  • The Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS), classifies and summarizes 1,062 cases that were found when searching [An Investigation on Multicultural Families in Korea] on the website. These years are 2009, 2012, and 2015. The suggestion of this study is as follows. First, it is a comparison between the migrant group and the permanent resident group of 'children' in the research data. Identifying the relative position of a married migrant family to a permanent resident can provide a very important clue. Also, for other date, comparison of the settled and migrant groups is as important as the 'children'. Second, in the 'medical care' category, we need to add more depth than the surface content. For example, the inclusion of details about cancer diagnosis will determine the incidence of marriage migrants. Such efforts can provide more practical assistance to married migrant families. KOSIS is a very useful site that provides useful site that provides us with a lot of information. In the future, they should be able to use migrant group information more efficiently and be more helpful to them. This is the beginning of a sustainable society.

  • This research sought to study viewers' perception of migrant women who wed Korean men following these women's level of specialty as shown on multi-cultural TV program by focusing on university students. Post test control group design method was utilized to conduct analysis, which demonstrates that there was a significant difference between the viewers on the professional migrant women and on the non-professional migrant women when it comes to the categories such as, 'Migrant women have specialized skills', 'migrant women have outstanding communication skills' and 'migrant women are independent minded.' Because of the existence (or non-existence) of professional careers as shown on TV program can affect viewers' perception of migrant women, it is necessary to develop measures such as development of expert group's advising system and to guarantee migrant women's diversity.

  • The goal of this paper is to analyze Korean migration to the Russian Far East(RFE) from the perspective of transnationalism. The analysis suggests that the Korean migrants could have constructed their transnational identities using the following practices: religious ritual, language uses, collective remittances, ethnic businesses, immigrant newspapers, and immigrant associations. In particular, the Korean migrants could have retained transnational interconnection between the places of origin and destination even without the process of globalization, which is regarded as an inevitable incentive to transnationalism in the literature. The Korean case indicates that the contextual changes in the sending and receiving countries, for instance, the establishment of a Japanese protectorate over Korea and the Russian Revolution, significantly facilitated the formation of transnational relationships among the Korean immigrants.

  • The diversity of urban landscapes is established by dynamic characteristics such as language, color, and their movement, which are the building environment, street patterns, and people. With the increase of foreign migrants in Korea, new guidelines are needed in terms of local community administration and land policy. Administrative, sociological, and geographical studies have been conducted on the steadily increasing number of foreign migrants since the 2000s, but it is difficult to establish for making safe and healthy communities through which different cultures and lifestyles of each country and ethnic group undergo some integration with the existing host society. There are limitations in identifying the lack of statistical data and the representation of a minority proportion of foreign residents. In order to analyze the core elements of the integrated strategy of the local community, the residential behavior and spatial characteristics of foreign migrants must first be identified.

  • This article aims to reveal the ways in which a "space of difference" is produced and interpret the space as a heterotopic space, drawing the case of Filipino elderly care-givers in Israel. The in-betweens and temporariness of the migrants'experiences in the Israeli society lead to the creation of a heterotopic space. Paying attention to their particular life rhythm as live-in care-givers, namely weekdays-workplace and weekend-flat, this article explores how the migrant care-givers build their own society through a variety of spatial practices and multiple social relations based on the flat. In making the flat a perfect form of a lifestyle for their own, the migrants inscribe their presence in the flat in unique ways for different purposes, in a way different to that which surrounds it. However, the structure of flat not only signifies the migrants' marginality but also reflects the challenging position. The flat has functions in relation to all other space that remains, even if such connection often creates effects of contrast and difference. In this light, the flat is not merely an alienated and circumscibed exotic migrant enclave but a heterotopic space which is dynamically constructed in relation to other sites in the wider societal order.

  • This study aims to analyze the determinants of residential location choice for the inter-urban migrants in the Seoul metropolitan area. In doing so, we have built a discrete choice model, using household sample data from the 2010 Korea Population and Housing Census. We classified households, which made a intra-urban movement during the last five years, into four groups: 1) movers from Seoul (central city) to Gyunggi-Incheon (suburban), 2) movers from Gyunggi-Incheon to Seoul, 3) Intra-Seoul movers, and 4) intra-Gyunggi-Incheon movers. The analysis findings can be summarized as follows. First, significant differences in the determinants of residential location choice were found among different types of movers. Second, movers from Gyunggi- Incheon to Seoul were likely to choose small housings with fewer rooms, indicating that their housing choices were forced rather than voluntary due to high housing prices in Seoul. Third, all types of movers have a high preference for the neighborhood with a good accessibility by public transit including subway. Lastly, neighborhood amenity was also an important attracting factors for the intra-urban migrants in Seoul.
