Ultrasound-Guided Femorosciatic Nerve Block (초음파 유도 대퇴좌골 신경 차단술)

  • Since the extent of use of musculoskeletal ultrasound in orthopaedic surgery is expanding, popliteal block(sciatic nerve block) and femoral nerve block(saphenous nerve block) are easily and safely performed without complications such as nerve injury or incomplete block. Also, due to the expanding use of ultrasound, orthopaedic surgery of not only foot but also ankle and lower leg could be done without general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. We describe a detailed technique for ultrasound-guided femorosciatic nerve block based on the experience over 120 cases.

LDPC Decoder Architecture for High-speed UWB System (고속 UWB 시스템의 LDPC 디코더 구조 설계)

  • MB-OFDM UWB system will adopt LDPC codes to enhance the decoding performance with higher data rates. In this paper, we will consider algorithm and architecture of the LDPC codes in MB-OFDM UWB system. To suggest the hardware efficient LDPC decoder architecture, LLR(log-likelihood-ration) calculation algorithms and check node update algorithms are analyzed. And we proposed the architecture of LDPC decoder for the high throughput application of Wimedia UWB. We estimated the feasibility of the proposed architecture by implementation in a FPGA. The implementation results show our architecture attains higher throughput than other result of QC-LDPC case. Using this architecture, we can implement LDPC decoder for high throughput transmission, but it is 0.2dB inferior to the BP algorithm.

Improvement of Migraine by Cervical Epidural Block -A case report- (경부 경막외 블록에 의한 편두통의 완화 경험 -증례 보고-)

  • Migraine is a disabling headache that can occur with or without aura. We present here a case of migraine that was effectively managed by a series of cervical epidural blocks. A 41-year-old woman who had suffered from severe headache on her left temporal area for 12 years visited our pain clinic. Her 11-point numeric pain rating scale was 10 out of 10 at the first visit and the symptoms were associated with homonymous visual disturbances, paresthesia on the left face, shoulder and arm, and general weakness. For the first 5 years after the headaches began, her headache was relatively well controlled by acetaminophen; after then, the acetaminophen wasn't effective. After wandering from this hospital to the next one in search of relief, she managed to visit our pain clinic. We tried several blocks including cervical epidural block, and she was continuously medicated with sumatriptan. Her headache was gradually relieved. Now, her 11-point numeric rating scale is 1-2 out of 10 at the most during her headache attacks.

Design and Implementation of Document Management System using Near Field Communication (비접촉 근거리 무선통신을 이용한 문서관리 시스템의 설계 및 구현)

  • In spite of the convenience and cost-effectiveness of an electronic document management system the paper-type documents still should be stored for a comparison against the original documents. In this paper, for the efficient management of paper documents, we designed and implemented a document management system using smart devices equipped with NFC(Near Field Communication) technology. To implement the proposed system we designed a database for document management and developed an Android application for smart device using Eclipse 3.0 and Java programming. Whenever we touch the smart phone on the NFC tags which are attached to the paper-type documents and document boxes, it is possible to registering, searching and carrying in and out services for documents and boxes. This study provides smart phone users with systematic, economical and convenient paper-type documents management functions, and thus enhances the business efficiency.

ETSI BRAN(Broadband Radio Access Network)의 무선 ATM 및 광대역 무선 액세스 네트워크 표준화 및 기술동향

  • ETSI BRAN (Broadband Radio Access Network)는 고속 무선 LAN 또는 고정 광대역 무선액세스 네트워크에서의 무선 접촉 계층과 ATM 및 IP(Internet Protocol) 코어 네트워크와의 연동을 위한 일부 기능을 표준화하기 위한 과제이다. 특히, BRAN의 HIPERLAN type-2(HIPERLAN/2)의 경우에는 과제의 범위는 무선 접속면, 무선 부시스템에서의 서비스 인터페이스, 서비스 구현에서 요구되는 연동 및 각종 지원 기능을 표준화하며, 무선 접속면의 경우에는 다수 벤더간의 상호 호환성을 제공할 수 있는 인터페이스를 구현하는 것이다. HIPERLAN/2의 기술 규격은 코어 네트워크와 독립적인 물리계층 및 데이터 링크 제어 (DATA Link Control: DLC) 계층과 서로 상이한 코어 네트워크와의 연동을 위한 네트워크 수렴 부계층을 다루게 될 것이며, 초기 단계에서는 ATM과 IP 코어 네트워크와의 연동 기능을 제시하게 될 것이다. 따라서 HIPERLAN/2기반의 시스템 규격을 제시하기 위해서는 네트워크 계층 및 기타 상위 계층에 대한 규격이 요규되며, 이는 ATM Forum에서의 무선 ATM 신호 방식 규격, IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)의 IP규격, 그리고 ETSI의 SMG (Special Mobile Group) 프로젝트에서 표준화되고 있는 UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service) 규격 등과 접목될 것이다. 결과적으로 무선 ATM 관점에서는 완전한 시스템 규격 작성은 ETSI BRAN과 ATM Forum에서 무선 접속 규격과 이동성 관리 및 신호 방식으로 각각 이원화되어 진행되고 있다. 현재 물리 계층에서의 전송 방식은 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)으로 확정되었으며, DLC 계층에서는 고정 길이의 TDD (Time Division Duplexing) TDMA 프레임 구조를 기반으로 AP (Access Point)에 의해 동적으로 상향 링크 자원을 예약 할당하는 매체 접근 제어 (Medium Access Control: MAC) 프로토콜이 고려되고 있다. 이와 같은 DLC 계층에서는 기본적으로 짧은 길이의 패킷을 통해 다양한 대역폭의 멀티미디어 트래픽을 효율적으로 수용하면서 ATM 네트워크뿐만 아니라 향후 IP 네트워크에서 요구하는 각 서비스별 QoS (Quality of Service)를 개별적으로 보장할 수 있는 기능을 구현하고자 한다. 향후 이 부문에 대한 표준화가 본격적으로 진행될 것으로 예상되며 HIPERLAN/2의 경우에는 1999년 중반까지 1차 기능 규격을 완료할 예정이며, BRAN 전반에 대한 완전한 규격을 2002년까지 완성하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

Application of $CF_{4}$ plasma etching to $Ta_{0.5}Al_{0.5}$ alloy thin film ($CF_{4}$ 기체를 이용한 $Ta_{0.5}Al_{0.5}$ 합금 박막의 플라즈마 식각)

  • Application of reactive ion etching (RIE) technique to Ta-Al alloy thin film with a thickness of $1000{\AA}$ was studied. $CF_{4}$ gas could be used effectively to etch the Ta-Al alloy thin film. The etching rate in the thin film with Ta content of 50 mol% was about $67{\AA}/min$. NO selectivity between the Ta-Al alloy film and $SiO_{2}$ film was observed during the etching using the $CF_{4}$ gas. The etching rate of the $SiO_{2}$ layer was 12 times faster than that of the Ta-Al alloy thin film. It was also observed that photoresist of AZ5214 was more useful than Shiepley 1400-27 in RIE with the $CF_{4}$ gas.

  • Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis(IHPS) is common in full-term babies, and relatively rare in prematures. The diagnosis of IHPS in premature infants may be obscured because of the lack of classic symptoms and signs and the absence of the standard criteria for ultrasonic diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to discover the clinical differences between premature and full-term infants with pyloric stenosis, and determine the appropriate diagnostic methods for early diagnosis in premature infants. The clinical records of 52 IHPS patients who had been operated upon from October, 1994 to April, 1997 were reviewed. The incidence of IHPS in premature infants was 25 %. The onset of symptom was 4.7 weeks of age in premature, and 2.9 weeks in full-term babies. Diagnosis was established by typical symptoms. signs. and diagnostic imaging studies. In two premature infants, diagnosis was confirmed by upper gastrointestinal(GI) series, because ultrasonography did not meet the diagnostic criteria. Two premature infants initially diagnosed as gastroesophageal reflux by esophagography. were found to have IHPS by upper GI series. For the diagnosis of IHPS, a new set of criteria for premature babies has to be developed.

Analysis of fatigue crack growth behavior in composite-repaired aluminum place (복합재 패치 보강 평판의 균열선단 진전거동 해석)

  • An analytical study was conducted to characterize the fatigue crack growth behavior of pre-cracked aluminum plates repaired with asymmetric bonded composite patch. For single-sided repairs, due to the asymmetry and the presence of out-of$.$plane bending, crack front shape would become skewed curvilinear started from a uniform through-crack profile, as observed from Previous studies. Therefore, for the accurate investigation of fatigue behavior, it is necessary to predict the actual crack front evolution and take it into consideration in the analysis. In this study, the fatigue analysis of single-sided repairs considering crack front shape development was conducted by implementing three-dimensional successive finite element method coupled with linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) concept, which enables the growing crack front to be directly traced and modeled in a step by step way. Through conducting present analysis technique, crack path of the patched plate as well as the fatigue life was evaluated with sufficient accuracy. The analytical predictions of both the crack front shape evolution and the fatigue life were in good agreement with the experimental observations.

Finite Element Analysis of Sloshing Eigen Behavior in Horizontal Baffled Fuel Tank (수평으로 놓인 배플형 연료탱크의 슬로싱 고유거동에 관한 유한요소 해석)

  • This paper deals with the FE analysis for the free vibration of sloshing in horizontal cylindrical tank with baffles. We use Laplace equation based on potential theory as governing equation. This problem is solved by FEM using lineal isoparametric elements. We assume that the tank as well as baffles is rigid body and by separating nodes into two at the baffle location, baffle effect is obtained by separating nodes into two at the baffle location. For the calculation of natural frequencies and mode shapes, we introduce Lanczos transformation and Jacobi iteration methods. Numerical results of the first longitudinal and transverse modes, while comparing with literature cited, are very good. In order for the baffle effects on the free vibration of sloshing, various combinations of baffle parameters, which are location, inner diameter and number, are examined.

Analysis of Sloshing Frequency Response in Rectangular Fuel-Storage Tank (사각형 연료탱크 내 슬로싱 주파수 응답 해석)

  • This paper deals with the analytic and FEM analyses of sloshing frequency response of incompressible, invicid and irrotational flow in two dimensional rectangular tank. We use Laplace equation based on potential theory as governing equation. For small amplitude sloshing motion, the linearized free surface condition was applied and the analytic solution as obtained by the separation of variables. To simulate the effect of the energy dissipation due to viscous damping, artificial viscous coefficient is introduced and the divergence of response at resonance frequencies may be avoided by this coefficient. This problem was solved by FEM using 9-node elements in order to predict the maximum amplitude of sloshing response. Numerical results of free surface height, fluid pressure and fluid force show good agreement with those by analytic solution. After verifying the test FEM program, we analyze the frequency response characteristics of sloshing to the fluid height.
