  • D. W. KANG, J. S. CHOI, and G. R. TACK, A Study on Real-Time Sports Activity Classification & Monitoring Using a Tri-axial Accelerometer. Korean Jouranl of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 18, No. 2, pp. 59-64, 2008. This study was conducted to study the real-time sports activity classification and monitoring using single waist mounted tri-axial accelerometer. This monitoring system detects events of sports activities such as walking, running, cycling, transitions between movements, resting and emergency event of falls. Accelerometer module was developed small and easily attachable on waist using wireless communication system which does not constrain sports activities. The sensor signal was transferred to PC and each movement pattern was classified using the developed algorithm in real-time environment. To evaluate proposed algorithm, experiment was performed with several sports activities such as walking, running, cycling movement for 100sec each and falls, transition movements(sit to stand, lie to stand, stand to sit, lie to sit, stand to lie and sit to lie) for 20 times each with 5 healthy subjects. The results showed that successful detection rate of the system for all activities was 95.4%. In this study, through sports activity monitoring. it was possible to classify accurate sports activities and to notify emergency event such as falls. For further study, the accurate energy consumption algorithm for each sports activity is under development.

  • The transmission phenomenon of neuron action potential due to exterior stimulation is somewhat identical to electrical reaction configuration. Therefore, I tried to analyze the transmission status of membrane excitation, by introducing electrical concept to this issue in this paper. First of all, I researched the complex electrical status of axon, and then simplified the electrical circuit into pure resistance circuit under the assumption that it was reasonable in practice. And I derived the transmission status of exciting action potential through the simplified circuits using electical theory and mathematical concept. I calculated overshoot potential of a certain portion and then confirmed that it excited neighbor portion and made it to be transmitted using the proposed data which was typical in point of biological and electrical view to verify this result.

  • In the recent years, the development of coastal zone has been advancing, and the chance of leisure activity has increased near the sea. However, the destruction of ozone layer has resulted in an increase in the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth surface. The human body is harmfully influenced as skin cancer and eye damage by ultraviolet radiation. Especially, the effect of ultraviolet radiation on beach is higher than that inland area due to the reflection from the sand. This study is expected to use basic data on the method of measuring ultraviolet reflections on east coast beaches using remote sensing.

  • I made the axon to the electrical transmission model and then constructed electrical equivalent model using Kirhhoff's current law and voltage law in this paper. I calculated various axon parameters in order to analyze the electrical potential hehavior versus minute distance chang of axon. The transmission velocity of unmyelinated nerve is proportional to square root of axon diameter, while that of myelinated nerve is directly proportional to its diameter. Because the transmission of myelin sheath is independent of voltage unlike unmyelinated sheath, the Hodgkin-Huxley model across the membrane is not so precise.

  • The examination using diagnostic x-ray equipment is one of the most useful diagnostic equipment for identifying information in the human body in diagnostic radiology. For this reason, the number of examinations has recently increased a lot. Increasing the number of examinations will accelerate the aging of the device. In addition, this makes them aware of the importance of quality control for the diagnostic x-ray device. Particularly, in a diagnostic x-ray device, quality control refers to an act of always maintaining a certain level of image quality by identifying and correcting all problems that may lead to reduction of the diagnosis area in advance. Therefore, this study summarizes and reports general information about quality control in examinations using diagnostic x-ray equipment.

  • The element arsenic, which is abundant in the Earth's crust, is used for various industrial purposes including materials for disease treatment and household goods. Various human activities, such as the disposal of soil waste, metal mining and smelting, and combustion of fossil fuels, have caused the pollution of the environment with arsenic. Recently, guidelines for arsenic in rice have been adopted by the Korean ministry of food and drug safety to prevent health risks based on rice consumption. Because of the exposure to arsenic and its accumulation in the human body through various channels, such as air inhalation, skin contact, ingestion of drinking water, and food consumption, integrated multimedia risk assessment is required to adopt appropriate risk management policies. Therefore, integrated human health risk assessment was carried out in this study using integrated exposure assessment based on multimedia (e.g., air, water, and soil) and multi-route (e.g., oral, inhalation, and dermal) scenarios. The results show that oral uptake via drinking water is the most common pathway of arsenic into the human body, accounting for 57%-96% of the total arsenic exposure. Among various age groups, the highest exposures to arsenic were observed in infants because the body weight of infants is low and the surface areas of infant bodies are large. Based on the results of the exposure assessment, the cancer and non-cancer risks were calculated. The cancer risk for CTE and RME is in the range of 2.3E-05 to 6.7E-05 and thus is negligible because it does not exceed the cancer probability of 1.0E-04 for all age groups. On the other hand, the cancer risk for RME varies from 6.4E-05 to 1.8E-04 and from 1.3E-04 to 1.8E-04 for infants and preschool children, exceeding the excess cancer risk of 1.0E-04. The non-cancer risks range from 5.4E-02 to 1.9E-01 and from 1.5E-01 to 6.8E-01, respectively. They do not exceed the hazard index 1 for all scenarios and all ages.
