  • Products can maintain a high level of market share for many years by succeeding early in the development of a market. To overcome the benefit of pioneering a market, late entrants to the market can use differentiation strategies: developing novel attributes or enhancing preexisted attributes. In general, preexisted attributes are more memorable, but novel attributes can be weighted as heavily as preexisted attributes by contextual constraints. Based on the research of appraisal-congruent judgement, certainty appraisal dimension may affect the degree to which people engage in systematic or heuristic processing. This study examines the effects of alignability (the ease with which the attributes of one object can be aligned or mapped onto another object) of product attributes and certainty on consumer preferences for late entrants. Participants were induced to experience certainty and then completed a questionnaire. As predicted, participants induced certainty were likely to engage in heuristic processing, while participants induced uncertainty were likely to engage in systematic processing. This study provides an implication that companies should additionally consider consumers' feeling of certainty when launching a new brand.

  • The fashion industry in Korea has grown into a core sector that contributes to the development of national industries, but it has shown negative growth due to the advent of a low-growth era. This study aims to explore core texts related to variable factors affecting the apparel industry in Korea (and the environmental change factors of apparel companies) by using network analysis from a diachronic point of view. In addition, we discuss the implications of enhancing the value of fashion industries in Korea based on articles in fashion newspapers over five years. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, as a suggestion for political and economic aspects, the government should minimize the damage caused by political influence by presenting new policies, or by communicating about the practical aspects of geopolitical issues and changes linked to the fashion industry. Second, as a suggestion of socio-cultural aspects, it is necessary to reduce uncertainty about the future by establishing a strategic system through cooperation with institutions that can predict future directions. Third, as a suggestion for management changes in the apparel industry, apparel companies in Korea should recognize the importance of consciousness of promoting development for a better society from coexistence, rather than corporate profit.

  • Today, companies are facing business environments that are changing rapidly compared to the business environments of the past. These rapid changes can be observed in areas such as technology and market structure. To compete in rapidly changing business environments, companies are consistently releasing new innovative products to meet consumers' satisfaction. However, compared to the products that have already been successful in the past, innovative products have higher uncertainty in terms of meeting consumer's technical and emotional needs. Therefore, marketers of the companies put lots of efforts to reduce the risks of new innovative products' failure. In this study, we conducted 2(process simulation / outcome simulation) ${\times}2$ (hedonic / utilitarian) experiment to analyze the effect of mental simulation and product type on innovative new product evaluation. The results of this study are following. In process simulation, evaluation of utilitarian innovative new product was higher, but hedonic innovation showed higher evaluation in the outcome simulation. Based on research result, we recommend proper application of mental simulation.

  • We use nonlinear regression models (such as the Hill Model) when we analyze data in toxicology and/or pharmacology. In nonlinear regression models an estimator of parameters and estimation of measurement about uncertainty of the estimator are influenced by the variance structure of the error. Thus, estimation methods should be different depending on whether the data are homoscedastic or heteroscedastic. However, we do not know the variance structure of the error until we actually analyze the data. Therefore, developing estimation methods robust to the variance structure of the error is an important problem. In this paper we propose a method to estimate parameters in nonlinear regression models based on a preliminary test. We define an estimator which uses either the ordinary least square estimation method or the iterative weighted least square estimation method according to the results of a simple preliminary test for the equality of the error variance. The performance of the proposed estimator is compared to those of existing estimators by simulation studies. We also compare estimation methods using real data obtained from the National Toxicology program of the United States.

  • With regard to CSR, Proactive CSR has been less researched in small and medium enterprises(SMEs). This study examines empirically the association between SME's organizational capabilities, proactive CSR and performance as well as a moderating role of perceived uncertainty between capabilities and proactive CSR. Using quantitative data collected from sample of 485 SMEs in Korea, we find that all specified capabilities are positively associated with adoption of proactive CSR by SMEs and that proactive CSR is, in turn, associated with an improvement in firm performance. In addition, we also find a mediating role of proactive CSR on the association between capabilities and performance as well as a moderating role of perceived uncertainty between capabilities and performance. The study is likely to contribute to SME's CSR strategy.

  • Inquiry occupies an important place in science education, and research related to inquiry is widely conducted. However, due to the inclusiveness of the concept of "exploration," each researcher perceives its meaning differently, and approaches may vary. In addition, criticisms have been raised that the results of classes using inquiry in science education do not guarantee meaningful changes to students. Therefore, this study attempts to identify the trend of SSCI-level research papers dealing with inquiry in science education over the past three years to confirm the current status and effectiveness of the inquiry. Researches used in the analysis are International Journal of Science Education, Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Research in Science Education, and Science Education, and limited to those that directly suggest "inquiry (enquiry)" as a keyword. Based on extracted 75 papers, the classification process was conducted, and an analysis frame was derived inductively by reflecting the subject and characteristics. Specific cases for each category were presented by dividing into three aspects: perception and perspective on inquiry, support and strategy for inquiry, and teacher professional development for inquiry. The results of examining the implications for scientific inquiry are as follows: First, rather than defining inquiry as an implicit proposition or presenting it as a step-by-step procedure, it was induced to grasp the meaning of inquiry more comprehensively and holistically. Second, as to whether the inquiry-based instruction is effective in all aspects of the cognitive, functional, and affective domains of science, the limitations are clearly presented, and the context-dependent and subject-specific properties and limitations of inquiry are emphasized. Third, uncertainty in science inquiry-based instruction can help learners to begin their inquiry and develop interest, but in the process of recognizing data and restructuring knowledge, explicit and specific guidance and scaffolding should be provided at an appropriate timing.

  • Although it is uncertain that the cause of changed pattern of the natural disaster related to water (i.e. flood and drought) is due to excessive carbon dioxide yielded from economic activity or the increased number of sunspots, it is apparent that there have been unusual climate change that directly affects the water resource management. Due to such a frequent unusual weather activities, there have been increased natural disaster and the most direct and major reason is considered as climate change. As we see, the climate change necessarily causes social costs. Especially, the effects on the water resource due to flood and drought take the considerable part of such costs. Therefore, this study is basic work to develop a new economic analysis technique to be used in pursuing appropriate adaptation project in field of the amount of cost damage through analysis of the effects of the climate change on the water resource. The models appeared in many reports for cost assessment of climate change were various (e.g., PAGE, DICE, AIM, IMAGE, MERGE, and etc.) and this report summarizes general characteristics of each model. To assess the effects of climate change of the water management, we defined the field of the water management on climate change. The results help post-study in field of the climate change's social-economic effect assessment, can be employed for the prioritizing process of the national fund's investment.

  • This paper introduces a robot knowledge framework which is represented with multiple classes, levels and layers to implement robot intelligence at real environment for mobile robot. Our root knowledge framework consists of four classes of knowledge (KClass), axioms, rules, a hierarchy of three knowledge levels (KLevel) and three ontology layers (OLayer). Four KClasses including perception, model, activity and context class. One type of rules are used in a way of unidirectional reasoning. And, the other types of rules are used in a way of bi-directional reasoning. The robot knowledge framework enable a robot to integrate robot knowledge from levels of its own sensor data and primitive behaviors to levels of symbolic data and contextual information regardless of class of knowledge. With the integrated knowledge, a robot can have any queries not only through unidirectional reasoning between two adjacent layers but also through bidirectional reasoning among several layers even with uncertain and partial information. To verify our robot knowledge framework, several experiments are successfully performed for object recognition and navigation.
