Comparing Initiating and Responding Joint Attention as a Social Learning Mechanism: A Study Using Human-Avatar Head/Hand Interaction (사회 학습 기제로서 IJA와 RJA의 비교: 인간-아바타 머리/손 상호작용을 이용한 연구)

  • Joint Attention (JA) has been known to play a key role in human social learning. However, relative impact of different interaction types has yet to be rigorously examined because of limitation of existing methodologies to simulate human-to-human interaction. In the present study, we designed a new JA paradigm with emulating human-avatar interaction and virtual reality technologies, and tested the paradigm in two experiments with healthy adults. Our results indicated that initiating JA (IJA) condition was more effective than responding JA (RJA) condition for social learning in both head and hand interactions. Moreover, the hand interaction involved better information processing than the head interaction. The implication of the results, the validity of the new paradigm, and limitations of this study were discussed.

  • 인공 신경망은 체계적인 알고리즘으로 풀기 어려운 문제들을 해결하는데 사용되어오고 있다. 이는 인간의 뇌세포가 외부자극에 대해 반응하는 과정을 컴퓨터 시스템 상에서 구현한 것으로 새 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용을 연구하는데 흥미로운 접근방식이다. 본 논문에서는 신경망의 접근방법을 이용하여 인간행위 인식시스템을 구현하였다. 신경망을 이용해 구현된 컴퓨터 인식 시스템이 인간의 두 가지 정서 하에서 일어난 세가지 서로 다른 행동을 보고 행위자의 성별이나 강정상태를 얼마나 인식해낼 수 있는지 실험해 보았다. 특히, 성별 인식 실험에서는 신호탐지 이론에서 사용하는 인장도(discriminability)를 이용해 사람에 대한 이 시스템의 효율도를 계산하였다

Laser pointer detection using neural network for human computer interaction (인간-컴퓨터 상호작용을 위한 신경망 알고리즘기반 레이저포인터 검출)

  • In this paper, an effective method to detect the laser pointer on the screen using the neural network algorithm for implementing the human-computer interaction system. The proposed neural network algorithm is used to train the patches without a laser pointer from the input camera images, the trained neural network then generates output values for an input patch from a camera image. If a small variation is perceived in the input camera image, amplify the small variations and detect the laser pointer spot in the camera image. The proposed system consists of a laser pointer, low-price web-camera and image processing program and has a detection capability of laser spot even if the background of computer monitor has a similar color with the laser pointer spot. Therefore, the proposed technique will be contributed to improve the performance of human-computer interaction system.

Flow Experiences in Goal-Directed and Experiential Activities (목표지향적 행위와 경험지향적 행위 시의 플로우(Flow) 경험에 대한 연구)

  • The focus of this study was to investigate whether flow occurs during both goal-directed and experiential activities, if experiential and foal-directed flow states differ in terms of various measures and dimensions. Fifty male and eighteen female subjects were participated in controlled, comparative experiment between goal-directed and experiential activities in problem-solving tasks. The findings indicate that subjects experience more curiosity and involvement(focus) in problem solving tasks with experiential activities. However, the results showed subjects experience more enjoyment in tasks with goal-directed activities. Findings of this study suggested that more sophisticated and quantitative measures in various dimensions should be constructed and verified in order to apply flow theory to human-computer interaction.

  • The human computer interaction has gone through diverse changes along with the technical progress of computers. With the spread of the world wide web, attempts of various forms and methods of interactions reflecting the characteristics of the web are being made. Among the diverse concepts of interaction, Conversational Agent uses a character as the visual perceptional object and through the interaction based on conversation it suggests a natural, human, intuitive interaction. In this study, Conversational Agent was suggested and applied on a cyber lecture website and the appropriateness was verified. The fundamental structure and method needed in constructing a conversation was examined through the study on conversation. After that the characteristics of the conversation used on the web was identified and hereby and the coherence and conversation structure was deducted. After the characteristics of the conversational agent were observed, it was applied to the previously deducted web sites logical connection and conversation structure. Lastly, the conversational agent suitable for the web site was proposed and realized.

  • 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용에서 사용성 (usability)은 사용 의도 (usage intention)를 결정짓는 중요한 요소로 주목을 받아 왔다. 하지만 최근에는 사용 의도 (usage intention)를 결정짓는 새로운 요소로서 재미 (fun to use)가 주목을 받고 있으며, 'Funology'라는 새로운 개념도 제시되었다. 재미에 대한 다양한 연구가 진행되고 있지만, 기존 연구들은 재미가 무엇인지는 여전히 명확히 정의하지 못하고 다른 감정들과 차이점을 살펴보거나 재미를 유발하는 몇몇 요소들을 제시하는데 그치고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에는 재미란 무엇인지 정의를 내리고, 사용자들이 재미를 느끼는 요소들에 대해서 살펴보고자 한다.

  • For many years, the approach taken towards HCI(Human Computer Interaction) has focused on the usability of system and technology. Advances in computing and information technology has shifted the way people use and experience technology from merely using it to enjoying using it. But, there is a lack of theories to conceptualize fun and user fun experience, in the HCI. This paper describes an conceptual approach to "fun" and user's 'fun experience' in the interaction of technology. This paper defines "fun" as positive psychological energy which is produced by playing computer. And this paper provides characteristics of 'Fun experience', which are action mode, random order, free, and activated pleasant. This study provides insights into factors contributing to and influencing fun experiences and the relationships between them; symbol, newness, and vividness.

  • 외부환경을 인식하고 상황을 판단해 자율적으로 행동하는 지능형 서비스 로봇은 앞으로 새로운 시장을 열어줄 것으로 기대되며 이와 관련된 연구와 개발이 빠르게 확대되고 있다. 이러한 서비스 로봇에게 가장 중요한 기능은 인간과의 원활한 상호작용이다. 여기서 말하는 상호작용이란 단순히 인간이 원하는 것을 명령하고, 로봇이 이 명령을 수행하는 것에 그치는 것이 아니라, 로봇이 스스로 인간의 감정을 파악하고, 이에 대한 적절한 로봇 자신의 감정 표출이나 서비스, 행동을 제공함으로써 직접적인 소통이 이루어지는 것을 의미한다. 이렇게 로봇이 자연스럽게 인간과 함께 공존하기 위해서 감성 로봇(Emotional Robot) 분야에서 관련된 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다 본 논문에서는 국내의 감성 로봇의 연구 현황과 발전 방향에 대해 서술한다.

Efficient Emotional Relaxation Framework with Anisotropic Features Based Dijkstra Algorithm

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient emotional relaxation framework using Dijkstra algorithm based on anisotropic features. Emotional relaxation is as important as emotional analysis. This is a framework that can automatically alleviate the person's depression or loneliness. This is very important for HCI (Human-Computer Interaction). In this paper, 1) Emotion value changing from facial expression is calculated using Microsoft's Emotion API, 2) Using these differences in emotion values, we recognize abnormal feelings such as depression or loneliness. 3) Finally, emotional mesh based matching process considering the emotional histogram and anisotropic characteristics is proposed, which suggests emotional relaxation to the user. In this paper, we propose a system which can recognize the change of emotion easily by using face image and train personal emotion by emotion relaxation.
