  • Satirical cartoon features figure characters that liken to particular figures or social phenomenon to satirize particular figures or social phenomenon. Through the words and actions of figure characters in satirical carton, fraudulentact of man in power or irrational social phenomenon is revealed. The National Intelligence Service (NIS) female agent that is the figure character of this study has been appearing in satirical cartoon for a long time and it likens to social phenomenon instead of a actual figure. The reason why the NIS female agent has been appearing as a figure character in satirical cartoon for a long time is because related social phenomenon has not ended and is still in progress. In addition, the reason why it likens to social phenomenon instead of an actual figure is based on the fact that it is not easy to identify her face that has been hidden, which makes it difficult to exaggerate the characteristic of the figure. Her hidden face is also an expression of the desire to hide that is symbolized by baseball cap and muffler. Her hidden face and the desire to hide make it easy to substitute to other related figure or social phenomenon instead of actual figure. Namely, outward appearance of the NIS female agent has a good condition for combining 'added significance' in satirical cartoon. Irrelevant to actual NIS female agent, a satirical cartoon figure of NIS female agent is being combined with various meanings when needed and it is substituted as another figure, group or social phenomenon as the actual figure disappears. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to reveal the role of figure character in satirical cartoon by symbolically analyzing the figure character that appears in satirical cartoon as 'NIS female agent'. The followings were revealed through the symbolic analysis of figure character in satirical cartoon in this study. First, satirical cartoon satirizes social phenomenon. Figure character in satirical cartoon satirizes social phenomenon in place of actual figure. Fourth, satirical cartoon provides catharsis for enduring wound or stress received by individual due to irrational social phenomenon created by politics.

  • Everybody recognizes importance of characters in theater animation that directly influence audiences through narrative structure. However, it is very difficult to make one. This study is about this process that creates characters. This study derived what common points were involved in analysis data of major/supporting characters' formative characteristics in various studies related to animation characters. Then, based on the data, this study analyzed how major/supporting characters were transformed to animation characters in the scenes that were animated at the beginning and end of film that were released in 2007. Finally, this study investigated the process of character creation using portrait based on the analyzed data. Although this study tried to approach to character creation objectively using objective data rather than subjective judgment of the researcher, the researcher recognizes that subjective thoughts could not be completely excluded since it is done by man's hands. However, this author sincerely hopes that this research can be a great help in producing animation characters through understanding form factors of images that makes character for short film producers who suffered from slow work process due to difficulty in creating characters or authors who failed to complete satisfactory work as they could not find slight difference in character modification.

  • It seems like that the main stream of animation for theaters transferred from cells to 30 animations. It can be easily seen if current situation is compared to the time when al! works were Cell animations. Although earlier papers were mostly about studies on Cell animation works, future studies will publish papers related to 30. Accordingly, this study studied the association of the researcher's paper with 30 works while It had been applied to 20. Then, based on the data, this study analyzed how major/supporting characters were transformed to animation characters in the scenes that were animated at the beginning and end of film that were reieased in 2007. This result was compared with the character made using a voice actor in the Pixar's long piece of animation for theater that had been already screened. The data were made into values to some extent in an attempt to increase satisfaction in the result of analysis comparing the character with the voice actor. When making characters using actual persons, it is hoped that grasping the modeling factors of the images making 20/30 characters as indicated in this study will be helpful in producing animation characters.

  • This paper looks to extract personality traits from the drama characters within a drama script, and to apply it them to a character that has an artificial emotion. The method of applying the personality of a character from a drama script is as follows. First, we separate a drama script into several pieces, by the characters therin. Next, we extract emotion-related terms by matching morphemes analysis and by using an emotion terms database. Next, we analyze a dominant emotion using extracted emotion terms. Finally last, we apply the analyzed dominant emotion to an equation pertaining to artificial emotion. We made progress in developing user evaluation that features blind testing, to verify that the artificial emotion character bears the personality of a drama character. We apply three drama character personalities to artificial emotion characters bearing the same appearance. The user had to match three artificial emotion characters and drama characters according to personality. The users had a high percentage of correct answers, thus confirming the efficacy of our method of applying a personality, using information from a drama script.

  • The present thesis is a study about a character actor's characterization from the concept of 'star persona'. Conducted in 2020, this is a follow-up study about a personality actor's characterization. Lee Sung-min was selected due to his wide acting spectrum among domestic actors and his brilliant expression of differing characters as a character actor. The study discusses characterization methods for character actors on the basis of his role of high-ranking North Korean bureaucrat 'Ri Myung-un' in the film 'The Spy Gone North'. Stanislavski claimed that character building or characterization was the pinnacle of the acting art. However, such an expression of personality requires hard work and devotion from an actor. The actor Lee Sung-min practiced the North Korean dialect in order to act the role, and added the way the elite speak in North Korea to this dialect. He achieves a style of acting that raises tensions within the drama by spitting out lines in one breath and by making the audience fixate their gaze within character solo shots for which the character's emotions and lines serve as the core, with the purpose of maximizing dramatic tension and situational reality. Continuity and angle also serve extremely important roles in terms of expressing a character's personality development, affect, and emotions. The present thesis discussed the character development methods for a character actor's role of 'Ri Myung-un' in the film 'The Spy Gone North'.

  • This thesis is a study on the creation of characters of "personality actors and character actors" among the concepts of "star persona" of S. Prince. This study selected 7 representative films of Jung Woo-sung, a representative personality actor in the Korean film industry, and analyzed how 'Jung Woo-sung-character' is embodied in the film as a character component suggested by R. Dyer. In the traditional sense, the actor's acting has been highly valued for transformation and impersonation in character creation, but discussing the method of creating a character focusing only on the actor's acting in a movie acting implemented in combination with advanced technology I don't think it's suitable for movie acting research. Theorists such as R.Dyer and Edgar Morin, who studied film actors and stars, also emphasize that 'movie actors are different from theater actors' (by the film medium). Therefore, in this thesis, a detailed analysis of the acting of a personality actor was avoided. As Morin pointed out that the character in the movie can be implemented through the actor's image and type, not playing the type of role. I tried to propose the significance of this character creation method of the personality actor by analyzing actor Jung Woo-sung and his character.
