a descriptive study intended to identify the factors involved in the influence of the emotional intelligence of nursing students on their career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision levels. The correlations among the major variables were analyzed by calculating the Pearson's correlation coefficients. To identify the effects of the subjects' general characteristics and emotional intelligence on their career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision levels, a multiple regression analysis was conducted. The analysis results showed that there were positive relationships among emotional intelligence, career decision making and career decision-making self-efficacy. The factors influencing career decision-making self-efficacy were gender (${\beta}=-.155$), motivation to find employment (${\beta}=-.145$), use of emotions (${\beta}=.236$), emotional control (${\beta}=.197$), and understanding of others' emotions (${\beta}=.157$). In addition, the factors affecting the subjects' career decision level were the year level (${\beta}=.273$), motivation to find employment (${\beta}=-.145$), motivation to obtain others' recommendation (${\beta}=-.138$), and emotional control (${\beta}=.223$). Hence, sufficient endorsement from school or home is required with regard to the roles and duties of a nurse, in order to motivate future students to select the nursing degree. Furthermore, it is suggested that emotional intelligence may be improved when the degree program provides a higher proportion of emotional education.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the Health Locus of Control (HLC), social support (SS), self-efficacy (SE) and Health Promoting Behavior (HPB) in middle-aged adults and the factors influencing their HPB. Data were collected from 137 middle-aged adults in the cities of Chungbuk and Chungnam for 2 months from July to August 2016 using structured questionnaires. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the HPB varied significantly according to the subjective health (F=10.14, p<.001) and economic level (F=3.32, p= .039) among the general characteristics. In the relationship between the major variables, the HPB showed a significant positive correlation with the SE (r=.44, p<.001) and SS (r=.45, p<.001). A multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effects of the general characteristics, HLC, SE, and SS on the HPB, and the results showed that the factors influencing the HPB were the subjective health status (${\beta}=.24$, p=.002), SE (${\beta}=.29$, p<.001), and SS (${\beta}=.30$, p<.001), and these factors showed a combined explanatory power of 36.4%. The results of this study suggest that the SE and SS are important factors affecting the HPB. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply a health promotion program reflecting the SE and SS, in order to (promote) the (HPB) of middle-aged adults.
