  • In recent years, indoor localization has been researched for the improvement of its localization accuracy capability in Wi-Fi environment. The fingerprint and RF propagation models has been the main approach in determining indoor positioning. With the use of fingerprint, a low-cost, versatile localization system can be achieved without the use of external hardware. However, only a few research have been made on virtual access points (VAPs) among indoor localization models. In this paper, the idea of indoor localization system using fingerprint with the addition of VAP in Wi-Fi environment is discussed. The idea is to virtually add APs in the existing indoor Wi-Fi system, this would mean additional virtually APs in the network. The experiments of the proposed algorithm shows the positive results when 2VAPs are used compared with only APs. A combination of 3APs and 2VAPs in the 3rd case had the lowest average error of 3.99 among its 4 scenarios.

  • An algorithm is proposed for estimating axle loads of trucks moving over a bridge by measuring dynamic responses. The bridge was modeled by a beam structure in the current applications of the proposed algorithm. Among the state vectors, measured acceleration was used and displacement was computed from measured strain at the same location. Nodal force vectors were computed by using a ready-made database of equivalent nodal force transformation matrix. The algorithm was examined through simulation studies and laboratory experiments. The effects of measurement noise and velocity error were investigated through simulation studies.

  • Relative positioning technique by GPS that can obtain the high positioning accuracy has been used for generation of high precision positioning with elimination or the reduction of the common errors. This paper gives some algorithms for RTK and considers the filter to estimate the positioning information and integer ambiguities at each epoch in the whole algorithms. The extended kalman filter has been employed to estimate the state parameters and the modified LAMBDA to resolve the integer ambiguities. The data processing was performed by GPS single frequency and dual frequency in short baseline. The verification procedure of these positioning compared with results from Bernese 5.0 software. We presented some statistic values on positioning errors and the rates of integer ambiguity resolution.

  • This paper proposes a method that utilizes optimization approach for localization of an indoor mobile robot. Bayesian filters which have been widely used for localization of a mobile robot use many control parameters to take the uncertainties in measurement and environment into account. The estimation performance depends on the selection of these parameter values. Also, the performance of the Bayesian filters deteriorate as the non-linearity of the motion and measurement increases. On the other hand, the optimization approach uses fewer control parameters and is less influenced by the non-linearity than the Bayesian methods. This paper compares the localization performance of the proposed method with the performance of the extended Kalman filter to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. Measurements of ranges from beacons of ultrasonic satellite to the robot are used for localization. Mahalanobis distance is used for detection and rejection of outlier in the measurements. The optimization method sets performance index as a function of the measured range values, and finds the optimized estimation of the location through iteration. The method can improve the localization performance and reduce the computation time in corporation with Bayesian filter which provides proper initial location for the iteration.

  • Recently, an RSSI-based fingerprinting localization technology has been widely used in indoor location-based services. In the conventional fingerprinting method, as many APs as possible are used to increase the accuracy of location estimation. In another study, a part of APs having the strongest RSSI signal intensity are selected and used to reduce the time spent for positioning. However, it does not reflect the influence of RSSI occurred from the changes of the surrounding environments such as human movement or moving obstacles in a real environment. The environmental changes may cause the difference between the predicted RSSI signal strength value and the measured value, and thus occur an unpredictable error in the position estimation. Therefore, in order to mitigate the error caused by environmental factors, it is necessary to select APs suitable for indoor positioning estimation considering the changes in the surrounding environments. In this paper, we propose a method to select stable APs considering the influence of surrounding environments and derive a suitable positioning algorithm. In addition, we compare and analyze the performance of the proposed method with that of the existing AP selection methods through experiments.

  • In general, several moving regions with different motions coexist in a block located on motion boundaries in the block-based motion estimation. In this case the motion compensation error(MCEs) are different with the moving regions. This is inclined to deteriorate the quality of motion compensated images because of the inaccurate motions estimated from the conventional mean absolute error(MAE) based matching function in which the matching error per pixel is accumulate throughout the block. In this paper, we divided a block into the regions according to their motions using the motion information of the spatio-temporally neighboring blocks and calculate the average MCF for each moving mentioned. From the simulation results, we showed the improved performance of the proposed method by comparing the results from other methods such as the full search method and the edge oriented block matching algorithm. Especially, we improved the quality of the motion compensated images of blocks on motion boundaries.

  • It is well known that point positioning using a C/A-code receiver is severely biased by errors in pseudorange. This paper shows the procedures of quantitive analysis for several error elements and that some methods to monitor SA(selective availability) of witch process is not opened are proposed. It is possible to verify the effects of SA in the Doppler shift and receiver clock drift variation. Easy methods to reduce SA effects are to fit second order polynomials for the one and a linear function for the other. With periodic autocorrelation functions. SA effects are analyzed and first order Gauss-Markov process parameters are decided.

  • This paper proposes the location estimation techniques of distributed targets with the multi-sensor data perceived through IR sensors of the military robots. In order to match up targets with measured azimuths, we apply the maximum likelihood (ML), depth-first, and breadth-first tree search algorithms, in which we use the measured azimuths and the number of pixels on IR screen for pruning branches and selecting candidates. After matching up targets with azimuths, we estimate the coordinate of each target by obtaining the intersection point of the azimuths with the least square error (LSE) algorithm. The experimental results show the probability of missing target, mean of the number of calculating nodes, and mean error of the estimated coordinates of the proposed algorithms.

  • Knowledge of camera parameters, such as position, orientation and focal length, is essential to 3D information recovery or virtual object insertion. This paper analyzes the error sensitivity of focal length due to position error of feature points which are employed for self-calibration. We verify the dependency of the focal length on the distance from the principal point to feature points with simulations, and propose a criterion for feature selection to reduce the error sensitivity.
