A Design and Implementation of EPCIS Repository for RFID and Sensor Data (RFID와 센서 데이터 처리를 위한 EPCIS 저장소 설계 및 구현)

  • In order to build up the ubiquitous computer environment, there are many researches on automatic identification, sensor networks, and home networks etc. EPCIS (EPC Information Services), which is proposed by EPCglobal, is a standard on the repository managing tag data that is needed to develop RFID application system. In this paper, the EPCIS repository is designed and implemented. It is able to search the object dependent upon general object recognition and environment information variation. And sensor data, which is also massive data and is changed with position, is integrated into RFID data in the system. By doing so, it is possible to do the convergence managements of object recognition with variations of USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) environment.

  • Nowadays, to realize ubiquitous computing environment, many research activities have been going on within various kinds of research domains including automatic identification sensor network, home network, telematics and so on. Especially, RFID middleware that supports the aggregation of RFID tag data, control and management, and the integration with legacy systems has recently gained a lot of attention. Meanwhile, EPCglobal defined an ALE(Application Level Events) standard specification, which exists between RFID readers and applications, and substitutes the previous systems called Savant. In the specification internal structures and implementation technologies of ALE are not mentioned and only external interfaces are defined. This approach easies the verification of standard compliance and inter-operability of the layer. In this paper, we present the design of ALE-compliant RFID middleware systems that process RFID tag data efficiently.

  • 최근, RFID 기술이 발전하면서 RFID의 활용분야는 유통 물류 시스템 중심에서 로봇이나 홈 네트워크 시스템과 같은 다양한 분야로 확대되고 있다. 이는, RFID태그와 RFID리더를 사용하여 객체의 정보를 빠르고 정확하게 검색 할 수 있기 때문이며, 이에 따라 RFID 네트워크를 이용하는 시스템의 효과적인 객체정보 추출을 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되어 왔다. 이와 관련하여, 본 논문에서는 RFID를 이용하는 시스템의 효과적인 객체정보 관리 시스템을 설계하고 개발하였다. 이는 RFID 네트워크 외부에 존재하는 RFID 게이트웨이와 RFID 네트워크를 구성하는 어플리케이션 서버, 변환 서버, 객체정보 서버로 구성된다.

Interconnection Scheme for Multiple Path Source Routing Protocol for Wireless Mobile Ad-hoc Network and Mobile-IP (무선 이동 애드-혹 네트워크를 위한 다중 경로 소스 라우팅 프로토콜과 Mobile-IP의 연동 기법)

  • As the research on home network technologies, sensor network technologies, and ubiquitous network technologies makes rapid progresses, wireless ad-hoc network have attracted a lot of attention. A wireless ad-hoc network is a temporary network formed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without the aid of my existing network infrastructure or centralized administration, and it is suitable for ubiquitous computing environments. In this paper, we suggest an interconnection scheme between the wireless ad-hoc network environment based on multiple path source routing protocol and a Mobile-IP based network environment. This scheme reduces the overhead of route re-establishment and re-registration by maintaining multiple paths between the mobile host in wireless ad-hoc network and the base station in mobile-IP network. Also it puts the base station in charge of function that performs translation between wireless ad-hoc network packets and Mobile-IP packets, reducing the load of mobile hosts. In this paper, our simulations show that our scheme outperforms existing interconnecting schemes with regards to throughput and end-to-end delay Also we show that our scheme outperforms multi-paths approach using disjoint routes with regards to routing overhead.

  • The paper presents an intelligent space management system for ubiquitous computing. The system is basically a home/office automation system that could control light, electronic key, and home appliances such as TV and audio. On top of these basic capabilities, there are four elegant features in the system. First, we can access the system using either a cellular Phone or using a browser on the PC connected to the Internet, so that we control the system at any time and any place. Second, to provide more human-oriented interface, we integrate voice recognition functionalities into the system. Third, the system supports not only reactive services but also proactive services, based on the regularities of user behavior. Finally, by exploiting embedded technologies, the system could be run on the hardware that has less-processing power and storage. We have implemented the system on the embedded board consisting of StrongARM CPU with 205MHz, 32MB SDRAM, 16MB NOR-type flash memory, and Relay box. Under these hardware platforms, software components such as embedded Linux, HTK voice recognition tools, GoAhead Web Server, and GPIO driver are cooperated to support user-friendly intelligent space.

  • The paper attempts to design and implement the system which can remotely check visitors' speech or Image by a mobile phone. This system is designed to recognize who a visitor is through the automatic calling service, not through a short message, via the mobile phone, even when the home owner is outside. In general, door locks are controlled through the home Server, but it is more effective to control door locks by using DTMF signal from a real-time point of view. The technology suggested in this paper makes it possible to communicate between the visiter and the home owner by making a phone call to tile home owner's mobile phone automatically when the visiter visits the house even if the home owner is outside, and if necessary, it allows for the home owner to control the door lock remotely. Thanks to the system, the home owner is not restricted by time or space for checking the visitor's identification and controlling the door lock. In addition, the security system is improved by changing from the existing password form to the combination of password and speaker verification lot the verification procedure required for controlling the door lock and setting the environment under consideration of any disadvantages which may occur when the mobile Phone is lost. Also, any existing problems such as reconnection to tile network for controlling tile door lock are solved by controlling the door lock in real time by use of DTMF signal while on the phone.

Reliable Extension Scheme using Multiple Paths in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks (무선 애드-혹 네트워크의 다중 경로를 이용한 신뢰적인 확장 기법)

A wireless mobile ad-hoc network is a temporary network formed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without the aid of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration, and it is suitable for ubiquitous computing environments. In this paper, we suggest an extension scheme of a wireless mobile ad-hoc network based on limited multiple paths source routing protocol. This scheme reduces the overhead of route re-establishment and re-registration by maintaining link/node non-disjoint multiple paths between mobile hosts in a wireless mobile ad-hoc network or a mobile host in a wireless mobile ad-hoc network and a base station supporting fixed network services. By maintaining multiple paths, our scheme provides short end-to-end delay and is reliable extension scheme of a wireless mobile ad-hoc network to a fixed network. In this paper, our simulations show that our scheme outperforms existing schemes with regards to throughput and end-to-end delay. Also we show that our scheme outperforms multi-paths approach using disjoint routes with regards to routing overhead.

  • A recent major development in computer technology is the advent of the wearable computer system that is based on human-centric interface technology trends and ubiquitous computing environments. Wearable computer systems can use the wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) that refers to USB technology that is merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC technical specifications. In this paper, we focus on an integrated system of the wireless USB over the IEEE 802.15.6 wireless body area networks (WBAN) for wireless wearable computer systems supporting U-health services. And a communication structure that can differentiate QoS of U-health WBAN and WUSB traffic with different priorities is proposed for WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 hierarchical protocol. In our proposal and performance evaluation, throughputs of U-health WBAN and WUSB traffic are analyzed under single and multiple QoS classes to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed QoS differentiating structure in WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6.

  • As quick and secure mobility service is becoming a critical issue in the ubiquitous environment. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has done a lot of meaningful work in order to cope with the critical issues, which is a key technology of guaranteeing the legally and safely using of network resources, they has proposed Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) to complement for such problems as handover latency and signaling overhead in existing MIPv6. Most of the current research about HMIPv6 focuses on how to optimize the interactive processes between the HMIPv6 and AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) protocol. This paper describes a cost-effective hierarchical authentication scheme, which makes its focus on minimizing the authentication latency in AAA processing. In this scheme, a hierarchical AAA architecture is proposed, in which the AAA servers are deployed on the Mobility Anchor Point (MAP), the Root AAA server manages several Leaf AAA servers and the Brokers on behalf of the AAA server in home domain. The simulation results shows that the proposed scheme reduces the handoff and authentication latency evidently compared to the previous traditional authentication combination modeling.

A Study on Implementation of Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot (유비쿼터스 홈 메스클린업 로봇의 구현에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot(UHMR), which has a practical function of the automatic mess-cleanup, is developed. The vacuum-cleaner had made the burden of house chore lighten but the operation labour of a vacuum-cleaner had been so severe. Recently, the cleaning robot was producted to perfectly solve the cleaning labour of a house but it also was not successful because it still had a problem of mess-cleaning, which was the clean-up of big trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. The cleaning robot is to just vacuum dust and small trash but has no function to arrange and take away before the automatic vacuum-cleaning. For this reason, the market for the cleaning robot is not yet built up. So, we need a design method and technological algorithm of new automatic machine to solve the problem of mess-cleanup in house. It needs functions of agile automatic navigation, novel manipulation system for mess-cleanup. The automatic navigation system has to be controlled for the full scanning of living room, to recognize the absolute position and orientation of tile self, the precise tracking of the desired path, and to distinguish the mess object to clean-up from obstacle object to just avoid. The manipulate,, which is not needed in the vacuum-cleaning robot, must have the functions, how to distinguish big trash to clean from mess objects to arrange, how to grasp in according to the form of mess objects, how to move to the destination in according to mess objects and arrange them. We use the RFID system to solve the problems in this paper and propose the reading algorithm of RFID tags installed in indoor objects and environments. Then, it should be an intelligent system so that the mess cleaning task can be autonomously performed in a wide variety of situations and environments. It needs to also has the entertainment functions for the good communication between the human and UHMR. Finally, the good performance of the designed UHMR is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.
