Satellite structure should be designed to accommodate and support safely the payload and equipments necessary for its own missions and to secure satellite and payloads from severe laucnch enviroments. The lauch environments imposed on satellites are quasi-static accelerations, aerodynamic loads, acoustic loads and shock loads. To qualify the structure design against low-frequency dyanmic enviromnent, sine vibration test should be performed. During sine vibration test, the notchings are implemented in order to keep the payloads and equipments from excessive loading at their own main modes. This paper deals with sine test prediction, sine vibration test results, comparison of predicted values and tested values, and verification of Finite Element Model.

Fracture behaviors and acoustic emission (AE) characteristics of single-edge-notched monolithic aluminum plates and glass fiber/aluminum hybrid laminate plates have been investigated under tensile loads. AE signals from monolithic aluminum could be classified into two different types: signals with low frequency band and high frequency band. High frequency signals were detected in the post stage of loading beyond displacement of 0.45mm. For glass fiber/aluminum laminates, AE signals with high amplitude and long duration were additionally confirmed on FFT frequency analysis, which corresponded to macro-crack propagation and/or delamination between A1 and fiber layers. On the basis of the above AE analysis and fracture observation with optical microscopy and ultrasonic T scan, characteristic features of AE associated with fracture processes of single-edge-notched glass fiber/aluminum laminates were elucidated according to different fiber ply orientations.
This research makes comparisons of empirical fatigue-lives between AC8A A1 alloy and the metal matrix composites(A1/A12O3, A1/A12O3/A12O3p), and also includes comparisons of fatigue-lives between empirical fatigue-lives and estimated fatigue-lives from regular-periodic load testing, AE method to predict fatigue-crack initiation before visible in sight and SEM(scanning electron microscope) photographs of each material. According to the test results of the notched specimen. the fatigue life of the hybrid metal matrix composites and the metal matrix composites, which are more brittle than the base matrix was shorter than that of the base matrix under both types of loads. In addition, the fatigue-life estimated from the damage summation method and that from experiments at random loads were fairly identical.

This paper presents the method for structure borne noise analysis of a flexible body in multibody system. The proposed method is the superposition method using the flexible multibody dynamic analysis and the finite element one. This method is executed in 3 steps. In the 1st step, time dependent quantities such as dynamic loads, modal coordinates and gross body motion of the flexible body are calculated through a flexible multibody dynamic analysis. And frequency response functions of those time dependent quantities are computed through Fourier transforms. In the 2nd step, acoustic pressure coefficients are obtained through structure-acoustic coupling analyses by the finite element method. In the final step, frequency responses of acoustic pressure at the acoustic nodes are recovered through linear superposition of frequency response functions with acoustic pressure coefficients. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified in the numerical example of a simple car model.

Satellite structure should be designed to accommodate and support safely the payload and equipments necessary for its own missions and to secure satellite and payloads from severe launch environments. The launch environments imposed on satellites are quasi-static accelerations, aerodynamic loads, acoustic loads and shock loads. Currently KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) is developing Geo-KOMPSAT-2(Geostationary Earth Orbit KOrea Multi-Purpose Satellite) with technologies which were acquired during COMS(Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) development. As compared to COMS Geo-KOMPSAT-2 requires more propellant due to mass increase of Advanced Meteorological Payload with high resolution and increase of miss life, it is difficult to apply the design concept of COMS to Geo-KOMPSAT-2. This paper deals with conceptual design of Structural Subsystem for Geo-KOMPSAT-2.

This paper presents experimental research work for the evaluation of ultimate flexural behaviors of prestressed concrete beams with a corroded tendon. In order to evaluate the effects of loss of prestress or loss of tendon area on the ultimate flexural strength of prestressed concrete beams, static load tests are conducted using five prestressed concrete beams. After exposing prestressing tendons in two test beams using 25mm drill bit, the exposed tendons were corroded using an accelerating corrosion equipment to simulate loss of tendon area. During the tests, steel strains, concrete strains and displacements at the center of test beams were measured, and acoustic emission measurements were conducted to detect wire fractures. Based on the test results, evaluation method for predicting flexural strength of prestressed concrete beams with corroded tendons is investigated. In addition, evaluation methods for predicting the existence of corroded tendons in post-tensioned prestressed concrete beams at service loads are discussed.

A time-frequency analysis method was developed to analyze the dispersive waves caused by impact loads in structural members such as beams and plates. Stress waves generated by ball drop and pencil lead break were recorded by ultrasonic transducers and acoustic emission (AE) sensors. Wavelet transform (WT) using Gabor function was employed to analyze the dispersive waves in the time-frequency domain, and then to find the arrival time of the waves as a function of frequency. The measured group velocities in the beam and the plate were compared with the predictions based on the Timoshenko beam theory and Rayleigh-Lamb frequency equations, respectively. The agreements were found to be very good.

Noises from the large scale marine propeller are calculated numerically on non-cavitation condition. The hydrodynamic analysis are carried out by potential based panel method with time marching free wake approach. The distribution of hyrodynamic loads on the propeller surface and noise signals are obtained using the unsteady Bernoulli's equation and the Farasssat formula respectively. It turns out that the noise signal shows strong peak at the blade passage frequency. Noise signals and directivity patterns for both the thickness and the loading noise are compared with each other. The directivity pattern for the loading noise shows minor lobe at the backward side of the rotating disc plane.

Noises from the helicopter rotor model are calculated numerically at various pitch angles. The aerodynamic data are calculated by using prescribed wake model and unsteady panel method. The distribution of aerodynamic loads on the blade surface are obtained from $0^{\circ}$ to $9^{\circ}$ pitch angles with equiangular increments of $1.5^{\circ}$. Although thickness noise is not related to the change of pitch angles, loading noise level increases about 3~4dBA every $1.5^{\circ}$ increment of pitch angle. The additive noise level shows sufficient value to perceive the loudness. From the result of directivity pattern the sound level at the lower region of the blade disc plane is higher than that of the upper region.

Noises from the large scale marine propeller are calculated numerically on non-cavitation condition. The hydrodynamic analysis is carried out by potential based panel method with time marching free wake approach. The distribution of hydrodynamic loads on the propeller surface and noise signals are obtained using the unsteady Bernoulli's equation and the Farasssat's formula respectively. It turns out that the noise signal at the narrow band shows strong peak at the blade passage frequency, and the peak value at the 1/3 octave band also shows the same trend. Noise signals and directivity patterns for both the thickness and the loading noise are compared with each other. The directivity pattern for the loading noise shows minor lobe at the backward side of the rotating disc plane.
