  • This study examines university students' awareness and preparedness for anticipated social problems of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and deteremines if there exist differences between gender, major fields of study and school years of students. Based on surveys with 122 university students in Seoul, students majoring in technology-engineering showed more positive outlook than students majoring in humanity-social science. Female students and humanity-social science students showed higher levels of concerns with social problems than male and technology-engineering students. More than three out of five students anticipated that they will experience the influence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution within the next five years. Two out of five students assessed their preparedness to be inadequate. Given the overarching social influence, it is necessary to develop convergent education of technology and social science that raises students' understanding and preparedness without differences in major fields of study and gender for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

  • This study aims to suggest a new evaluating system for academic books in the field of humanities and social sciences in Korea. The data comprised the evaluating systems for researchers' academic achievements at 27 Korean and overseas universities, and questionnaire from researchers. The findings showed that academic books were rated higher twice than articles in Korean universities with various criteria. Universities in the US had no standardized systems, but publishers evaluated academic books. The UK and France had authorized organizations, REF and HCERHE, to evaluate researchers' products, whereas, in Japan, departments evaluated them without fixed systems. About 84% of Korean researchers preferred external evaluation on academic books. It is proposed to establish associations' evaluation, 'more than 200 pages and ISBN', and qualitative approach. 200-600 points can be given on books in the correlation of universities, associations, and Korea Research Foundation.

  • It is common to quantify the concept of interest in the social and human sciences to test a research hypothesis. In such a case, it is strongly recommended to investigate if the procedure is appropriately designed and implemented according the research purpose since the quantification procedure highly affects the result of statistical analysis. In this work, we propose a visualization tool which enables us to check the construct validity of a measurement tool (such a questionnaire) in a concise and convenient way based on a penalized factor analysis model. We illustrate our method with numerical simulation and real data analysis.

  • I think constructivism can be considered as the new count proposal for understanding human to Cartesian rationalism. Constructivism has the common area not only with recent results of evolutionary biology, evolutionary psychology. brain science, system theory, and complex adaptive system but also with recent trends of humanities, and social science. In artificial intelligence, the studies which can be considered as constructivistic methods is going on. In this paper, from a constructivistic pint of view, to broaden the concept of intelligence in artificial intelligenve, I will examine constructivistic methodologies to intelligent machine and look about the artificial intelligence techniques which are constructivistic. Throughout such a discussion I want to promote the integral understanding of various kinds of mind theories and techniques, and pave the way of general intelligence in artificial intelligence.

  • The quality of a veterinary service depends on the veterinarian's physical and mental health. However, a veterinarian's mental health is generally considered to be more vulnerable than that of other health care professionals. As many veterinary students will enter the veterinary profession in near future, it is necessary to investigate their psychological status. This study examined stressors affecting student life in one veterinary school. Anxiety, depression, and stress levels were assessed using questionnaires and qualitative research techniques. The results obtained from questionnaires showed that the proportion of veterinary students with psychological distress was higher than expected. The major stressors experienced by the veterinary students were academic, economic, and environmental. Qualitative study using a photovoice method revealed that the students in this study felt relatively deprived compared with those in other veterinary schools. In addition, they were distressed by the school environment and limited human relationship. Our results suggest that veterinary school administrators should be aware of students' psychological distress and should undertake systematic improvement in their educational system by altering counseling programs, curricula, and school culture principles.
