  • In this study, reinforced dual concrete beam (RDC beam) composed of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) in the tension part and normal strength concrete (NSC) in the compression and remaining part is proposed. It is the epochal structural system that improves the overall structural performances of beam by partially superseding the steel fiber reinforced concrete in the lower tension part of conventional reinforced concrete beam (RC beam). Flexural and shear tests are performed to prove the structural excellence of RDC beam in comparison with RC beam. An analytical method is proposed to understand the flexrual behavior and is compared to experimental results. And for shear behavior, experimental results are compared to empirical equations predicting the ultimate shear strength of full-depth fiber reinforced concrete beam to examine the behavior of RDC beam under shear. From this studies, it is proved that RDC beam has more superior structural performance than RC beam, and the analytical method for flexural behavior agrees well with experimental results, and the partial-depth fiber reinforcements have no noticeable effect on ultimate shear strength but it is considerably effective to control and prevent evolutions of crack.

  • This paper describes the effect of strain hardening cement composite (SHCC) material on structure performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams with high-strength reinforcing bar. Also, this paper explores the structure application of SHCC in order to mitigation cracking damage and improve the ductility of flexural RC members. The prediction model for flexural strength of doubly reinforced SHCC beams are investigated in this study. To achieve the these objectives, a total of 6 rectangular beam specimens were tested under four point monotonic loading condition. The main parameters included the types of cement composite and reinforcing bar. Test results indicated that reinforced beam specimens with SHCC material were improved the structure performances and damage characteristics. Specifically, replacement of conventional high-strength concrete with SHCC materials has the potential of high-strength steel bar as flexural reinforcement on RC members. It is remarkable that suggested method of reinforced SHCC beams with high-strength reinforcing bar could be used usefully to the structure design.

  • This paper describes an experimental study on the seawater resistance of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The test methods adopted for this study are divided into long-term immersion test and acceleration test by wetting and drying. Tests were carried out to evaluate the procedures which were measured for nine months about reduction in dynamic modulus, length change and compressive strength. Resistance indicators are the water-cement ratio, the content of steel fiber, the content of fly ash, the immersion water(artificial seawater or freshwater) and the types of curing. The seawater resistance of the appropriate additions of steel fiber and fly ash have apparently increased.

  • In this study, the thermal conductivity, physical and mechanical properties of lightweight aggregate concretes with hollow micro sphere(HMS) are experimentally examined as a basic research for the development of structural insulation concrete. As the results of this experiment, in the case of concrete mixed with HMS, the value of slump has been reduced, so it is found that the dosage of superplasticizer should be increased. As the replacement ratio of HMS increases, it has shown that the compressive strength is somewhat decreased due to the low interfacial adhesion strength of HMS. But the thermal conductivity is found to be greatly improved with the replacement ratio of HMS increases, the thermal conductivity of HMS shows the lower value of 68% at lightweight aggregate concrete and 32% of normal concrete. Also it is found that the compressive strength is decreased and thermal conductivity is increased as the water-cement ratio increases. The most outstanding for insulation performance is observed when using 20% of HMS and 50% of water-cement ratio.

  • Ten Half precast concrete slabs reinforced with welded deformed wire fabric were tested under two concentrated loads to investigate the flexural moment and ductile capacity. The test variables were the compressive strength of topping concrete, quantitative roughness, and reinforcernent ratio. The effects of each test variables were studied separately. Test results were as followings. The ultimate strength design method is applicable to predict flexural strength for Half P.C. concrete slab with welded deformed wire fabric and quantitative roughness. It is proper to consider 0.0035 strain ;is yielding stress of the welded deformed wire fabric. The ductility index of Half precast concrete slab with welded deformed wire fabric showed lower value. Therefore to enhance the ductility capacity the normal defomed bar should be used with the welded deformed wire fabric for the longitudinal reinforcement.

  • Concrete, as a porous construction material, permits chloride penetration from outside, which yields corrosion in embedded steel. In the study, an accelerated corrosion technique (ICM: Impressed current method) was adopted for rapid corrosion formation with 10 Volt of potential, and corrosion amou nt was controlled u p to 10.0 %. Corrosion amou nt had a linear relationship with cumulative corrosion current and increased with a quadratic function of accelerating period due to cracking. Regarding bond strength test, OPC concrete showed rapid drop of bond strength over 3.0 % of corrosion weight ratio, however slag concrete with 30 % replacement ratio showed a level of 51.4~71.6 % of corrosion ratio to OPC concrete with keeping residual bond strength.

  • Although the research of high strength materials is in process briskly in the inside and outside of the country, in south korea, the research of high strength materials is insufficiency. Generally shear resistance of RC beam is influenced dominantly by amount of shear-reinforcing bars($p_w$) and yied strength($f_{wy}$). Therefore, I come to the conclusion that if use shear reinforced bar with shear reinforced bar, it leads to decrease of the quantity of shear reinforced bar and effects on the security of shear-restraint force of member. This study experimented with not only the mixture of high strength-reinforced bar and U-shaped reinforcement normal strength -reinforced bar devises efficient improvement, but also it incites improvement of bond capacity and carries out an experimental study for improvement of member resisting force, finally it evaluates bond capacity quantitatively on the lines of main reinforcement the restraint method.

  • Concrete members with wide surface area are vulnerable to cracking due to material behavior such as hydration heat and drying shrinkage. Recently many researches have been performed on improvement of strength and cracking resistance through fiber reinforcement, which are mainly focused on enhancement of tensile strength against cracking due to material behavior. In this paper, CFs(Cellulous Fibers) are manufactured for slurry type, and the engineering properties in cement mortar incorporated with CFs are evaluated for flow-ability, compressive, and flexural strength. Through SEM analysis, a pull-off characteristics of CF in matrix are analyzed. With CF addition of $0.5kg/m^3{\sim}1.0kg/m^3$, flexural strength is much improved and enough toughness of pull-off is also observed unlike plastic fiber containing smooth surface.

  • Pull-off test is generally used to evaluate bond strength of FRP composite with concrete at job site. However, some damages on FRP composites can not be avoided during pull-off test and moreover test range of pull-off strength is limited by maximum tensile strength of concrete. Accordingly, it is required to set-up a test method that can evaluate mechanical properties of structural adhesive indirectly prior to pull-off test. In this study, the standard test methods for structural adhesive which can simply evaluate mechanical performance of adhesive were suggested through comparative experiments from each different standard in various countries. Particularly, gluing thickness of adhesive in tensile lap-shear tests, the section dimension of compression and bending test specimens become unified, and standard test specimen size is achieved by test results.

  • In concrete structural design provisons, there is a minimum allowable strain of steel to ensure a ductility of RC members and a c/d is limited for the same purpose in EC2. In general, a ductility capacity of RC members is evaluated by a displacement ductility which is a ratio of ultimate displacement to yield displacement, and it is necessary to calculate accurately a yield displacement and an ultimate displacement to evaluate a displacement ductility. But a displacement in members is affected by various member characteristics, so it is hard to calculate a displacement exactly. In this study, a displacement ductility is calculated by calculating a yield displacement and an ultimate displacement through a moment-curvature relationship. The main variables examined are concrete strength, yield strength, steel ratio, spacing of confinement, axial force ratio and concrete ultimate strain. As results, as a concrete strength is increased, a ductility displacement is increased. But as yield strength, steel ratio, spacing of confinement and axial force ratio are increased, a displacement ductility is decreased. And a displacement ductility is necessary to calculate a response modification factor (R) of columns for seismic design, so it is appeared that it is important to calculate a displacement ductility more accurately.
