Usable capacity is one of the most important parameters for evaluating the performance of an adsorbent for $CO_2$ capture from flue gas streams. In the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process, the usable capacity is calculated as the difference between the quantity adsorbed in flue gas at high pressure (ca. 20 bar) and the quantity adsorbed at lower purge pressure (ca. 2 bar). In this paper, two stereo-types of metal-organic framework (MOF) were evaluated as an promising adsorbent for $CO_2$ capture: flexible structured MOF (MIL-53) and MOF possessing strong binding sites (MOF-74). The results showed that a total $CO_2$ capture capacity is strongly related to the specific surface area and heat of adsorption, revealing high uptake in MOF-74. However, the usable capacity was more pronounced in MIL-53 due to a structural transition.
Promising geological structures for carbon dioxide capture and subsurface storage include aquifers, depleted reservoirs, and gas fields. Among these, aquifers are gaining attention due to their potential for storing significant amounts of carbon dioxide compared to other geological structures. Therefore, there is a growing interest in enhancing carbon dioxide storage efficiency by understanding the characteristics of aquifers and developing technologies tailored to their properties. In this study, the storage efficiency of carbon dioxide injection following surfactant pre-injection into porous micro-models was evaluated. The results indicate that as the concentration of the surfactant solution injected prior to carbon dioxide injection increases, storage efficiency improves. Conversely, lower concentrations require more surfactant injection to enhance storage efficiency. Furthermore, under identical surfactant concentration conditions, the storage efficiency from surfactant pre-injection prior to supercritical carbon dioxide injection is approximately 30% lower compared to surfactant-co-solvent substitution as observed in previous studies. However, under the maximum concentration conditions investigated in this study, similar storage efficiencies to those of previous studies were achieved. These findings are expected to guide concentration determinations for surfactant application aimed at enhancing carbon dioxide storage efficiency in aquifers in future studies.
Gas hydrates are known to form by physical interactions between host water and guest gas molecules and thus can be treated as a special type of icy materials. The gas hydrates are recently highlighted because of their use to future energy source even though they were discovered naturally in the deep-sea marine sediments a long time ago. However, the present and future urgent task is to develop the efficient and safe production technology for recovering methane from gas hydrates. Here, we propose one of potential recovery processes using swapping phenomenon occurring between gaseous carbon dioxide and methane hydrate deposits. Such a swapping process provide several technological and economical advantages over conventional processes. The carbon dioxide can be directly sequestered into methane hydrate layer and simultaneously methane can be produced with a high recovery rate more than 90%. In addition, the icy powders can be effectively used as a new medium for storing hydrogen. To increase hydrogen storage capacity the icy hydrate networks need to be redesigned to create the more empty cages in which hydrogen gas can be enclathrated. Functionalized icy materials might be used in a variety of energy and environmental fields.

In this study, after operational data for a landfill gas power plant were collected, the methane gas concentration was predicted using a deep learning method. Concentrations of methane gas, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen concentration, as well as data related to the valve opening degree, air temperature and humidity were collected from 23 pipeline bases for 88 matches from January to November 2017. After the deep learning model learned the collected data, methane gas concentration was estimated by applying other data. Our study yielded extremely accurate estimation results for all of the 23 pipeline bases.

This study was carried out to collect gas emitted from agricultural heaters using kerosene and to identify the emission concentration of carbon dioxide according to the age of agricultural heating machine. As a result of the linear regression analysis, the carbon dioxide emissions according to the year of agricultural heating machine are R2 = 0.84, which follows y = 26.99x+721.98. Distributed analysis was classified into three groups according to the age of agricultural heating machine. As a result of the distributed analysis, it was 2.196×10-13, which was smaller than the 0.05 probability set for the analysis, which means that there is a difference in at least one group. As a result, the age of the agriculture machine was divided into three groups and the difference between groups was tested. A statistical analysis result was derived that there was a difference in the emission concentration of carbon dioxide according to the age of agricultural heating machine. It is thought that it can be used to investigate greenhouse gas emissions by investigating the amount of carbon dioxide generated by agricultural heaters in the agricultural field of Korea.

CCU (Carbon Capture & Utilization) has a potential technology for the reduction and usage of carbon dioxide which is greenhouse gas emitting from a fossil fuel buring. To decompose the carbon dioxide, a three phase gliding arc plasma-catalytic reactor was designed and manufactured. Experiments of carbon dioxide reduction was performed by varying the gas flow rate with feeding the $CO_2$ only as well as the input power, the catalyst type and steam supply with respect to the injection of the mixture of $CO_2$ and $CH_4$. The $CO_2$ decomposition rate was 7.9% and the energy efficiency was $0.0013L/min{\cdot}W$ at a $CO_2$ flow rate of 12 L/min only. Carbon monoxide and oxygen was generated in accordance with the destruction of carbon dioxide. When the injection ratio of $CH_4/CO_2$ reached 1.29, the $CO_2$ destruction and $CH_4$ conversion rates were 37.8% and 56.6% respectively at a power supply of 0.76 kW. During the installation of $NiO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst bed, the $CO_2$ destruction and $CH_4$ conversion rates were 11.5% and 9.9% respectively. The steam supply parameter do not have any significant effects on the carbon dioxide decomposition.

This paper presents the feasibility study on $CO_2$ carrier for carbon dioxide marine geological storage. Conceptual design was carried out to acquire $CO_2$ carriers by retrofitting existing vessels and new ship-building. Based on conceptual design, the acquisition cost of $CO_2$ carriers was estimated. Finally, necessary expense and number of ships were estimated based on operational plans for the assumed scenario.
Gasification technology is one of the representative next-generation fossil fuel utilization technologies, converting low grade fossil fuels such as coal, heavy residue oil, pet-coke into highly clean and efficient energy sources. Accordingly, related market demand for gasification technology is ever increasing steadily and rapidly. A few years ago, conventional pulverized coal utilization technology had an edge over the gasification technology but the most significant technical barrier of limited capacity and availability has been largely overcome nowadays. Futhermore, it will be more competitive in the future with the advancement of related technologies such as gas turbine, ion transfer membrane and so on. China has recently completed a commercialization-capable large-scale coal gasification technology for its domestic market expansion and foreign export, rapidly becoming a newcomer in the field and competing with existing US and EU technical leadership at comparable terms. Techno-economic aspect deserves intensive attention and steady R&D efforts need to continue in organized, considering that gasification technology is quite attractive combined with $CO_2$ capture process and coal to SNG plant is economically viable in Korea where natural gas is very expensive. In the present paper, recent technology development and commercialization trend of many leading companies with coal gasification expertise have been reviewed with significant portion of literature cited from the recently held '2014 Gasification Technology Conference'.
