Many biologists and various educational associations define evolution as a unifying theme as well as a central idea in biology. In this study, teacher education programs were developed as 18-hour courses on understanding the unified role and significance of evolution in biology, and their effectiveness was tested. As factors for the program content, enhancement of the acceptance of evolution, reinforcement of the conception of evolutionary theory, and recognizing and practicing evolution as the unifying nature of evolution were considered. Hands-on activities, self- and peer-evaluation, and projects based on the small teams including frequent questioning and feedback by instructors were considered methodological factors. Six in-service biology teachers and seven pre-service teachers took part in the programs of the graduate school of H university to testing their effectiveness. They were effective in improving the acceptance of evolution, the understanding of evolutionary mechanism, the perception on the unified role of evolution. The programs also induced a positive change in self-evaluation for knowledge of evolution and perception on importance of evolution in biology. Subsequent studies on whether the changed perceptions of the teachers who participated in the programs reflect on their biology classes in secondary schools after finishing the graduate program are required.

Method : We randomly divided 14 elderly people receiving daytime protection service from D daytime protection center for senior citizens located in Busan-si into a group(seven) with cognitive activity combined with virtual reality program, and the other group(seven) with only virtual reality program. In order to compare the balance ability before/after the therapeutic intervention, the Berg Balance Scale was carried out. The Mini-Mental State Examination-Korea(MMSE-K) was also conducted to compare their cognitive functions. Result : Both groups showed statistically significant differences in balance ability before/after the therapeutic intervention(p<.05) while there were no statistically significant differences in balance ability after the therapeutic intervention(p>.05). The cognitive functions before/after the therapeutic intervention were not statistically significantly different in both groups(p>.05). Conclusion : The findings showed that the application of virtual reality program combined with cognitive activity could improve elderly people's balance ability. It is considered that the application of virtual reality program can have positive influence on the improvement of elderly people's balance ability, as an intervention method for improving balance ability in the future.
Introduction : This study reviews the main areas of cognitive rehabilitation including executive dysfunction, memory dysfunction, perceptual dysfunction, attention deficit, and dysfunctions in activities of daily living in order to apply to the adaptation of occupational therapy. Body : Cognition programs based on the virtual reality are being used not only to evaluate but to train the overall components of human's cognition. Because the cognitive program is concentrating on the real environment, it is known to bring a remarkable transitional effect to the actual environment, compared to the basic computer-based evaluation and training. Applying virtual reality to the rehabilitation program can develop and advance the high technology and can result in a major effect on the innovative treatment technology. Conclusions : In this process, virtual reality is expected to be researched more in the near future. Particularly in the cognitive realm, it is imperative for researchers to pay attention to the improved transitional effect of the virtual reality toward the actual environment, rather than the already existing method of evaluations. Therefore, application of the virtual reality for the cognitive training should be researched for various types of subjects in the diverse aspects of congnitive function. Application of the virtual reality in the cognitive function has its unlimited potential, thus the rehabilitation program integrated with not only evaluation but training and education is expected extensively in the future.

The purpose of this study is to structure the system of reading strategy contents and seek a subject linkage method through using it. In order to establish the contents of reading strategy, the 2015 Korean High School Revised National Curriculum's contents system and advanced research were looked at. From that curricula, text areas(the types and fields, meaning structure) and cognitive strategy(reading methods and skills) are deduced and categorized. In addition to reading techniques reorganized by referring to worksheets of advanced researches, the system of reading strategy contents was made. As the result of applying it to the learning activities of "he Integrated Society" and "he Integrated Science" a subject linkage to learn the learning contents proposed providing a variety of reading materials related to the subject and running extended reading programs.
The purpose of this study was to examine the affective outcome according to KCUE-Q1 in nursing students. The survey was performed with 424 nursing students of 3-year or 4-year that scheduled to graduate from college. Collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The level of affective outcome was 2.69. The affective outcome was significantly different according to gender, grade, nursing education accreditation and club activity. Learning passion showed a positive correlation with learning experience and educational outcome. Learning experience showed a positive correlation with leaning passion and educational outcome. The findings of this study indicates a need to develop outcome-based nursing curriculum for nursing students. It is also necessary to evaluate affective outcome in undergraduate nursing students.

Purpose : There is a lack of research on this field in the Republic of Korea, especially those that have seen the effect of interaction between transcranial direct current stimulation and computerized cognitive rehabilitation therapy. This study divided 30 dementia patients into a treatment group, which received transcranial direct current stimulation and computerized cognitive rehabilitation, and a control group, which received pseudo-transcranial direct current stimulation and pseudo-computerized cognitive rehabilitation. This study evaluated the effects of these treatments on the visual perception, cognition functions, and daily activities of dementia patients. Methods : Fifteen subjects were allocated to the treatment group and the other 15 subjects were allocated to the control group. Treatments were given at intervals of five sessions per week (30 minutes per session) for six weeks (30 times in total). This study used the Neurobehavioral Cognitive Status Examination (NCSE) to examine cognitive functions, MVPT to evaluate visual perception, and FIM to test daily living activities before and after applying the treatments. Results : The results of this study showed that cognitive functions, visual perception, and daily living activities significantly (p<.05) improved after the intervention in the treatment group and the control group. The changes in cognitive functions, visual perception, and daily living activities due to the treatments were significantly different between the groups (p<.05). Conclusion : The results indicated that transcranial direct current stimulation and computerized cognitive rehabilitation therapy improved visual perception and daily living activities by increasing cognitive functions. Consequently, it was found that the simultaneous application of transcranial direct current stimulation in conjunction with a computerized cognitive rehabilitation program was an intervention method that could positively affect the visual perception, cognitive function, and daily living activities of dementia patients. Based on the results of this study, the study of arbitration protocols for demential will have to be more active.

Purpose : This study evaluated the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program on the depression, hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living of patients with mild cognitive impairment by dividing 20 patients with mild cognitive impairment and depression. The 20 patients were divided into a treatment group (transcranial direct current stimulation + a virtual reality program) and a control group (placebo transcranial direct current stimulation + a placebo virtual reality program). Methods : This study allocated ten subjects to the treatment group and ten subjects to the control group. The treatment was given five times per week for six weeks (30 sessions), and each session was 30 minutes. This study screened depression by using SGDS-K, a short geriatric depression scale, to examine depression before and after treatment intervention. This study also used the box and block test, NCSE, and FIM to evaluate hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living, respectively. Results : The results showed that depression significantly decreased, hand functions significantly increased, cognitive function significantly improved, and activities of daily living significantly increased after intervention in the treatment and control groups. The magnitude of changes in depression, hand functions, cognitive function, and activities of daily living was significantly different between the two groups after intervention (p>.05). Conclusion : The results showed that the application of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program could improve cognitive function, hand functions, and activities of daily living by decreasing depression. Therefore, it can be concluded that the simultaneous application of transcranial direct current stimulation and a virtual reality program is an intervention method, which can be applied for decreasing depression, enhancing hand functions, improving cognitive function, and increasing activities of daily living in patients with mild cognitive impairment.
