A Study on the User Satisfaction of Public Library Users in Korea (우리나라 공공도서관의 이용자만족도에 관한 연구: 2010 공공도서관 운영 평가 이용자만족도 조사 결과를 중심으로)

  • This study examines user satisfaction in public libraries nationwide. It analyzes service quality factors that affect user satisfaction of public library patrons and identify sub-factors of service quality that affect the overall user satisfaction. User satisfaction factors were developed to measure library satisfaction in all aspects of the library service. Six variables were identified, including volume of books, staff, programs, facilities, online services, and information availability. According to survey findings, general library satisfaction was strongly correlated with information availability, facilities, and staff. Relatively lower levels of satisfaction were identified in the areas of online services and programs. All six service quality factors were statistically significantly associated with user satisfaction, where information availability, facilities, and volume of books showed stronger associations than the other three factors.

  • UNESCO clearly has a good user interface compared to other sites. However, it does not have a structure in which user-centric knowledge curating is employed by users. As such, the knowledge structure should be expressed differently in advance for users to enjoy such benefits. At present, almost all current information systems are lacking with semantic and contextual information. Moreover, these systems are deemed insufficient of interlinking various kinds of thoughts in our minds. Thus, it is necessary to model in advance what users are likely to think and provide an interface that they can easily utilize based on that modeling. Furthermore, there is a need for a new structural theory based on semantic technology that can make that possible. Therefore, in this proposal, theoretical and practical insights were presented for user interface implementation to which relational facet navigation based on the structural theory is applied. Moreover, this proposal intends to suggest a "thinking expansion platform" that allows users' ideation of different concepts, including those unfamiliar to them.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide suggestions for the effective management and user services of electronic journals in university libraries. In order to do that literature reviews, case studies, and survey questionnaires were conducted. The case studies involved six university libraries, which were analyzed based on accessing, cataloging and user services. Questionnaires consisting of forty-seven items in eight parts, including selection and subscription of electronic journals were distributed to the libratians who were in charge of managing electronic journals. Following an analysis on the survey, guidelines for effective management and user services of electronic journals were suggested.

  • The most significant part of this study is in developing an experimental medel of user-friendly PDL. This study proposes both theoretical (conceptual) and physical (operational) models. The theoretical model includes the analysis on various factors and the realtionsips among factors which have a serious impacts on the design, building, and managing of PDL. And the physical model shows the shows the detailed structure and process which could be useful for both PDL designers and managers. Also provided is the images of major user interfaces, of which a PDL would be developed on the basis of the proposed medel in near future.

  • 인터넷의 확산과 더불어 웹상에는 수 많은 정보들이 존재하게 되었고 이에 따라 웹 학술정보자원의 수도 급격하게 증가하게 되었다. 하지만 방대한 양의 정보자원 속에서 원하는 정보를 신속하고 정확하게 찾아내는 것이 점점 더 어려워져 체계적인 웹 학술정보자원 메타데이터 구축에 관한 이용자의 요구 역시 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 현재 웹 학술정보자원을 선별하여 제공하고 있는 IFL (Internet Faculty Library, http://www.ifl.or.kr)을 통해 웹 학술정보자원 메타데이터에 대한 이용자 만족도를 알아보고 이를 통해 더 나은 서비스와 관리를 위해 고려되어야 할 문제점들을 고찰하였다.

  • Seat reservations and civil complaints in the library reading room have been done face-to-face by managers, and efficient management has been difficult. In addition, there is a problem that it is difficult to take action in the event of a civil complaint due to user inconvenience, such as a noise problem between users in the reading room. In this study, an online reservation system was developed for efficient management of seats in the library reading room so that it could be serviced non-face-to-face. In addition, when using the library reading room, it is possible to apply for non-face-to-face civil complaints when complaints occur due to noise problems between users, loss of belongings, and snoring during the user's sleep. Managers can smoothly manage library reading rooms through non-face-to-face inconvenience reports. It is possible to increase the satisfaction of using the library by resolving the inconvenience of users. The developed service app allows seat reservations and anonymous inconvenience reports. The administrator can check the received inconvenience report and warn the user of the seat with an IoT sensor-based LED. When corrective action is completed, the result of the action may be fed back to the reporter.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate service item to develop archived VDS(Vehicle Detecting System) data user services. Through the review of related studies and literature and investigation of the current application status of the vehicle detector data, the service item from the historical detector data were identified. The relative importance of the identified service item was measured based on the application purpose, usage and frequency of application.

  • To search based on the functional classification or provenance is not easy for users, and the key word-based information retrieval presents only simple words matching with the title of the records. The Presidential Archive of Korea developed a subject classification scheme to improve the convenience of searching for various records and came up with a subject thesaurus based on the scheme that utilizes the terms appearing on the title of the records and the terms used by the users who searched the portal or requested information disclosure. This research presents the development process of subject thesaurus. It also presents the utilization methods for records management work and services.

  • With SDI service provided in libraries and information centers traditionally, this paper studies component technologies and structure of system platform in PIS(personalization information service based on the customized information service served currently in some institutions. The PIS system should provide relevant information as an output through the learning system analyzing user information searching behavior as an input value with personal profile information. To do it, this paper studies requirements and algorithms to develop PIS, and proposes learning system and recommendation system as core components in PIS.

  • Recently, leaks of the personal information of Internet users have been occurring too frequently. Generally, Internet users have email accounts. The use of email as a communications tool in the private and public sectors has increased. Therefore, in email usage, password management to ensure a more secure email service is most important. In this study, we conducted an online survey of email users and analyzed their responses by using structural equation modeling software to find the psychological and behavioral characteristics of their password management. The results of this study provide useful suggestions on information security strategies related to email password management at both the enterprise and individual levels.
