  • This paper propose a circuit that can measure the inductance of an inductive sensor used in IOT applications. The circuit was constructed using the characteristics of an RL low-pass filter circuit, comparator, current control switch, and capacitor, and the inductance value within the range 1[nH] < L ≤ 1[H] can be derived through the duration time during the output voltage of the RL low-pass filter circuit is greater than the reference voltage.

  • We have development the steering angle sensor using not only detecting parts but also integrating technique with semiconductors for automobile applications. The performance design and analysis of the steering angle sensor for intelligent vehicles is complicated due to variety of parameters. In this study, the performance characteristics of the angle sensor were analyzed using test rig. By means of magnetic induction technique, these new the steering angle sensors showed excellent magnetic characteristics. The detection range of steering angle sensor obtained was ${\pm}800^{\circ}$, the maximum non-linearity is 0.744% Full Span and the temperature range was $-40^{\circ}C{\sim}+125^{\circ}C$. With this conclusive, the inductive angle sensor was quite satisfactory for many applications in intelligent vehicles.

  • Inductive sensors are versatile and economical devices that are widely used to measure a wide variety of physical variables, such as displacement, force, and pressure. In this paper, we propose a simple inductive sensor consisting of a thin partial ring and a coil set. The self-inductance of the sensor was estimated using magnetic circuit analysis and validated through finite element analysis (FEA). The natural frequency of the ring was estimated using Castigliano's theorem and the method of equivalent mass. The estimation was validated through experiments and FEA. A prototype sensor with a signal processing circuit is built and applied to noninvasively sense the pressure inside a flexible tube. The obtained sensor outputs show quadratic behavior with respect to the pressure. When fitted to a quadratic equation, the least-square measurement error was less than 2%. The results confirm the feasibility of pressure sensing using the proposed inductive sensor.

  • In this paper, several capacitive sensors for measuring the position of the piston in hydraulic cylinder was studied and designed. The inductive LVDT sensor has been widely used to measure the position of the piston because of its high accuracy, but this type of sensor is very expensive and has difficulty in use because of its complexity. To overcome these disadvantages, we studied the optimized non-contact capacitive sensors and designed several capacitive sensors for accurate measuring the location of piston in hydraulic cylinder. The proposed capacitive sensor has the possibility of practical use for hydraulic cylinder through experiments.

  • In this paper, a new structure to improve the resolution of an inductive torque sensor is proposed. The new coupling structure and the change of number of turns for the receiving coil increase the resolution of the torque sensor. Because this torque sensor has non-contact points, it has no abrasion at the contact point, and is very durable. Also, the torque sensor has less variation due to vibration or strain, and it has a good EMC(Electromagnetic Compatibility) and thermal characteristics.

  • One of the obstacles for a magnetic bearing to be used in the wide range of industrial applications is the failure modes associated with magnetic bearings, which we don't expect for conventional passive bearings. These failure modes include electric power outage, power amplifier faults, position sensor faults, and the malfunction of controllers. Fault-tolerant magnetic bearing systems have been proposed so that the system can operate in spite of some faults in the system. In this paper, we designed and implemented a fault-tolerant magnetic bearing system for a turbo-molecular vacuum pump. The system can cope with the actuator/amplifier faults as well as the faults in position sensors, which are the two major fault modes in a magnetic bearing system.

  • This study develops a time-varying system-based noncontact fabric sensor that can measure cerebral blood-flow signals to explore the possibility of brain blood-signal detection and emotional evaluation. The textile sensor was implemented as a coil-type sensor by combining 30 silver threads of 40 deniers and then embroidering it with the computer machine. For the cerebral blood-flow measurement experiment, subjects were asked to attach a coil-type sensor to the carotid artery area, wear an electrocardiogram (ECG) electrode and a respiration (RSP) measurement belt. In addition, Doppler ultrasonography was performed using an ultrasonic diagnostic device to measure the speed of blood flow. The subject was asked to wear Meta Quest 2, measure the blood-flow change signal when viewing the manipulated image visual stimulus, and fill out an emotional-evaluation questionnaire. The measurement results show that the textile-sensor-measured signal also changes with a change in the blood-flow rate signal measured using the Doppler ultrasonography. These findings verify that the cerebral blood-flow signal can be measured using a coil-type textile sensor. In addition, the HRV extracted from ECG and PLL signals (textile sensor signals) are calculated and compared for emotional evaluation. The comparison results show that for the change in the ratio because of the activation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems due to visual stimulation, the values calculated using the textile sensor and ECG signals tend to be similar. In conclusion, a the proposed time-varying system-based coil-type textile sensor can be used to study changes in the cerebral blood flow and monitor emotions.

  • In this paper, we present, an indstrial RFID layered microstrip patch antenna is designed using an inset feed method in order to improve recognition rates in a long distance as tags are attached to metal object by improving a problem of feeding power in fabricating metal tags and reducing effects of metallic object. The inset feed shows a distinctive characteristic that has no separation between emitters and feed lines differing from a structure with the conventional inductive coupling feed. This structure makes possible to produce a type that presents a low antenna height and enables impedance coupling for tag chips. Although it shows a difficulty in the impedance coupling due to increases in the parasite capacitance between a ground plane and an emitter in an antenna according to decreases in the height of a tag antenna, it may become a merit in designing the tag antenna because the antenna impedance can be determined as an inductive manner if a shorted structure is used for feeding power. Therefore, in this paper the microstrip patch antenna is designed as a modified type and applies the inset feed in order to reduce effects of metallic objects where the antenna is be attached. Also, the antenna uses a multi-layer structure that includes a metal plate between radiator and ground instead of using a single layer.
