The Effects of Media Framing and Image Restoration Strategies on the Public's Crisis Perceptions (언론 프레이밍과 이미지 회복 전략이 공중의 위기 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research is to figure out the effects of media framing and image restoration strategies on the public's crisis perceptions. The literature review revealed that the public perceives crises through the media lens and image restoration strategies heralded by the organization interact with media frames in the process of the public's perceiving the crisis. The news content analysis and the experiment were conducted to accomplish the research purpose. Also food-related crises were selected for a research case because they have a great impact on the society. The content analysis showed that image restoration strategies designed by the crisis organization tend to be conveyed through anecdote-type news frames. Most image restoration strategies were close to defensive communications and not differentiated by the crisis type. The experiment outcomes demonstrated that the organization's image restoration strategies were not consistent with what the public preferred in the crisis situation. Such public perceptions also were changed according to media frames. Media frames and image restoration strategies have an interaction effect on the public's crisis perception.

  • This study examined image restoration strategies of political parties regarding the Presidential impeachment In Korea. The analytic framework of this study was Benoit's rhetorical theory of image restoration strategies. Results showed that both Hanara Party and Minju Party used attack accuser as a major image restoration strategy. However, Hanara Party changed their strategies from attack accuser to future oriented. Thus, Hanara Party's image restoration strategy successfully applied Coombs theory, which future oriented strategy was good for an organization of the high responsibility in the context of crisis situation.

  • The public trades information through social media during crises. The use of social media during crises has been increased steadily. However, there are few studies done on the effects of social media use on crisis perception. The goal of this study is to examine how social media affect an organization's ability to manage crises. The study specifically tries to investigate how media types, organization-public relationships, and image restoration strategies affect the public's perception of crises. An experiment was conducted to test research questions by presenting crisis scenarios and observing how newspapers and the social media Twitter affected the crisis. According to a three-way ANOVA test, the type of media and image restoration strategies had an interaction effect on the public's perception of crises. Also, the type of media, organization-public relationship, and image restoration strategies had a three way effect toward the acceptance of crisis communication strategies. As a result, it can be said that the public's perception and acceptances of crisis communication were different depending on the type of media used. The effectiveness of social media was proved, and it was seen that to be able to effectively use social media, each organization must have different strategies depending on their needs.

  • This study were proposed for the promotion policy on public confidence in nuclear power recovery schemes. To this end, the existing survey and secondary data review and public distrust of nuclear power plant safety issues were raised. In addition, the meta-analysis data were analyzed by using. Promote public confidence in nuclear power plants recovered three major policy presented. First, the nuclear power plant for the economical / safety communication strategy, short term / long term in terms proposed. Second, strengthen the nuclear power plant reliability and short-term communication strategy / long term in terms proposed. Finally, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's long-term image building measures proposed. The results of this study Korea's nuclear power plants to increase confidence in the effect is expected to be presented.

Development of Public Diplomacy Crisis Communication Model and Its Application (공공외교 위기커뮤니케이션 모델의 개발과 적용)

  • This study finds that the South Korean government's public diplomacy efforts have focused on promotional activities such as the "K-wave" or responses to controversial historical issues. However, the South Korean government needs to be more prepared for strategic responses to unexpected crises and subsequent communications. This paper attempts to apply crisis communication research developed in the field of public relations to public diplomacy. To do so, this research reviewed theories in crisis communication, an essential area of public relations, and developed a crisis communication model. The model was then applied to several crisis case studies to suggest how to develop response strategies and conduct communications. As a result, this research developed an Ongoing Public Diplomacy Crisis Communication Model (PDCCM) that can be applied to public diplomacy research and practice. The model identifies four crisis communication principles (be quick, be open, be consistent, be authentic) that should be applied in six phases. Following continuous social listening and monitoring, governments should analyze crisis situations using sense-making, develop short- and long-term crisis response objectives, response strategies, and communication messages depending on the level of responsibility, implement crisis communication, and conduct post-crisis evaluation.

  • Consumer perception evaluation depending on the game genre affects many parts of the corporate management including market share, gaining new consumer, maintaining consumer and competition. If consumer perceives a company and a product as bad image, gaining new consumer would be no more available, and enormous amount of time would have to be spent to recover from that bad image. However game companies tend to simply keep spontaneous marketing strategy with the enforcing marketing. Its results will be the short-term success sacrificing the long-term marketing opportunity In order to increase sales and market share, the consumer perception evaluation as well as evaluating the game product and the corporate image is necessary. This article gives emphasis on the general game analysis and formulating strategy in the general game genre rather than a certain corporation and a product. Analyzing a particular product, company, platform and nation is necessary and will be followed subsequently.

  • The competitiveness of the domestic cosmetics market will improve more rapidly when efficient market segmentation is secured, qualitative information about each of the segmented markets is gathered, and adequate marketing strategies to meet the demands of each segmented markets is established. Therefore, continuous studies are needed to secure qualitative information for market segmentation. In order to find out whether the domestic cosmetics market could be segmented according to consumers' shopping orientation, the present study analyzed cosmetics purchasing behavior, complaint behavior, and demographic characteristics of each consumer group classified according to their shopping orientation. The study was implemented by a normative-descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. Three groups of consumers were identified according to their shopping orientation: price-oriented group, information-oriented group, and brand-oriented group. It was confirmed that the groups, classified according to shopping orientation, have significantly different demographic, purchasing, and complaint behavior. Therefore, shopping orientation should be carefully considered in the segmentation of the cosmetics market.

A Study on the Relationship between Marketing Activities and Brand Equity in Nonprofit Organizations : Focused on the Donation Market of Charitable Organizations (비영리조직의 마케팅 활동과 브랜드 자산 간 관계에 관한 연구: 자선모금기관의 기부시장(donation market)을 중심으로)

  • This study explores the relationship between marketing activities and brand equity in nonprofit organizations, specifically investigating the relational linkage between four selected marketing mix elements and brand equity through the mediating role of brand equity dimensions. Employing a structural equation model, the study empirically tests research hypotheses and finds some important implication for brand equity creation strategies for nonprofits. The results show that brand association is the only dimension that is positively related to brand equity, reflecting the current donation market in Korea where nonprofits have such a low presence that donors have little knowledge and chance to identify their brands and to build trust relationships with them. Furthermore, the results highlight the importance and roles of promotion and process marketing efforts, as they are proved to enhance brand association. The study also finds that promotion is positively related to brand awareness and process contributes to perceived quality and brand loyalty. Based on these findings, the study suggest that nonprofits make further efforts on active promotion and process development to create positive, differentiated images and better accessibility, and finally improve their brand equity.

  • The development of EDI is playing a very great role in strengthening corporate competitiveness in the foreign market in addition to the expansion of the size of trade volumes between nations and the solution of the problem or streamlining procedures for trade as well as the smooth processing of trade business and cost and time savings effects. At point in time that corporate credibility and national image in Korea have greatly fallen in the IMF-supported regime, Korea is making every effort to restore its national credibility through the expansion of exports and focusing on the increase of exports through EDI for trade as part of this. Therefore. this study was intended to probe the EDI promotion strategy of the exporting firm with the development of EDI As a result, the following conslusion was drawn : (1) Development of the EDI system to provide immediate options. (2) Making the staff information - minded at a company-wide level. (3) Development of the website as the tool of the marketing strategy. (4) Construction of the Cyber Shopping Mall.
