  • Multi-layer organic electroluminescent(EL) devices with Al-CsF composite as a cathode were fabricated. This device privides low driving voltage and high quantum efficiency. CsF is evaporated onto and diffuse into electron transport layer. $Alq_3$. The Fermi level of $Alq_3$ moves towards the LUMO level.

전면 발광 OLED의 전기 광학적 특성 (Electrical and Optical Characteristics of Top-emission OLED)

  • 본 연구에서는 전면 유기 발광소자(TE-OLED)를 제작하여 전기 광학적 특성을 연구하였다. 전면 발광 OLED의 투명 전극으로 사용된 Al과 Ag의 박막 두께에 따른 투과율과 면저항값은 다음과 같이 나타났다. 파장 520nm의 기준으로 Al 금속 박막의 두께가 10nm 이하여야 50% 투과율을 보였고, 반면 Ag는 25nm 이하로 나타났다. 면저항값은 박막두께 20nm 기준으로 Al은 약 $40\Omega/\square$, Ag는 $10\Omega/\square$이하로 나타났다. 전면발광 방식의 시야각에 따른 빛의 세기는 cos $60^{\circ}$ 일 때 0.1로, TE-OLED는 시야각이 증가하였을 때 현저히 감소되는 것을 볼 수 있다. TE-OLED의 시야각의 증가에 따른 EL-peak 또한 약 520nm의 파장대에서 약 500nm으로 변화하였다. 전면 발광 방식의 반폭치(FWHM)는 배면 발광 방식 보다 약 32nm정도 좁게 나타났다.

  • 정보화 사회의 발전과 함께 멀티미디어에 대한 관심이 집중되고 있으며, 점유 공간이 작고 가벼우며 대면적이 가능한 정보 표시 디스플레이에 대한 기술은 고부가가치 산업으로 인식되어 지고 있다. 이러한 정보 표시 디스플레이들 중, 전기 발광 소자 (Electroluminescence Display : ELD), 액정 표시 디스플레이 (Liquid Crystal Display LCD), 플라즈마 디스플레이 (Plasma Display Panel) 등의 대한 연구가 세계적으로 매우 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 란탄 계열의 금속 착 화합물인 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen)과 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen-Cl)를 이용해 다비이스를 제작한후 광학적 및 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. 또한 luminous efficiency와 cyclic voltametric 방법을 이용해 에너지 밴드로 두 발광 물질인 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen)과 Tb(ACAC)$_3$(Phen-Cl)을 비교.분석하였다. 본 연구의 디바이스 구조를 보면 anode/hole transporting layer (HTL)/emitting material layer (EML)/electron transporting layer (ETL)/cathode와 같고 ETL를 aluminum-tris- (8-hydroxyquinoline) (Alq$_3$)와 bis(10-hydroxybenzo(h)quinolinato)beryllium (Bebq$_2$)를 사용하였으며 HTL 로 N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD)를 사용하였다.

유기 EL 보호층으로 적용하기 위한 무기 복합 박막의 투습율 특성 연구 (Study on the Water Vapor Permeation Properties of the Inorganic Thin Composite Film for the Passivation Layer in the OLED)

  • In this study, we investigated the WVTRs Properties of inorganic thin composite films(ITCFs) to be newly adopted as the passivation layer of the OLED to replace the inorganic compound material Because we thought that inorganic compound materials were limited to enhance the barrier property of thin film. So, ITCFs were fabricated by mixing the cooperated material with the base material. And then, ITCFs were deposited onto the plastic substrate using the electron beam evaporation system and the water vapor transmission rates(WVTRs) were measured using the Mocon equipment. As a result of the WVTR measurement, we could analyze the WVTR values for various ITCFs. ITCFs had a remarkably lower value than the inorganic compound film. Through the analysis of thin film, we can understand the crystal structure and mixed amount. Therefore, ITCFs can be used as the inorganic passivation layers of OLED with the inorganic compound film.

Al:Au 음극층을 이용한 양면발광(dual emission) 유기 EL 소자의 Al 두께별 특성 평가 (Characterization of Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) with Dual Emission using Al:Au Cathode)

  • The Al:Au double-layer metal electrode for use in transparent, dual emission of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) was fabricated. The electrode of Al:Au metals with various thicknesses was deposited by the vacuum thermal evaporation technique. For Al thickness of 1 nm, a bottom luminance of $4880\;cd/m^2$ was observed at 8 V. Otherwise, top luminance of $2020\;cd/m^2$ were observed at 8 V. In addition, the threshold voltages of the electrodes were 2.2 V. It was forward that the inserting 1 nm Al between LiF and Au enhanced electron injection with tunneling effect.

유기물 적층 구조에 따른 유기 발광 소자의 발광 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Emission Properties of Organic Electroluminescence Device by Various Stacked Organics Structures)

  • In this paper, the single and double heterostructure organic light-emitting devices(OLEDs) were fabricated. The single heterostructure OLED(TYPE 1) is consisted of TPD as a HTL(hole transfer layer) and Alq$_3$as an EML(emitting layer). The double heterostructure OLED(TYPE 2) is consisted of TPD as a HTL, Alq$_3$as an EML and PBD as an ETL(electron transfer layer). The another double heterostructure OLED(TYPE 3) is consisted of TPD as a HTL, PBD as an EML and Alq$_3$as an ETL. We obtained a strong green emission device with maximum EL emission wavelength 500nm in TYPE 3. When the applied voltage was 12V, the emission luminescence was 120.9cd/㎡. The chromaticity index of TYPE 3 was x=0.29, y=0.50. In the characteristic plot of current-voltage, TYPE 3 device was turned on at 6.9V. This voltage was a fairly low turn-on voltage. TYPE 1 and 2 device were turned on at 10V and 8.9V respectively. These types showed no good properties over that of TYPE 3.

플렉시블 유기 EL 소자를 위한 초박막 보호층 (Ultra Thin Film Encapsulation for Flexible OLED)

  • In this research, an organic thin 13 passivation layer was newly adopted to prefect the organic layer from ambient moisture and oxygen. As the organic thin film passivation layer, poly methyl methacrylate thin films (ppMMA) were deposited using a plasma polymerization technique. In order to their passivation performance for OLEDs, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the ppMMAs were analyzed and luminance-current-voltage (L-I-V)/luminance-time (L-T) characteristics of the OLEDs with and without ppMMA passivation layer were investigated. The OLEDs had a structure of ITO/TPD (HTL)/Alq3(EML&ETL)/Al. The OLED with ppMMA passivation layer showed improved L-T performance than that of without ppMMA passivation layer.

  • In this paper, new luminescent material, 6,11-dihydoxy-5,12-naphtacene-dione Alq3 complex (Alq2-Ncd), 1,4-dihydoxy-5,8-naphtaquinone Alq3 complex(Alq2-Nq) was synthesized. And extended efforts had been made to obtain high-performance electroluminescent(EL) devices, since the first report of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDS) based on tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum(Alq3). We have performed investigate characterization of the materials. Current-voltage characteristics, luminance-voltage characteristics and luminous efficiency were measured by Flat Panel Display Analysis System(Model 200-AT) at room temperature. An intensive research is going on to improve the device efficiency using the hole injection layer, different electrodes, and etc. By using the hole injection layer, the charge-injection can be controlled and the stability could be improved. This study indicates not only the sterical effect but also some other effects would be responsible for the change of the emission wavelength.

  • In this work, impedance Spectroscopic analysis was applied to study the effect of plasma treatment on the surface of indum-tin oxide (ITO) anodes using $O_2$ gas and to model the equivalent circuit for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with the $O_2$ plasma treatment of ITO surface at the anodes. This device with ITO/TPD/Alq3/LiF/Al structure can be modeled as a simple combination of a resistor and a capacitor. The $O_2$ plasma treatment on the surface of ITO shifts the vacuum level of the ITO as a result of which the barrier height for hole injection at the ITO/organic interface is reduced. The impedance spectroscopy measurement of the devices with the $O_2$ plasma treatment on the surface of ITO anodes shows change of values in parallel resistance ($R_p$) and parallel capacitance ($C_p$).

전도성 고분자를 전극으로 한 유기 전기발광 소자의 제작 및 특성 (Fabrication and Characteristics of Organic EL Devices using Conducting Polymer as an Electrode)

  • A water-soluble conducting polymer (CPP400 Paste) containing a derivative of polythiophene with several dopant was investigated as an anode material for organic electroluminescent devices. The device of ITO/CPP 400 Paste/TPD/$Alq_3$/Li:Al was fabricated, where CPP 400 Paste films were prepared by spin coating and TPD and $Alq_3$, films were prepared by vacuum evaporation. It was found that the turn-on voltage, current density, and luminance of the devices were dependent upon the thickness of CPP 400 Paste film in the Electroluminescent and current-voltage characteristics of the devices. This phenomena were explained by the energy level diagram of the device with the energy levels of the CPP400 Paste obtained by cyclic voltammetric method.
