  • Today, as we are going into digital information environment along with the development of information technology, there are changes in the style of information users. In particular. with the help of computer users can more easily access the original texts and approach to information providers than ever. At the same time, we are trying to use more efficiently some specialized contents in the web-pages. Contrary to traditional mediation-centered collection management, we start realizing that we are expected to bind selected contents with users who search these ones. In this study, I examined problems on collection management and proposed a more advanced content management skill as a solution for those problems. According to on-site questionnaires, The Main factors of user-centered content management are user factors, intermediary factors, and service ones.

  • This study explored the concept of context-aware computing and its application to the library and information services. Context-aware computing represents mobile computing techniques which gather, analyze user's contextual information and provide appropriate information services for the specific user. The idea was proposed in the late 90's but it was not widely available to the public because of the technology limitation. Recent technology development made context-aware computing possible to apply to our everyday-life information seeking using smart phone and showed the usefulness of its application. This study introduced the concept of context-aware computing with some examples of it, and finally tried to propose some of its applications to the library and information services.

  • Using user satisfaction surveys and LibQUAL+ instruments, libraries are increasingly gathering qualitative data such as verbatim user comments as well as quantitative data. Such qualitative data can be utilized as clues in establishing library service strategies: to better understand user issues, to identify areas for service improvement, and to prioritize user needs. For this, it is necessary to analyze user comments data and to apply results to the delivery of service and the library policies. This study is an attempt to investigate ways in which user comments data can be made useful in libraries. It identifies different methods of analyzing user comments data from LibQUAL+ surveys and compares qualitative data analysis software programs and taxonomies. It also presents the results of applying these tools to a subset of actual user comments data gathered from a recent LibQUAL+ survey at a major university library in Korea.

For this, this study fixed comparative criteria on national quality regulation schemes, and compared the quality regulation schemes of 4 countries such as England, United States, Singapore and Japan. By reviewing prior relevant studies, three criteria could be suggested.: the level of user centeredness, the effectiveness of regulatory enforcement and stability of operation system. All analysed nations share similarities in that they all eager to provide quality information to their service users and develop nationally acceptable quality standards of social services. On the contrary, differences are identified in the level of regulatory enforcement and establishment of independent body for national quality control. By these results, this study discussed the meaning of these findings and their implications on the development of Korean quality regulation system.

  • According to alternation of Digital Information Environment. users require more complicated and variable services. This study refined theoretically definition, concept, and materiality of Information Commons which is introduced and diffused throughout U.S. Universities' libraries. Information Commons is not simple facilities and spaces of library, but it is a united service model that is designed to fulfill variable information requirements of users with offering cooperative services, coalition of human resources, physical spaces, and facilities of redefinitions. In order to successful introduction and construction of Information Commons, it should be preceded that approaching digital information resources, offering continual services, and integration of resources that focus on the users.
