Compression-time Shortening Algorithm on JPEG2000 using Pre-Truncation Method (선자름 방법을 이용한 JPEG2000에서의 부호차 시간 단축 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm that shorten coding time maintaining image quality in JPEG2000, which is the standard, of still image compression. This method encodes only the bit plane selected as appropriate truncation point for output bitstream, obtained from estimation of frequency distribution for whole image. Wavelet characterized by multi-resolution has vertical, horizontal, and diagonal frequency components for each resolution. The frequency interrelation addressed above is maintained thorough whole level of resolution and represents the unique frequency characteristics for input image. Thus, using the frequency relation at highest level, we can pick the truncation point for the compression time decrease by estimating code bits at encoding each code block. Also, we reduced the encoding time using simply down sampling instead of low-pass filtering at low-levels which are not encoded in color component of lower energy than luminance component. From the proposed algorithm, we can reduce about 15~36% of encoding time maintaining PSNR 30$\pm$0.5㏈.

A Camera Image Authentication Using Image Information Copyright Signature for Mobile Device without Distortion (무왜곡 휴대용 단말기 영상정보 권한서명을 이용한 카메라 영상 인증)

  • Quality and resolution of camera in mobile device is improved significantly. In this paper, we propose block-based information hide techniques without image distortion for mobile device to solve image degradation in conventional watermarking methods. Information of image is composed with text such as camera maker, model, date, time, etc. Each text is converted to $8{\times}8$ pixel blocks and is added to the bottom of image. Generally image including block based information for image authentication are compressed using JPEG in mobile device. The vertical line value in JPEG header is modified by original size of image sensor. This technique can hide the block based authentication information using general decoder. In the experimental results, JPEG file size is slightly increased within 0.1% for the proposed block based authentication information encoding. Finally proposed methods can be adopted for various embedded systems using medical image, smart phone and DSLR camera.

  • In this paper, we propose a new digital watermarking technique. The main idea of the proposed algorithm relies on the assumption that any real number can be expressed as a summation of the exponential form with base of 2 and if only consider the first few summations some numbers can be expressed in the same form. Therefore, we can be sure that some amount of changes does not affect the first few summations. The algorithm decomposes a host image in wavelet domain and intensity of the significant wavelet coefficient is expressed in exponential form with base of 2. Multiple barcode watermarks are then embedded by modifying the parity of the exponent. The proposed scheme is semi-blind and also offers either objective or subjective deteew su as well. From extracted watermarks, more accurate watermark is obtained by merging technique as a final watermark. As a simulation result, the proposed algorithm could resist most cases of salt and pepper noise, Gaussian noise and JPEG compression.

  • In this paper, we proposed the improved Advanced Detail Enhancement algorithm that improve the blurring by the lossy compression with CODEC and reduce the ringing artifacts in restoration. The conventional algorithm needs much amount of the process by the use of RGB color space. To improve this, we only used the luminance value in YCbCr color space. We verified that the performance of the improved algorithm with Y color value, the luminance value, is equal to the conventional algorithm with RGB color value and that the operation time of the improved is shorter about 24% than the conventional through the measurement of the operation time with Kodak standard images.

A study on mobile web design for efficient delivery of information (효율적인 정보전달을 위한 모바일 웹 디자인에 관한 연구)

  • The importance of effective delivery of information in the mobile web is increasing in Korea, due to the growing number of smart-phone users. In this study, I took a look at the characteristics of mobile devices and the mobile web, and after researching Korea's portal websites' mobile web designs, we figured out the users' preferences of mobile web designs through surveys and interviews. To provide compressed information on a small screen, it is ideal for significant contents to show up in the state that does not require scrolling. Users preferred compact and neat designs, and menus that were made with icons that are easy to touch with fingers, in the mobile web. When receiving delivered information, users preferred not only texts but texts that were provided together with photograph images. If usability evaluations and examination of preferences are achieved together, I think it will serve as a mobile web guideline that enables efficient delivery of information in the mobile web.

Sparse Signal Recovery with Parallel Orthogonal Matching Pursuit and Its Performances (병렬OMP 기법을 통한 성긴신호 복원과 그 성능)

  • In this paper, parallel orthogonal matching pursuit (POMP) is proposed to supplement the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) which has been widely used as a greedy algorithm for sparse signal recovery. The process of POMP is simple but effective: (1) multiple indexes maximally correlated with the observation vector are chosen at the firest iteration, (2) the conventional OMP process is carried out in parallel for each selected index, (3) the index set which yields the minimum residual is selected for reconstructing the original sparse signal. Empirical simulations show that POMP outperforms than the existing sparse signal recovery algorithms in terms of exact recovery ratio (ERR) for sparse pattern and mean-squared error (MSE) between the estimated signal and the original signal.

Design of A Deblocking Filter Based on Macroblock Overlap Scheme for H.264/AVC (H.264/AVC용 매크로블록 겹침 기법에 기반한 디블록킹 필터의 설계)

  • H.264/AVC is a new international standard for the compression of video images, in which a deblocking filter has been adopted to remoye blocking artifacts. This paper proposes an efficient architecture of deblocking filter in H.264/AVC. By making good use of data dependence between neighboring $4{\times}4$ blocks, the memory sire is reduced and the throughput of the deblocking filter processing is increased. The designed deblocking filter further enhances the parallelism by simultaneously executing horizontal and vertical filtering within a macroblock in pipeline method and adopting overlap between macroblocks. The implementation result shows that the proposed architecture enhances the performance of deblocking filter processing from 1.75 to 4.23 times than that of the conventional deblocking filter. Hence the Proposed architecture of deblocking filter is able to perform real-time deblocking in high-resolution($2048{\times}1024$) video applications.

Study on Microstructure and Physical Properties of PUF by the Impeller Type of Agitator (교반기의 임펠러 형태에 따른 폴리우레탄 폼의 미세구조와 물성 연구)

  • Polyurethane foam (PUF) can be manufactured in soft, semi-rigid, and hard forms, so it is used in various fields industrially. Among them, rigid PUF has excellent mechanical properties and low thermal conductivity, and is used as a thermal insulation material for buildings and as a cold insulation material in the natural gas transportation field. In this field, there is a steady demand on higher mechanical strength and lower thermal conductivity. In this study, a rigid PUF was manufactured, and the microstructure and physical properties were studied according to the impeller type (propeller, dispersed turbine) of the agitator. Through FE-SEM and Micro-CT analysis, it was confirmed that the average pore size of the foam manufactured with the dispersed turbine was 21.5% smaller than that of the pore made by the propeller. The compressive strength was improved by 15.4%, and the thermal conductivity decreased by 3.1% in the foam with small pores. This result can be utilized for fabricating PUF composites.

Band Selection Algorithm based on Expected Value for Pixel Classification (픽셀 분류를 위한 기댓값 기반 밴드 선택 알고리즘)

  • In an embedded system such as a drone, it is difficult to store, transfer and analyze the entire hyper-spectral image to a server in real time because it takes a lot of power and time. Therefore, the hyper-spectral image data is transmitted to the server through dimension reduction or compression pre-processing. Feature selection method are used to send only the bands for analysis purpose, and these algorithms usually take a lot of processing time depending on the size of the image, even though the efficiency is high. In this paper, by improving the temporal disadvantage of the band selection algorithm, the time taken 24 hours was reduced to around 60-180 seconds based on the 40000*682 image resolution of 8GB data, and the use of 7.6GB RAM was significantly reduced to 2.3GB using 45 out of 150 bands. However, in terms of pixel classification performance, more than 98% of analysis results were derived similarly to the previous one.

  • As information technology used for simulation and virtual reality developed, there is a growing interest in animation technologies which will effectively deliver simulation results to users. Various efforts have been made to improve animation performance, like playback quality and speed, input-output speed and storage space reduction. However, earlier studies generally focused on image compression frame by frame. To significantly improve storage space and playback speed, animation data should be vectorized. Also, spatial and temporal duplication have to be removed. In this study, animation data structure was improved fundamentally through establishment of hierarchy and vectorization. Also Spatial and temporal duplication of animation data was removed through vectorization based on train route. As a result, storage space was reduced, input-output speed and playback speed were considerably improved. According to the test, additional Patternization which followed vectorization brought reduction of over 80% in storage space and input-output speed was quadrupled. Patternization technology can be used as a proper storage method of animation data, and can provide user-specific animation by small data transmission.
