A Study on the Adaptation to Korean College life of Uzbekistan Students' (재한 우즈베키스탄 유학생들의 한국 대학생활 적응에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out for the purpose of investigating Uzbekistan students's adaptation to Korea college life. Qualitative interviews were conducted in regards to the motivation for college entrance and stresses incurred during college life for 10 Uzbekistan students who were studying at I college located in Incheon. Data from the interviews were analyzed using theme analysis method. Most of the participants in this study got information about Korean colleges through their overseas study exhibitions in their own countries and became Korea college. The results showed that the reasons for college enrollment were (1)preparation for future goals (2)the influence of family. In Uzbekistan, parents play a big role in determining their children's education. Therefore, their decision to study abroad and the role of their parents were significant. The stress they experienced in college life fell into five categories, namely, (1)financial stress (2)stress about studies (3) stress in regards to human relationships (4)stress in regards to their futures and getting a job. In addition, this study discussed how to solve such as problems experienced by Uzbekistan students. And also the role of college and the necessity of providing appropriate support programs were discussed. Finally, the implications of these findings were presented.

Large Firms and M&A Trends in the Digital Transformation Era: Implications for Productivity (디지털 전환 시대의 지배적 기업과 인수합병: 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • Despite the recent rapid advancement of science and technology, we have been experiencing the decline in productivity since the 2000s. This study aims to investigate the decline at both industry and firm levels, by looking at the emergence and growth of large firms such as Amazon, Alphabet, and Apple and M&A trends. Following the results of previous studies, our results show that productivity at industry level has decreased since the 2000s. Particularly, in the period after 2011, the deterioration of allocative efficiency due to the large firms and the decline in the growth rate of surviving firms in the industry with low ratio of large firms contributed to the productivity decline. On the other hand, our analysis at firm level demonstrates that the productivity of firms that acquired IT firms improved over the entire period. While M&As have a positive impact on productivity, M&As with a demand-side motive such as market penetration and expansion of channels have a relatively larger impact than the ones for production or operation efficiency. Our results also suggest that the higher the proportion of large firms in a specific industry, the lower the productivity of individual firms in the same industry. Overall, given that the industry's structural changes for digital transformation tends to strengthen the growth of large firms, our findings have significant implications by empirically identifying the relationships of the emergence of large firms, the acquisition of IT/Non-IT firms, and motivations for M&As to firm/industry productivity.

Level of perception of changed lip protrusion and asymmetry of the lower facial height (하안면부에서 입술의 돌출 정도와 안면 비대칭의 인지도에 관한 연구)

  • Objective: While one of the most prevailing motivations for seeking orthodontic treatment is to achieve good facial esthetics, understanding the level of a person's perception to the changes that have occurred on the face after orthodontic treatment is critical to the process of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Methods: 40 students attending art school participated in determining the level of their perception of changed lip position and facial asymmetry. Computer-graphic frontal face and facial profile photographs with balanced proportions were used to evaluate the level of a participant's perception of the changes in facia! asymmetry and in lip position. Results: Change of lip position over 2 mm and over a 3 mm change of facial asymmetry was perceived significantly. Conclusion: The results indicated that at least a 2 mm change of lip position was needed to be perceived after orthodontic treatment. The level of perception of the change in facial asymmetry was lower than that of the change in lip position. Information about facial changes given prior to the evaluation enhanced the level of perception.

  • This paper study about an unscented Kalman filter with a variety type of unscented transformation to estimate state values for speed control without position sensor of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor. The principles of an unscented transformation and unscented Kalman filter are examined and their application is explained. Generally the mapping process can be divided into two type, such as a basic and a general form according to a scaling parameter. And computation time, the number of samples, and weights about samples are different from each other. But, there is no little information on the scaling parameter value how this value influences the system performance. Simulation and experimental results show the validity of the designed unscented transformation performance with the various scaling parameter values for sensorless motor drive.

  • In Korea, the "Act on Emergency Medical Care" was enacted in 1994, which was a trigger for first aid training. Currently, first aid training including AED for the general public is done, but the actual use of AED is not enough. The reason for this is that there may be a problem with non-uniform BLS training. The personal and social factors that hinder the intent for AED use were identified through previous studies and applied to BLS training improvement. As a result, 200 subjects (41.6%), who had no intention to use AED, among a total of 481 subjects, were reduced to 43 subjects (8.9%) after receiving the improved BLS training. As a detailed method to increase the intention of using AED, the need for AED location training was highest after the training. Based on this, it is important to convey accurate contents in AED training and the training for location awareness of AED should be done at the same time.

  • In this paper, we focus on how to calibrate multi-cameras easily and how to efficiently detect quad-copters with small-numbered particles. Each particle is a six dimensional vector that is composed of 3D position and 3D orientation of a quad-copter in the space. Due to curse of dimensionality, that leads to explosive computational costs with a large amount of high-dimensioned particles. To detect efficiently, we need to put more particles in very promising spaces and few particles in other spaces. Though computational cost is lowered by minimizing particles, in order to track a quad-copter with multiple cameras in real-time, multiple images from the cameras should be synchronized and analyzed. Therefore, lots of the computations still need to be done. Because of this, GPGPU(General-Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units) is implemented for parallel computing. This method has been successfully tested and gives accurate results in practical situations.

  • This paper studies particularly applicable method for sensorless PM BLDC motor drive system. The waveform of the motor internal voltages(or back emf) contains a fundamental and higher order frequency harmonics. Therefore the third harmonic component is extracted from the stator phase voltage. The resulting third harmonic signal keeps a constant phase relationship with the rotor flux for any motor speed and load condition. Also because of low resolution of estimated signal obtained by the proposed sensorless algorithm, to improve the wide range of speed response characteristic more exactly, we propose the rotor position signal synthesizer using PLL circuit based on estimated signals. Some experimental results are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.

  • Recently as the environmental noise getting influential social problem, it is the fact that the demand on noise reduction increases with the advance of the standard of living. Therefore increasing the interest on the noise in common, it is eagerly demanded that the endeavour for reducing the noise of the rotating machinery, especially the machinery related a flowing including the household electric products, which is pointed out the primary noise source in environment. As proceeding study for fan noise, theory of fan noise property is arranged and this control method is shown. Blade passage noise of total noise spectrum. Thus in the aspect of noise reduction, noise source and identification of noise radiation characteristics of axial flow fan are demanded in detail. The sound source is analyzed by using sound pressure and sound intensity. In that time, synchronization of axial flow fan using optical sensor is executed, and to identify the location of exact noise source in the fan profile determination of recording time is proposed. In the rotating of tan, it is explained that the location of noise source exists in and by the directivity, the noise radiation pattern of axial flow fan is determined and the flow of sound is visualized in the figure of contour mapping.

  • In this paper, we propose a ultrasonic and RF-based indoor localization system. In previous work, various systems were proposed for indoor localization, but they have limitation in applicability due to time-synchronization, complexity, or accuracy. To overcome such problems, an indoor localization system with ultrasonic and RF is proposed. A transmitting system is composed of a pair of ultrasonic and RF transmitters and the receiving system is composed of multiple ultrasonic receivers and one RF receiver. The theoretical performance limitation is also analyzed. To verify localization performance, we have implemented a receiving systems and a transmitting system using Arduino modules. Experiments were performed in $2m{\times}2m{\times}2m$ space and the localization errors had a mean of 6.1cm and a standard deviation of 1.6cm.

Construction of Static 3D Ultrasonography Image by Radiation Beam Tracking Method from 1D Array Probe (1차원 배열 탐촉자의 방사빔추적기법을 이용한 정적 3차원 초음파진단영상 구성)

  • This paper describes the construction of a static 3D ultrasonography image by tracking the radiation beam position during the handy operation of a 1D array probe to enable point-of-care use. The theoretical model of the transformation from the translational and rotational information of the sensor mounted on the probe to the reference Cartesian coordinate system was given. The signal amplification and serial communication interface module was made using a commercially available sensor. A test phantom was also made using silicone putty in a donut shape. During the movement of the hand-held probe, B-mode movie and sensor signals were recorded. B-mode images were periodically selected from the movie, and the gray levels of the pixels for each image were converted to the gray levels of 3D voxels. 3D and 2D images of arbitrary cross-section of the B-mode type were also constructed from the voxel data, and agreed well with the shape of the test phantom.
