  • In a hot water extraction process, the flow pattern of upper region in a storage tank is a major reason of mixing between hot water and cold water. In this study, the temperature distribution in a storage tank was measured to predict the flow pattern of upper region, and the degree of stratification was analysed to the variables dominating a extraction process. And also, it was found that the degree of stratification improved expecially in a low flow rate in case of using modified distributor I(DMI) as a outlet port type.

  • To verify the effect of inner- and outer-stage gas jets, a shear coaxial injector was designed to analyze the axial velocity profile and breakup phenomenon with an increase in the measurement distance. When the measurement position was increased to Z/d=100, the axial flow showed a fully developed shape due to the momentum transfer, aerodynamic drag effect, and viscous mixing. An inner gas injection, which induces a higher momentum flux ratio near the nozzle, produces the greater shear force on atomization than an outer gas injection. Inner- and Outer-stage gas injection do not affect the mixing between the inner and outer gas flow below Z/d=5. The experiment results showed that the main effect of liquid jet breakup was governed by the gas jet of an inner stage. As the nozzle exit of the outer-stage was located far from the liquid column, shear force and turbulence breaking up of the liquid jets do not fully affect the liquid column. In the case of an inner-stage gas injection momentum flux ratio within 0.84, with the increase in the outer gas momentum flux ratio, the SMD decreases. However, at an inner-stage gas jet momentum flux ratio over 1.38, the SMD shows the similar distribution.

  • We investigated that how both the type and the concentration of coal and the surfactant and the electrolyte added to increase the fluidity of CWM influence rheological characteristics. According to the type of coal, the viscosity of CWM was increased with increasing O/C ratio. Also, the CWM was represented the property of non-Newtonian fluid, having yield stress which was linerarly increased with increasing coal concentration. According to the surfactant used as an additive, the rheological characteristics of CWM was represented the pseudoplastic property as n<1 without relating to the concentration of added surfactants. Also, according to the increase of the amount of electrolyte, n was nearly approached 1. Therfore, we found that CWM opproched Newtonian fluid and that when more than 0.05wt.% of electrolyte were added, yield stress was not shown up.

  • To investigate numerically the effects of geometry and location of vertical opening on the thermal and chemical fire characteristics in full-scale under-ventilated compartment fires, the ventilation factor ($A\sqrt{h}$) to estimate a theoretical maximum inflow of ambient air and the mass loss rate in a heptane pool fire were fixed for all cases. It was shown that variations in door geometry affected significantly the change in thermal and chemical characteristics inside the compartment. Variations in window location resulted in the complex change in additional fire characteristics including the fire duration time and recirculating flow structure. These results were analyzed in details by the multi-dimensional flow and fire characteristics including the vent flow and fuel/air mixing phenomena.

  • Present studies of these experiments was conducted to using water, over a range of cross-flow velocities from 42 to 136 m/s, with injection frequencies from 35.7 to 166.2 Hz. In cross-flow field, main parameters of liquid jet for secondary breakup were cross-flow drag rather than pressure pulse frequency. As oscillation of the periodic pressure, liquid jet was moved up and down. Also, a bulk of liquid jet puff was detected at upper field of liquid surface. Because of pressure pulsation frequency, an inclination of SMD for the structured layer was evanescent. Cross-sectional characteristics of SMD at downstream area were non-structured distributions. The tendency of volume flux value for various frequency of pressure pulse was same distribution. And volume flux was decreased when the frequency of pressure pulse increasing.

  • In this study, experimental investigations were conducted on NOx emission characteristics with fuel swirl flow in swirl combustor. Many types of vanes, which altered air and fuel swirl angles, were employed to verify the mixing processes. For strong air swirl, fuel counter-swirl resulted in relatively large turbulent intensity, high energy to the high frequency region and narrow width of high temperature region compared with co-swirl condition. These effects of fuel counter-swirl resulted in low NOx emission characteristics at strong air swirl condition. And NOx reduction mechanism was also discussed.

  • This study ascertained the possibility of use of sulfur abstracted from waste sulfur as a construction material through modification process and manufacturing high efficiency modification sulfur with superior quality on dispersibility and hydrophilic in normal temperature. Mechanic, behavior and chemical durability of mortar with added modification sulfur. The results of the study are as follows. The fluidity of mortar mixed with modification sulfur and compressive strength decreased as ratio of mixing of them increases. Flexural, tensile and bond strength of the mortar are also improved and shrinkage of it increases. Especially chemical durability of the mortar showed excellent resistance with the increase of ratio of mixing. Therefore this research has confirmed the modification sulfur can be used as a addmixture for cement.

  • The groundwater dependent ecosystem associated with a natural stream is the area where mixing and exchange of surface water and groundwater occurs due to large chemical and hydraulic gradients. Surface-groundwater interactions play an important role in biogeochemical processes in groundwater dependent ecosystems and make this area a hydro-ecological hot spot. The objective of this study is to characterize the groundwater dependent ecosystem in a natural stream where nitrate contamination of stream water is observed by means of hydrogeological, chemical, and biological methods. In this study, vertical flow exchange(hyporheic flow) rates between stream and groundwater were estimated based on vertical hydraulic gradients measured at mini-piezometers of various depths. To investigate the biological natural attenuation potential, biological analyses using polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-cloning methods were performed in this study. Results show that the veritical hyporheic water fluxes affect nitrate concentrations and bacterial densities in groundwater dependent ecosystems to some degree. Also, denitrifying bacteria were identified in hyporheic soils, which may support the biodegradation potential of the groundwater dependent ecosystems under certain conditions.

  • Gas and liquid flow characteristics were investigated in an internal circulation airlift reactor using a single nozzle for a gas distributor. In three reactors with different diameters of the downcomer and heights of the riser, the gas holdup in the individual flow zone and the impulseresponse curve of tracer for an air-water system were measured for various gas velocities and reactor heights. Experimental results showed that the flow behavior of bubbles in the riser was the slug flow due to strong coalescences of bubbles and that the bubble flow pattern in the downcomer was the transition bubble flow for the smaller diameter of the downcomer, however, it was the homogeneous bubble flow for the larger one. And mean gas holdups in the individual flow zone and the reactor were greatly increased with decreasing the diameter of the downcomer for the equal ratio of height of the top section to that of the riser. Also, the mixing time was much effected by the height of the top section of reactor and for the equal ratio of height of top section to that of the riser, it was increased with increasing the diameter of the downcomer and the height of the riser. Flow characteristics of liquid were mainly varied with the bubble flow pattern in the downcomer and the size of the top section of reactor. And circulation velocities of liquid in the riser were increased with increasing gas velocities and the size of the top section of reactor, and for the equal ratio of height of top section to that of the riser, they were increased with increasing the diameter of the downcomer and the height of the riser.

  • The key objective of this research is to review the effectiveness of spatial regression to identify the influencing factors of spatial distribution patterns of floating population. To this end, global and local spatial autocorrelation test were performed using seoul floating population survey(2014) data. The result of Moran's I and Getis-Ord $Gi^*$ as used in the analysis derived spatial heterogeneity and spatial similarities of floating population patterns in a statistically significant range. Accordingly, Geographically Weighted Regression was applied to identify the relationship between land use attributes and population floating. Urbanization area, green tract of land of micro land cover data were aggregated in to $400m{\times}400m$ grid boundary of Seoul. Additionally public transportation variables such as intersection density transit accessibility, road density and pedestrian passage density were adopted as transit environmental factors. As a result, the GWR model derived more improved results than Ordinary Least Square(OLS) regression model. Furthermore, the spatial variation of applied local effect of independent variables for the floating population distributions.
