This study develops and examines the validity of a Creativity Test for children from of 4 to 7. 47 items were constructed through the validity of the literature and expert's content validity. The results of this study consisted of 22 items with three factors. These factors are flow and independence, expansion of thinking, curiosity and openness. The tests scale was examined about item's response distribution, item's discrimination, and construct validity and internal consistency reliability, and it was adoptable. It can be concluded that the test tool developed in this study is suitable for measuring the creativity of Korean children from 4 to 7 years in a simple manner, and it measures relatively well the cognitive and affective characteristics of creativity. Creativity test tool for children from 4 to 7 years in this study will contribute to the active progress of research on creativity for young children and elementary school children.
The purpose of this study was to examine the difference of the father's and mother's reactions to their children's negative emotions, relations among the children's variables, parent's variables, and parent's reactions. The subjects selected were 183 mothers and 183 fathers with children aged three to five-years-old, from a childcare center and kindergarten in Kwang-ju. Parental emotion-related practices regarding children's negative emotions were assessed with an adaptation of the CCNES(Fabes et al, 1990) that was modified by Kim Hee-Jung(1994). Descriptives, Pearson's correlation coefficient, were used for data analysis by using the SPSS 15.0 program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, fathers and mothers used more positive reactions than negative reactions when their children showed negative emotions. The mothers were significantly higher than fathers on encouragement of expression, punitive, and distress reactions. Second, the children's age and gender, parent's age, level of education and income were negatively and positively correlated to the father's and mother's reactions to their children's negative emotions.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the young children's 'more means more' bias and knowledge change process regarding a lever phenomenon, especially the relationship between the weight of an object and the strength of force and between the length of a lever and the strength of force. Subjects, who were presented with the tasks, were eight young children 5 years of age. Major findings were as followings. First, most of the subjects have a 'more means more' bias about the relationship between the weight of an object and the strength of force and between the length of a lever and the strength of force regarding a lever phenomenon. This meant that young children have similar concepts about a lever phenomenon regardless of whether it is right or wrong physically. Second, young children tried to make sure of their knowledge during experiments. They chose the evidence which confirmed their knowledge. But they tried to change their knowledge, when the evidence presented did not correspond to their knowledge. These findings contribute to understanding young children's 'more means more' bias and knowledge change process about a lever phenomenon and can be used in preschool science education programs and curriculums.
Although listening to music is the most basic musical experience that is ahead of all the other musical activities, it tends to be neglected due to lack of awareness and difficult teaching methods. This study is to compose integrative music appreciation by reflecting thoughts of children, draw children's attention to listening to music, and let them to discover and create musical concept and structures by themselves, accompanied by related activities through which children can express their thoughts and feelings with children's poem. Considering the peculiarities of three-four year-olds, it may be difficult for them to create poems individually, so we let them to write poems through small group discussion in which they can share their opinions and observe their peers' reaction. We provided a teaching method to teachers who find activities of listening to music and writing poems difficult, then we analyzed the effect. When children finished writing poems in small groups through integrative music appreciation reflecting their thoughts, they placed greater weight on preparing to listen to music at first, but going through the program, they discovered musical concepts and became active in music appreciation. In the related activity, writing poems inspired them to think creatively, listening to their peer's stories. Even children who were not interested in children's poem showed higher participation. Teachers found children's creative words to be interesting, discovering the joy of creation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the research trend of robot education for young children and elementary students as a basic study for the development of hands-on robot program for young children. Trends by year, research contents, and effectiveness of 155 dissertations and journal papers from 2006 to May 2016 related to robot education for young children and elementary students were analyzed. The results were as follows. In the research subject, research was conducted in the order of integrated education, attitudes and awareness research, and response research for young children and programming education, design development research, and integrated education for elementary students. In the research method, observational research and development research were the most common in young children and elementary students, respectively. In the effectiveness validation, research on social and emotional interaction and research on creativity were the most common in young children and elementary students, respectively. Based on the results of this study, the analysis provided basic data for the development of programs for young children's hands-on robot activities and suggested the direction and implications of robot education in connection with SW education of young children and elementary students.
This study examined the effects of mothers' rejective parenting, emotional expressivity, children's emotional regulation strategy on their social withdrawal. Participants were 223 children(121 boys, 102 girls; recruited from classes with 4-5 year olds), their mothers and 20 child care teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the children's social withdrawal and emotional regulation strategies. Mothers reported their rejective parenting along with emotional expressivity. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's productive correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results showed that mothers' rejective parenting, children's venting/support seeking strategy and avoidance/non-responsive strategy had positive relation to, whereas mother's positive expressivity were negatively related to their social withdrawal. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of mother's rejective parenting and positive expressivity predicted children's social withdrawal. Mother's rejective parenting was associated with children's social withdrawal, especially for children with the lowest level of mother's positive expressivity. In addition, the association between mother's rejective parenting and children's social withdrawal were partially mediated by their venting/support seeking strategy.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching of pre-service early childhood teachers and their attitude toward science and science teaching efficacy belief. A total of 294 pre-service early childhood teachers responded to a questionnaire that examined their pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching, attitude toward science, and science teaching efficacy belief. The results of this study were as follows: First, teachers had average pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching. The groups of 3rd and 4th grades were significantly higher than the 2nd grade group. Second, the teachers' recognition was below average in attitude toward science and science teaching efficacy belief. The groups of 3rd and 4th grades were significantly higher than the 2nd grade group. Third, a meaningful statistical relationship was found between the pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching of pre-service early childhood teachers and their attitude toward science and science teaching efficacy belief. As the score of pre-service early childhood teachers in pedagogical content knowledge in science teaching became higher, the score in attitude toward science and science teaching efficacy belief became higher.
The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance of the safety and health ability to safely protect body in a risky situation in infancy, but due to the lack of a valid test tool for measuring infant safety knowledge, measure the safety and health knowledge of infants. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, opinions of education experts and early childhood education experts were collected, and suitable factors for measuring safety and health knowledge of children aged 3-5 years were extracted. The measurement questions developed based on this were surveyed on 186 children aged 3-5 years old to verify the relevance of the question composition and the reliability of the contents. In the distribution of the item response, values of 0.8 or less were deleted, and items with a correlation of r<.40 or less were also deleted, and the reliability test showed more than .70. After exploratory factor analysis, it was developed into 23 questions in 3 areas. The total score of safety and health knowledge for the final question and the degree of correlation were above .80. The tool for measuring child safety and health knowledge developed in this study was confirmed to be appropriate for item discrimination, item reliability, and content validity, and thus will be used as basic data for measuring child safety and health knowledge. After the early childhood safety and health education program is implemented, Further research should verify the effectiveness of the early childhood safety and health program.
