A Strategy of a Gap Block Design in the CFRP Double Roller to Minimize Defects during the Product Conveyance (제품 이송 시 결함 최소화를 위한 CFRP 이중 롤러의 Gap block 설계 전략)

  • Due to the structural characteristic of a double roller, the double roller can have various deformation behaviors depending on a gap block design, even if dimensions and loading conditions for the double roller are the same. Based on this feature, we propose a strategy for designing the gap block of the carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) double roller to minimize defects (e.g., sagging and wrinkling), which can be raised during the product conveying process, with the pursue of the lightweight design. In the suggested strategy, analysis cases are first selected by considering main design parameters and engineering tolerances of the gap block, and then deformation behaviors of these selected cases are extracted using the finite element method (FEM). Here, to obtain the optimal gap block parameters that satisfy the purpose of this study, deformation deviations in the contact area are calculated and compared using the extracted deformation behaviors. Note that the contact area in this work is located between the product and the roller. As a result, through the design method of the gap block proposed in this work, it is possible to construct the CFRP double roller that can significantly decrease the defects without changing the overall sizes of the roller. A detailed method is suggested herein, and the results are evaluated in a numerical way.

Development of Tapered Rolling Type Strip Pressure Key for the Prevention of Scratch (스크래치 방지를 위한 테이퍼 롤링형 판재 누름키의 개발)

  • In this study, we developed new tapered rolling type strip pressure key for the prevention of scratch in sheet metal forming line. The developed pressure key is equipped with two tapered rollers inside a conventional block pressure key. Through the scratch test, for the case of transversal movement the tapered rolling type pressure key reduces both friction and depth of scratch by the effect of tapered shape which decreases the pressure spike on edge, and for longitudinal movement the scratch on the sheet metal surface is certainly removed by the rolling contact.

  • The self-driving roller conveyor system, which transports target products by controlling multiple rollers with a motor, is a logistics system suitable for branching and joining logistics and controlling the alignment of target products, and its utilization is increasing, especially in the food manufacturing process. In this paper, we build a simulation environment using Unity software based on 3D graphic modeling of a self-driving roller conveyor system. In a situation where target products are supplied irregularly in terms of time, a method is proposed that can align products to maintain constant spacing by controlling the rollers. Simulation results show that effective alignment of products is possible by controlling the motor that drives the roller based on sensor data of the product position.

Design of roller path for spinning of cylindrical cups of aluminum sheet metal (알루미늄 원통컵 스피닝 작업을 위한 롤러이송경로 설계)

  • Spinning is a chipless forming method for producing axially symmetric parts by using axial-radial motions of a spinning roller. This process has still some advantages in such a view point that a variety of complex shapes which can not be formed in a press can be easily spun at a low cost although it is one of the oldest forming methods for spinning mainly cookware parts for a long time. This study is to investigate the optimum roller path in order to obtain the maximum spinnability in producing cylindrical cups of Aluminum(A1050-H16) sheet metal. Working conditions applicable to any size of blank were predetermined through preliminary spinning tests. 9 types of roller path were proposed and experiments were carried out. The modified involute curve was shown to give the maximum drawing ration and more uniform quality of spun cups as compared with other results of this study. in addition thickness distribution and dimensional accuracy of spun cups were examined and discussed.

  • The media transport in automatic office machines such as printers, ATMs, copying machines is achieved by a complicated belt system. The system generally uses a crowning roller and belt which has been well-known for its intrinsic belt centering advantage during its operation. Since the modern office machines require precise high operating speed, stabilization of media transporting system has been one of the important issues of the machine design. Even a minor defect of the belt or the roller in the transport system directly affects its operating stability. This paper delivers a simulation technique that combines a multi-body dynamics analysis routine and a FEM based flexible continuum modeling for the efficient simulation of the flexible media transport problems.

  • 본 연구는 제지회사나 섬유회사 또는 인쇄업소등에서 각 제품의 원자재인 롤 형태의 종이, 원단 및 코팅지등의 필름이 롤러를 통해 고속으로 가공기계에 공급되어 감거나 풀 때 이동 중인 필름이 일정한 위치에서 벗어날 경우 초음파 센서가 이를 감지하여 필름을 이송하는 모터를 동작하여 롤러의 축선방향을 조정함으로써 필름이 항상 일정한 위치로 가공기계에 공급 될 수 있도록 구성된 시스템의 개발에 관한 내용이다.

Development of Teflon Coating Equipment Used in Medical Treatment (의료용 가이드 와이어의 테프론 코팅 장치 개발)

  • This paper proposes a method of designing the main parameters of the Teflon coating equipment of a guide wire used in medical treatment. The proposed device was designed to be guided by a reel-to-reel method in which the guide wire performs all processes continuously, such as Teflon coating and heat treatment. At this time, the conveyed guide wire vibrates between the rollers, which affects the quality of the coating. Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic equation of the guide wire to be transported in the longitudinal direction, and design parameters setting method of the feed speed and the interval of the roller supporting the wire is proposed to minimize the vibration amplitude of the guide wire during transport. The Teflon coating of the medical guide wire was carried out based on the developed coating equipment. The target coating thickness of the guide wire was set to less than $10{\mu}m$ in the circumferential direction, and the results were examined by optical microscopy.

Modeling of Displacement of Linear Roller Bearing Subjected to External Forces Considering LM Block Deformation (외부하중을 받는 선형 롤러베어링의 LM 블록 변형을 고려한 변위 모델링)

  • Linear roller bearing (LRB) is an important mechanical element that is widely used in precise positioning systems that are subjected to large loads. This paper presents a new model for estimating the displacement of an LRB subjected to external forces. For this purpose, assuming that the linear motion block (LM block) is rigid, the equilibrium conditions for the LRB were obtained by solving the equilibrium equations of the rollers and the rigid LM block using the iterative Newton-Raphson method. The contact loads between the rollers and raceways were determined considering the profiled rollers. Then, the structural deformations of the LM block, subjected to the contact loads from the rigid LM block model, were computed using a finite element model for the LM block. The displacements of the LRB were then determined by superposition of the rigid LM block displacements on the induced displacements due to the structural deformations of the LM block. The proposed method was verified through comparison with a program by the bearing manufacturer.

Springback Reduction of Multi-step Cylindrical Cup in Spinning Process. (스피닝공정에 있어서 스프링백 억제방안)

  • Spinning process is a chipless metal forming method for axi-symmetric parts, which is more economical, efficient and versatile method for producing parts than the other sheet metal forming process such as stamping or deep drawing. In this study, a fundamental experiment was conducted to improve productivity with process parameters such as tool path, angle of roller holder($\alpha$), feed rate($\gamma$) and corner radius of forming roller(Rr). These factors were selected as variables in the experiment because they were most likely expected to hale an effect on spring back. The empirical results were analyzed to know how much spring back was affected by these factors. And also thickness and diameter distribution of a multistage cup obtained by spinning process were observed and compared with those of a commercial product produced by conventional deep drawing.

An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Friction Between a Moving Web and a Roller (이송중인 웹과 롤러간의 마찰 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In the continuos process systems, traction between a moving web and rollers is one of key mechanisms for the study of major issues including the distributed control of tension, guiding, wrinkling, winding, and scratching. Energy is transferred from the driven rollers to the web and from the web to the idle rollers through traction. The characteristics of friction play major role in the determination of the traction force between the moving web and the rollers. In this paper the characteristics of friction between the moving web and the rollers are studied. A procedure to determine the friction coefficient between the moving web and rollers is developed. An experimental setup to validate the procedure is devised. Experimental results showed that the value of traction coefficient decreases as the operating web speed increases and increases as the operation web tension increase.
