  • The discriminating power of journal evaluation criteria of Korean medical journals were measured. The study used the data of 76 medical journals, collected in the "Korean Medical Journal Evaluation" process conducted by the Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors (KAMJE) between 1997 and 1999. For each evaluation criterion, the distribution of the individual score vs the total score of a journal received was plotted and their correlations were analyzed. It is found that the evaluation criteria with a high discriminating power are the ones associated with the peer review system and the journal editing. The evaluation criteria with a low discriminating power are the journal frequency and how often a chief editor is changed. Some evaluation criteria such as "Journal holding rates of medical libraries" and "year-end index" need modifications in the evaluation methods. Other evaluation criteria such as "Journal self-citation rate","SCI citation rate" and "SCI impact factor" need to modify the score ranges. It is recommended that the new evaluation criteria such as "citation rate by Korean medical journals" and "Access availability of the journal information through major Korean medical abstract databases" should be added.formation through major Korean medical abstract databases" should be added.dded.

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the international standings of Korean medical journals and to provide a concrete journal evaluation data. The SciSearch database was searched for the 7,779 papers published in 8 Korean medical journals between 1989 and 1998. The frequency of citation to each journal was measured for each year, and the journal impact factor was calculated from 1991 to 1999 exactly as it is calculated in the Jour~~lnl Citation Reports (JCR). The Korean-language journals were rarely cited in SCI, even though the journals were of the medical areas where Korean researchers published a great deal of SCI papers. The number of citations to English-language journals started to grow from 1994 and increased rapidly from 1997. The citation interval is getting shorter, resulting in the drastic increases in the impact factors in the recent years. The nine-year averages of impact factors of the journals were distributed between 0.002 and 0.126. The international standings of Korean medical journals are very poor. When the impact factors were compared to those of SCI journals in the same subject category, Korean-language journals fell below the last SCI journals ranked by the impact factor, and the English-language journals were at the bottom among the SCI journals. The impact factors of 3 English-language Korean medical journals were about 2.0 when they became SCI journals in the late 1990s.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify important web pages in a particular area The basic premise is that citation analysis can show a similar relationship among different web pages. Web pages about‘weather’were found using a search engine Each web page was examined by hyperlink from other web pases and/or to other web pages. After this process, seven web pases are linked by many web pages. Seven web pages were analyzed by co-citation analysis. The result shows that selected web pages are linked by characteristics of information provided.

  • Thls study attempts to determ~ne the c~tedness of a scient~fic research paper wr~tten/published In Korea, one of the scient~fically per~phrral countries and the citednes ot a Korean sc~entist In mathematlc and chemistry. It was found that there is a neglig~ble proportion of c~tatlons In papers by fore~gn scientists to scient~fic l~terature from Korean and Korean sc~ent~sts. Thus, it can be true that Korean sclence or sc~ent~sts make a relatively small contr~but~on to world science: however it 1s also true that the per~pehral journal has ~ t s own scientif~c value follocal area.

  • This study was to investigate bibliography in other academic areas cited by records and archives management researchers, identify academic correlations between other academic areas and their independency, and present basic data for further research on this area. Also, this study conducts the following analyses. This study analysed statistical values such as frequency and percentage of 2,224 of 6,811 bibliographies cited by 383 articles which were issued until 2011 according to themes, periods of citation, age of citers and types of bibliography, targeting 'Archival Science Studies' by Korea Society of Archival Studies and 'Journal of Records Management and Archives Society of Korea' by Records Management and Archives Society of Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the type of cited materials, dependence ratio of foreign information of domestic researchers, and to predicts half-life of life science for the collection development of libraries and user friendly information services. The journal articles was extracted from five subjects-medical science, pharmacy, food science, agricultural science, microbiology. In result, it was found that it citing the scholarly journal most plentifully, and dependence ratio of foreign information of domestic researchers was high most the microbiology. And then, half-life of life science was found 8.98 in agricultural science, and 7.11 in food science, and 6.96 in pharmacy, and so on.

  • This research deals with the problems encountered in designing systems for more efficient and effective information retrieval used in the proliferation of literature. This research was designed to develop and test 1) the partitioning a large bibliographic data base into quality oriented subsets (quality filtering), and 2) a system for effective and efficient information retrieval within subsets of data base (relevance). In order to accomplish this partitioning, the 'kernel' technique of graph theory was applied. In addition, a method of quality filtering utilizing the 'epidemic' theory and the 'obsolescence' of scientific literature was developed.

  • This study investigated the intellectual structure of records management and archives field in Korea and America using author cocitation analysis. Major journals in the field from 2000 to 2004 are used to select frequent cited authors. Cocited authors are analyzed in details by means of multi-variate statistical techniques such as multidimensional scaling. To the analysis of this intellectual structure, main research topics in Korea were laws and policies related to records management and archives whereas information technology based electronic records management in America.

  • Author co-citation analysis with 20 authors from Korean Nutrition Literature were executed. The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of bibliographic phenomena in Korean literature by co-citation and to approach the intellectural structure of nutrition field in view of multidimensional space. The analysis assumes that the more two author are cited together, the closer the relationship between them. The raw data are co-citation counts from the Korean Journal of Nutrition over the period 1986~1987. The resulting map shows (1) identifiable author groups of nutrition, (2) locations of these groups with respect to each other, (3) the degree of centrality and peripherality of author within groups, (4) the relationship between domestic authors and foreign authors.
