  • Textile composite materials have been widely applied in aerospace structures due to their various advantages such as high specific stiffnesses and strengths, better out-of-plane performances, impact and delamination resistances, and net shape fabrications. In this paper, a modified geometric model of repeating unit cell (RUC) is suggested based on the Naik's model for 2D plain weave textile composites. The RUC geometry is defined by various parameters. The proposed model considers another parameter which is a gap length between adjacent yarns. The effective stiffnesses are predicted by using the yarn slicing technique and stress averaging technique based on iso-strain assumption. And the stiffnesses of RUC are evaluated by adjusting the gap ratio and verified by comparing with Naik's model and experimental data for 2D plain weave composite specimens.

  • The high-tension bolted joints are clamped by the axial force which approaches the yielding strength. The introduced axial force is transmitted to the connection members pass through washer. The transferred load in connections is balanced to the compressive stress of plates, axial force in bolts and the external loads. In this mechanism, the compressive stress and slip load we dominated by the effective stiffness of bolted joints and plates. In general the effective stiffness is specified to product to the effective area and elasticity modulus in connections. In this reason, the conic projection formular which is assumed that the axial force in bolts is distributed to the cone shape and that region is related to the elastic deformation mechanism in connections, was proposed. But it conclude what kind of formula is justified. Therefore in this paper, the fatigue tests are performed to the high tension bolted joints and inspected to the phase on the friction face. And using the FEM and numerical method, it is analyzed and approximated to the compressive stress distribution and its region. Moreover, it is estimated to the effective area and to the relation the friction area to the effective compressive distribution region.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to study the behavior of RC wide beam-column joints with slab subjected to reversed cyclic loads under constant axial load. Six half scale interior wide beam-column assemblies representing a portion of a frame subjected to simulated seismic loading were tested, including three specimens without slab and three specimens with slab. The primary variables were the ratio of column-to-beam flexural capacity ($M_r={\Sigma}M_c/{\Sigma}M_b$ ; 0.77~2.26), ratio of the column-to-beam width (b/H ; 1.54, 1.67). Test results are shown that (1) the current design code and practice for interior joints(type 2) are apply to the wide beam-high strength concrete column. (2) the presence of a slab have an effect on the performance of the wide beam-high strength concrete column interior joints(type 2). therefore in the design of the wide beam-high strength concrete column interior joints(type 2), the width of slab effective as a T beam flange should be considered. It was show that the case of the ratio of column-to-beam flexural capacity is more than 2.0, the effective width of slab are 2 times of an effective depth of wide beam, however if the ratio of column-to-beam flexural capacity is 1.4~2.0, the effective width of slab are not able to be considered.

  • A new non-destructive fatigue prediction model of the composite laminates is developed. The natural frequencies of fatigue-damaged laminates under extensional loading are related to the fatigue life of the laminates by establishing the equivalent flexural stiffness reduction as a function of the elastic properties of sublaminates. The flexural stiffness is derived by relating the 90-ply elastic modulus reduction, and using the laminate plate theory to the degraded elastic modulus and the intact elastic modulus of other laminates. The natural frequency reduction model, in which the dominant fatigue mode can be identified from the sensitivity scale factors of sublaminate elastic properties, provides natural frequency vs. fatigue cycle curves for the composite laminates. Vibration tests were also conducted on $[{90}_2/0_2]_s$ carbon/epoxy laminates to verify the natural frequency reduction model. Correlations between the predictions of the model and experimental results are good.

  • A tubular member with through-gusset plate is often used to transmit axial compression in an electric transmission towers. In current code, the strength of tubular member is evaluated with an effective length factor k=0.9 without considering the deformation of boundary element. A buckling strength of member with end gusset plate is affected by stiffness ratio($\beta$) and the length ratio(G) between main tubular member and end gusset plate. In this study theoretical mechanism based on the elastic buckling behavior was investigated, and finite element analysis was performed to propose a formula for the buckling strength and effective length factor of tubular member in elsatic and inelastic ranges.

  • Numerical studies were carried out to develop the moment magnifier method for long-term behavior of flat plates, subjected to combined in-plane compressive and transverse loads. Nonlinear finite element analyses were performed for the numerical studies. Through the numerical studies, the long term behavior of the flat plate subjected to uniform or nonuniform floor load was investigated, and creep effects on the degradation of strength and stiffness of the slabs were examined. As a result, the creep factor was implemented to describe the creep effect on the flat plate. The moment magnifier method using the creep factor was developed for long-term behavior of flat plates. Also, the design examples were shown for the verification of the proposed design method.

  • In order to study the characteristics of fiber reinforced bearing, the steel plates of laminated rubber bearing were replaced with fibers which have same effects of steel plates. The comparison of vertical test and horizontal test of laminated rubber bearing and fiber reinforced bearing shows that the effective damping of fiber reinforced bearing is higher than laminated rubber bearing. This result implies the high energy dissipation ability of fiber reinforced bearing under earthquake excitation. These fiber reinforced bearing can be applied to the low-coast building.

  • In the fabrication of dry adhesive structure, increasing contact-points or contact-area is the primary goal because the adhesive force grows in proportion to the contact-area. The simplest way to extend the contact surface is the fabrication by using soft materials. However, the column-array structure could confront the matting phenomenon which columns are stuck together. Therefore, we need a novel design to reduce the effective stiffness with adequate stiff materials like a gecko's setae. In this study, we propose a novel design for the dry adhesive structure. Moreover, we analyzed whether the adhesive structure conforms the rough surface sufficiently through finite element method adopted the non-bonding interaction as the body force. Also, we fabricated the novel structures via UV lithography and some techniques. In addition, we examined the adhesive force of the novel structures.
