In this study, magnetite($Fe_3$$O_4$) from the converter dust of the Kwangyang steel making factory has been recove-red by means of the magnetic separation and the sedimentation column. The magnetite recovered from the dust is used for the preparation of Sr-ferrite instead of hematite. The results obtained in this study as follows : 1. The converter EP dust of the Kwangyang steel making factory are composed of $\alpha$-Fe, ($Fe_3$$O_4$) wustite etc. Magnetite in the converter EP dust is recovered by using sedimentation column and plastic bonding magnet. 2. It was confirmed that Sr-ferrite synthesis could be possible without oxidizing roasting of the magnetite. The steps of Sr-ferrite formation are proposed as follows : I$SrCO_3$$+Fe_3$O$_4$+1/2(1-X)$O_2$longrightarrow$\alpha$$-Fe _2$$O_3$$+SrFeO _3$\ulcorner+$CO_2$II. $5.5\alpha$$-Fe_2$$O_3$$+SrFeO_3$\ulcornerlongrightarrowSrFe\ulcornerO\ulcorner+1/2(1/2-X)$O_2$3. By using magnetite from the dust insted of hematite, the hard Sr-ferrite magnet of (B.H)\ulcorner=2.64MGOe in the magnetic characteristics was succesfully prepared.
Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect is known to be the physical origin for various exotic magnetic phenomena in the low-dimensional systems. Recently, SOC also draws lots of attention in the study on magnetically doped thermoelectric alloys to determine their properties as the thermoelectric application as well as the topological insulator via the exact electronic structures determination near the Fermi level. In this research, aiming to investigate the spin-orbit coupling effect on the structural properties such as the lattice constants and the bulk modulus of the most widely investigated thermoelectric host material, $Bi_2Te_3$, we carried out the first-principles electronic structure calculation using the all-electron FLAPW (full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave) method. Employing both the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), the structural optimization is achieved by varying the in-plane lattice constant fixing the perpendicular lattice constant and vice versa, to find that the SOC effect increases the equilibrium lattices slightly in both directions while it markedly reduces the bulk modulus value implying the strong orientational dependence, which are attributed to the material's intrinsic structural anisotropy.

In order to investigate the potential of a Angelica keiskei Koidzumi extract and its fractions as an active ingredient for whitening cosmetics, we prepared Angelica keiskei Koidzumi extract(70% ethanol), and the aqueous suspension was successively extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate(EA), and n-butanol fraction. We measured their inhibitory effects on mushroom tyrosinase and melanin synthesis in B16 melanoma cells and normal human kerationocytes in vitro. They did not show inhibitory activity against mushroom tyrosinase and the melanin synthesis except hexane and EA fractions. Hexane and EA fractions markedly inhibited cellular tyrosinase activity at a lower concentration(25 and 5 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively) than arbutin(250 ${\mu}g/mL$). We also quantified the released amount of endothelin-1(ET-1), a mitogen of melanocyte, and interleukin-$1{\alpha}$(IL-$1{\alpha})$, a mediator of UVB-induced inflammation. Hexane and EA fractions did not affect IL-$1{\alpha}$ production, but they decreased UVB-induced ET-1 production in normal human keratinocytes in a dose dependant manner. As a result, hexane and EA fractions could inhibit the melanogenesis through the inhibition of UVB-induced ET-1 production in normal human keratinocytes. This result suggests that hexane and EA fractions of Angelica keiskei Koidzumi extract could be used as an active ingredient for cosmetics.
$CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticles have been prepared by a sol-gel method. The structural and magnetic properties have been investigated by XRD, SEM, VSM and $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ powder that was annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ has spinel structure and behaved superparamagnetically. The estimated size of superparammagnetic $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle is around 10 nm. The hyperfine fields at 4.2 K f3r the A and B patterns were found to be 518 and 486 kOe, respectively. The blocking temperature $(T_B)$ of superparammagnetic $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle is about 250 K. The magnetic anisotropy constant of $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle was calculated to be $3.0X10^5\;ergs/cm^3$. $CoGa_{0.1}Fe_{1.9}O_4$ nanoparticle was annealed at $250^{\circ}C$ will be used to candidate for biomedicine applications as magnetic carriers.
SN 2011fe (also known as PTF 11kly) is a Type-1a supernova that appeared in M101, 2011 August. Being only 6.4 Mpc away, this supernova has been intensively observed by various facilities in the world. We monitored this supernova in UBVRI, grizY, and ZYJHK-bands using SNUO, LOAO, SOAO, CQUEAN/McDonald, UKIRT telescopes, and small telescopes in Korea and Mongolia. The monitoring observation is still ongoing, and the light curve has been accumulated over a year. We present the results of the long-term monitoring observation, together with a light-curve fitting result. We will also discuss our findings in terms of the usefulness of Type-Ia supernovae as a distance indicator.
To develop array magnetic sensors, specular-type giant magnetoresistive- spin valve (GMR-SV) film of Glass/Ta(5)MiFe(7)/IrMn(10)NiFe(5)/$O_2$/CoFe(5)/Cu(2.6)/CoFe(5)/$O_2$/NiFe(7)/Ta(5)(nm) was deposited by using a high-vacuum sputtering system. One of 15 way sensors in the area of $8{\times}8mm^2$ was Patterned a size of $20{\times}80{\mu}m^2$ in multilayer sample by Photo-lithography. All of 15 sensors with Cu electrodes were measured a uniform magnetic properties by 2-probe method. The highest magnetic sensitivity of MR and output voltage measured nearby an external magnetic field of 5 Oe were MS = 0.5%/Oe and ${\triangle}$V= 3.0 mV, respectively. An easy-axis of top-free layers of $CoFe/O_2/NiFe$ with shape anisotropy was perpendicular to one of bottom-pinned layers $IrMn/NiFe/O_2/CoFe$. When the sensing current increased from 1 mA to 10 mA, the output working voltage uniformly increased and the magnetic sensitivity was almost stable to use the nano-magnetic devices with good sensitive properties.

Ceramides, a constituent of stratum corneum lipids, play a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of the epidermal permeability barrier. As in many other skin disorders, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis show decrease and transformation of the ceramides. The application of ceramide has been demonstrated to be efficient in the repair of these skin disorders. Nevertheless, natural ceramides are still too expensive and small in quantity to be used as a cosmetic ingredient. Although a lot of pseudo-ceramides have been developed and on the market until now, those pseudo-ceramides did not fully meet the consumer's needs, therefore, there is still a demand for a novel pseudo-ceramides. We synthesized a novel pseudo-ceramide BPC-16 from 2-(2-amino-ethylamino)-ethanol(AEEA), which was characterized by structures having both amide bonds and hydroxyl groups as hydrophilic units, as well as two long alkyl chains. We formulated emulsion with BPC-16, cholesterol, stearic acid, and other components to make an emulsion. These emulsion showed a typical optical anisotropy on cross-polarized microscopy. This 'Maltese cross' appearance is a characteristic figure observed in concentric lamellar emulsion under cross-polarized microscopy. In cytotoxicity assay using MTT in monolayer and three dimension(3D) cell culture, a BPC-16 showed only negligible cytotoxicity up to the effective concentration for barrier repair and moisturization(less than 10 mM). In the measurement of TEWL, this BPC-16 showed significant recovery of water-retaining properties when it was topically applied to either SDS-induced dry skin or normal skin compared to that of base cream. This novel pseudo-ceramide BPC-16 showed as effective in skin barrier repair and moisturization as natural ceramides.

Tomographic approaches to image underground structure using electrical properties, can be divided into DC resistivity, electromagnetic, and radar tomography, based on the operating frequency. DC resistivity and radar tomography methods have been recently applied to site investigation for engineering purpose in Korea. This paper review these two tomography methods, through the case histories acquired in Korea. As another method of borehole radar survey, borehole radar reflection method is included, and its inherent problem and solution are discussed, how to find the azimuth angle of reflector using direction-finding-antenna. Since the velocity anisotropy of radar wave has been commonly encountered in field data, anisotropic radar tomography is discussed in this paper. In DC resistivity tomography, two subjects are focussed, electrode arrays, and borehole effect owing to the conductive fluid in borehole. Using the numerical modeling data, various kinds of electrode ways are compared, and borehole effect is illustrated. Most of the case histories presented in this paper are compared with known geology, core logging data, and/or Televiewer images.
Sr substituted materials for some barium in M-type barium ferrite powder and Co-Ti substituted Sr-Ba hexagonal ferrite powder were prepared by citrate sol-gel method and 2 MOE sol-gel method these hexaferrite particles were reduced for 1hr in the hydrogen gas. The reduction temperatures were varied in the range of 250 $^{\circ}C$ to 500 $^{\circ}C$. X-ray diffraction patterns were measured using diffractometer with Cu $K_{\Alhpa}$ radiation. Mossbauer absorption spectra were measured with a constant acceleration spectrometer. We have focused on studying the origin of increasing $M_s$ by M$\"{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. Ferrite particles which were sintered at 105$0^{\circ}C$ were found to be typical magnetoplumbite structure and single phase. XRD patterns with varying the reduction temperatures in $Sr_{0.5}Ba_{0.5}Fe_{10}O_{19}$ indicates ferrites particles become composite hexaferrites containing $\alpha$-Fe at T_{red}=350 \;$^{\circ}C$$. On the otherhand, it was found that $Co^{2+}$ ions and $Ti^{4+}$ ions in $Sr_{0.7}Ba_{0.3}Fe_{10}CoTiO_{19}$ prevent from changing $Fe^{3+}$ ions to $\alpha$-Fe during the $H_2$ reduction. Comparing Mossbauer results with XRD results, we have determined most of $\alpha$-Fe are reduced from $4f_{vi}$ sites and 12k sites of $Fe^{3+}$ ions. These $\alpha$-Fe phase bring the induced anisotropy and increase saturation magnetization $M_s$.TEX>.

A new axial pressing method using pulse magnetizing field was studied to improve the remanence of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. In order to make near-net shape green compacts of butterfly, disk, or coin magnets, conventional axial-type pressing has been normally used. However, compared to the transverse-type pressing, it is not possible to obtain higher remanence by this method because the magnetic alignment of powder begins to deteriorate when the density of green compacts increases over a critical value. On the other hand, we found that an axial pressing under pulse magnetizing field was very effective to increase the degree of magnetic alignment of powder, yielding remanences even higher than those obtained by the transverse pressing. In this study, it was revealed that appropriate tapping density and how to apply pulse magnetic held were important to improve the grain alignment and thus remanence of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet.
