Class III malocclusion or anterior crossbite is commonly seen in Asian. This problem is easily recognized by dentists and parents. During the primary dentition period, anterior crossbite with functional shift and deep overbite could develop to skeletal protrusive mandible. So, early and proper diagnosis of anterior crossbite which needs prompt treatment is important. These cases showed the early management of crossbite with functional shift in primary dentition using intraoral removable appliance resulting in improvement of intermaxillary relationship. And I analyzed the positional change and the dimensional change during treatment with lateral cephalometric x-ray analysis. Our patients showed vertical dimensional change of lower anterior facial height and clockwise rotation which results crossbite correction in 1 year of treatment period.

The aim of this study was to assess the spacing and crowding of the anterior teeth in the primary dentition in Hwaseong city. Photographs of the anterior segment of 237 children satisfied the criteria. The presence of primate spaces and developmental spaces was assessed by the proximal contacts. Physiologic spacing was observed in 47.3% and 38.0% of the cases in the upper and lower arches, respectively. 43.5% showed the presence of two-segment contact or crowded dentition. Physiologic spacing was observed more in boys than in girls. In the maxilla, primate space was more frequent than developmental space; however, in the mandible, the difference was low. In the maxilla, the space between the central incisor and the lateral incisor was more frequent than the space between both central incisors. In contrast, in the mandible, the space between both central incisors was more common than the space between the central and lateral incisors or between the lateral incisors and canine. The present study describes the tendency for anterior spacing and crowding in the primary dentition. Further longitudinal studies with a larger sample are needed. Dentists should consider these concepts of spacing or contact/crowding when performing full coronal restorations of primary anterior teeth.

Early treatment is recommended for class III malocclusion in the primary dentition, though it is difficult to diagnose correctly. It was recommended dental maturation can possibly be used to make a differential diagnosis of skeletal class III malocclusion. This study aimed to compare dental maturation of first molars in children with skeletal or non-skeletal class III malocclusion in the primary dentition and to determine if dental maturation could be used to make a differential diagnosis of class III malocclusion. Among the children visiting the department of pediatric dentistry in Pusan National University Dental Hospital for anterior crossbite in the primary dentition, 18 were categorized into the non-skeletal class III malocclusion and 34 into the skeletal class III malocclusion. Panoramic radiographs were used to make comparative analysis of dental age and the eruption rate of the first molars. The following results were obtained. No difference was found between chronologic and dental age by the skeletal features or gender, with the latter being older than the former (p < 0.05). The discrepancies in eruption rate of first molars were significantly different between skeletal (18.91%) and non-skeletal groups (16.53%) (p < 0.05). This result implies that maturation of the first molars might be used to make a differential diagnosis of class III malocclusion.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate skeletal and soft tissue changes that occur after using a facemask for treatment of skeletal class III malocclusion, and to assess the relapse pattern when no retention appliance was used. Fifteen skeletal class III malocclusion patients were treated with a facemask for an average of 12 months. No retention appliance was used during the 1 year follow-up period. Cephalograms were taken during pretreatment, posttreatment, and the 1 year follow-up. Cephalograms were traced, analyzed, and the results were compared between cephalograms. All patients showed significant sagittal skeletal changes after treatment, but they also showed a significant relapse during the 1 year follow-up period when no retention appliance was used. Despite the relapse, the sagittal skeletal changes that remained were still significant. Vertical skeletal change was also significant after treatment, but the total change was not significant after a 1 year follow-up due to relapse. In soft tissue changes, facial convexity and upper lip position improved after treatment and this change remained significant after the 1 year follow-up period. Facemask therapy is therefore an effective method for treatment of skeletal class III malocclusion, however, retention is imperative to maintain the treatment effect.

A certain width of attached gingiva is required to maintain gingival health The purpose of this study was to examine the dimensional changes in the width of attached gingiva and the depth of gingival sulcus among the deciduous, mixed and permanent dentitions and establish baseline information on the width of attached gingiva in Korean children. Eighty-eight children aged 4 to 14, who visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Samsung Medical Center, were selected and divided into 3 groups according to the periods of dentition: deciduous, mixed and permanent dentitions. The width of keratinized gingiva and the depth of gingival sulcus were measured in each group with a periodontal probe and the width of attached gingiva was determined. The width of attached gingiva in maxillary and mandibular first molars increased significantly with age after eruption in the permanent dentition (p<0.05). The sulcus depth significantly increased in newly erupted permanent teeth with narrower width of attached gingiva (p<0.05) in all of the experimented teeth with the exception of the mandibular central incisor during the transition period. The results suggest that the mean width of attached gingiva does not increase steadily from the deciduous to the permanent dentition.

In the field of pediatric dentistry, comparison and analysis of cephalogram values of children are important fir evaluation of growth and development, and are essential to evaluate the craniofacial form and growth pattern for early diagnosis of malocclusion. For this, cephalographic norm values are important, but not many studies on the primary dentition exist. To compare the past norm values of normal occlusion in the primary dentition with current norms, preschool children, 4 to 5 years of age, with normal occlusion in the primary dentition who visited our hospital were examined. Among these children, 46 children with normal facial form and developmental status were chosen for evaluation of cephalogram values. The following results were as follows: 1. For skeletal values, the angular values showed no significant differences between males and females, and the linear values were generally greater in males than females. 2. SNA was $81.3^{\circ}$, SNB was $76.6^{\circ}$ and ANB difference was $4.7^{\circ}$. 3. The ratio for Mandibular body length to Anterior cranial base length was 0.9 : 1 for both male and female and the ratio for posterior facial height to anterior facial height was 61.4 % for male, 62.0 % for female. 4. For dental values, IMPA was $84.2^{\circ}$ and UA to SN was $90.8^{\circ}$. 5. The upper lip to Ricketts esthetic line was positioned 2.6 mm anteriorly, and the lower lip to Ricketts esthetic line was positioned 2.5 mm anteriorly.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the palatal arch length, width and volume in the primary and permanent dentition. Samples were consisted of normal occlusion in the primary dentition(50 males and 50 females) and permanent dentition(43 males and 43 females). Their upper plaster casts were used and through 3-dimensional laser scanning(3D Scanner, DS4060, LDI, U.S.A.), cloud data, polygonization, section curve, loft surface and fit and horizontal plane were made for measuring the palatal arch length, width and volume(Surfacer 10.0, Imageware, U.S.A.). Correlation coefficients were calculated separately for males and females in each group(SPSS 10.0). The results were as follows : 1. Average distance from the fit plane to the points(tooth-tooth-palate) was greater in the permanent dentition than those of primary dentition. 2. Palatal volume was greater more than 3 times in the permanent dentition, especially it was greater in male compared to female with significance(p<0.05). 3. Palatal width of male was greater in the primary and permanent dentition but palatal length, only in the permanent dentition than that of female(P<0.05). 4. Correlation coefficients were statistically most significant between the palatal volume and size of posterior palatal width and total palatal length(r=0.401, r=0.450, r=0.678, r=0.654).
The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence of spaced, closed, and crowded primary dentitions by sex and arch in Korean children from Kanghwa, and to determine the frequency of the primate and developmental spaces. The differences in the mesiodistal crown diameters and the arch dimensions between the spaced, closed, and crowded primary dentitions were also evaluated. Dental casts of 102 preschool children (57 males and 45 females, aged $4{\sim}5$ years) were studied. The prevalence of spacing in the primary dentition was 63.2% In males and 57.8% in females. The frequency of spacing was greater in males than in females, and greater in the maxillary arch than in the mandibular arch. The crowns were significantly larger and the arches significantly narrower in closed and crowded dentitions than in those with spacing (p<0.05). The results showed that the prevalence of spacing was lower than that found in previous studies and the presence of spacing in the anterior region was related to the mesiodistal crown diameter and the intercanine width.

The prevalence of Class III malocclusion is approximately 5% in the Caucasian population, rising to as mush as 50% in the Japanese and Korean population. Recent studies have suggested than 63% of this malocclusion display maxillary retrusion. If left untreated, the malocclusion tends to worsen. Consequently, early treatment is commonly indicated to obtain a more normal jaw relationship. This report is 2 cases treated patients who diagnosed as skelectal Class III malocclusion due to deficient maxilla using facemask.
