  • To design structures with Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), it is necessary to estimate the mechanical properties first of all. The most attractive characteristics of UHPC are the considerable tensile strength and behavior. Therefore the most important thing in order to properly design UHPC structures is to establish the constitutive model to represent the tensile behavior of UHPC. In this study, it was tried to find out the tensile behavior of UHPC by experiments and analyses. Through comparisons with the French SETRA/AFGC recommendations and the Japanese recommendations for the Ultra High-Strength Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Structures, a reasonable model which could represent the tensile stress-strain relationship in the structural design was proposed

  • When the concrete is placed, the water, needed for hydration of the cement, is under 30% of W/C including bound and gel water. However, as minimum water content cause bad workability, the W/C have to be higher. Therefore, fresh concrete produce 10${\sim}$20% extra water. As those water remain entrapped air in the concrete, life of the structure is reduced because of the degradation caused by entrapped air. For that reason, if extra water is eliminated, it will be great to improve the durability of the structures. Therefore, this study was performed to verity the fundamental properties through the experiment on the dewatering system using the euro form for eliminating extra water. When the dewatering form was applicated, the compressive strength was increased by 16% than those of normal form. However, the increasing rate of compressive strength got lower as the height is higher. In terms of ultrasonic pulse speed and surface roughness, the dewatering form showed better results than the normal one.

  • This study was carried out to search for an effect on strengths of a pozzolan and a high-early strength cements due to accelerating the initial setting and a rate of strength development at early age, and to obtain the effects applicable for structural construction works safety in the cold winter weather. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The early strength of high-early strength cement was higher than an ordinary portland cement(Type I). 2. High-early strength cement had a characteristic suitable for construction works in the cold weather due to the rate of acceleration of the eary strength. 3. When using pozzolan cements, a weight proportion should be considered in mix design since the pozzolan cement has a lower specific gravity than other portland cements. 4. It was desirable for the pozzolan cement to shorten the storage period since particles of the pozzolan cement was so fine that it was likely to weathering.

  • This research aimed to enhance the initial strength of concrete that is mixed with ground granulated blast furnace slag, as well as to fortify its resistance to carbonation and chloride ion permeation. To achieve this, alkaline aqueous, produced through the electrolysis of potassium carbonate, was employed as the mixing water in the preparation of concrete. To substantiate the increment in initial strength, compressive strength measurements of the concrete were executed. Additionally, an accelerated carbonation test and a chloride ion permeation resistance test were undertaken. The results confirmed that the initial strength of the concrete, which utilized electrolysis alkaline aqueous as mixing water, exhibited an improvement in comparison to concrete mixed with conventional water. It was also verified that both carbonation resistance and chloride ion permeation resistance showed enhancements.

  • This study presented the experimental results on the durability properties of recycled aggregate concrete incorporating fly ash. The main experimental variables were the substitution ratio of recycled aggregate and fly ash, where the substitution ratios of recycled aggregate were 0, 30, and 50%, and those of fly ash were 0, 10, 20, and 30%. The tests for evaluating compressive strength, freezing-thawing resistance, and drying shrinkage were conducted for each specimen. As a result, the compressive strength and the durability of the recycled aggregate concrete were compared from those of ordinary concrete. The followings were conclusion; The compressive strengths of recycled aggregate concrete were less than those of ordinary concrete by 5-10%. However, the durability factor of recycled aggregate concrete remained above 90% at the substitution ratio of 30%. The quality of recycled aggregate concrete were improved by substitution at the range of less that 20% of fly ash and 30% of recycled aggregate.

  • Generally, the reinforced concrete slab has great fire resistance performance because concrete has excellent thermal material properties under fire. But, in the case of hollow slab, it will be expected that hollow slabs have different temperature distribution and fire endurance performance compare to reinforced concrete slab. Because hollow slab has internal void space that occurs decreasing regenerative effect of concrete and formation of internal air layer. Evaluation method for fire resistance performance of hollow slabs was proposed using $wickstr{\ddot{o}}m^{\prime}s$ method. For the casual use of evaluation, simplified method was proposed which was limited to solid slab and donut type hollow slab which was developed by authors of this research paper. Also, verification on proposed method was performed by comparing results of fire experiment for hollow slab and evaluation results. Proposed method of the results of this study was possible to predict the residual strength and temperature distribution of slabs under fire.

  • Recently, a stone is preferred as a cladding materials because of its outstanding durability and luxurious character. However, because of running out of natural resources and restriction of production, it is expected that difficulty of stable supply, and thus alternative cladding materials for concrete wall is needed. Therefore, in this research, as an alternative cladding materials, exposed-aggregate concrete is studied using saccharin based retarder. For evaluating factors, changing water-to-cement ratio, dosages of saccharin-based retarder, and timing of water jet washing were tested on the surface properties of exposed-aggregate concrete. As a result, the most favorable surface performance was obtained at 0.75 day after the placing in 25% of water-to-cement ratio, and at one day after the placing in 35 and 55% of water-to-cement ratio, 1.5 day after the placing in 65% of water-to-cement ratio with $24m{\ell}/m^2$ of retarder application.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of frost durability characteristics including freezing-thawing and de-icing salt scaling of the concrete for gutter of the road and marine structure. Mixtures were proportioned with the three level of water-binder ratio(W/B) and three binder compositions corresponding to Type I cement with 0%, 30% and 50% GGBS(Ground granulated blast furnace slag) replacement. Also, two different solutions of calcium chloride were used to evaluate their effect on the frost durability resistance. Specially, in case of complex of freezing and thawing with salt and carbonation, the deterioration of concrete surface is evaluated. Test results showed that the BFS30 and BFS50 mixture exhibited higher durability and lower mass loss values than those made with OPC mix and the use of GGBS can be used effectively in terms of economy and frost durability of the concrete to be in complex deterioration. Therefore, the resistance to complex deterioration with freezing-thawing was strongly influenced by the strength and the type of cement.

  • In a tension-controlled section, all steel tension reinforcement is assumed to yield at ultimate when using the strength design method to calculate the nominal flexural strength of members with steel reinforcement arranged in multiple layers. Therefore, the tension force is assumed to act at the centroid of the reinforcement with a magnitude equal to the area of tension reinforcement times the yield strength of steel. Because FRP materials have no plastic region, the stress in each reinforcement layer will vary depending on its distance from the neutral axis. Similarly, if different types of FRP bars are used to reinforce the same member, the stress level in each bar type will vary, and the member will show different behavior from our expectation. In this study, six high-strength concrete beam specimens reinforced with conventional steels, CFRP bars, and GFRP bars as flexural reinforcements were constructed and tested. The members reinforced with hybrid reinforcements showed higher stiffness, smaller crack width, and better ductility than the members reinforced with single type of FRP bars.

  • In order to know the range of install possibles of the horizontal stay without general stay, strength characteristic tests were performed for the Vertical and 80[$^{\circ}$] inclined concrete poles. From the results of one cycle strength tests, the safety factors were 2.8, 2.5 and 2.1 for the poles of general load, heavy load and high strength load, respectively. However, the crack was occurred when the bending bounds of upper part of pole was above 2[$^{\circ}$], and working load was similar to the rated load of pole at this time. Therefore, it could be concluded that the reinforcement by the installation of the stay and the support was necessary certainly, if the bending bounds of pole, which was installed on a solid foundation, are above 2[$^{\circ}$].
