  • The effects of the wall geometry on the spray-wall impingement process of a hollow-cone fuel spray emerging from a high-pressure swirl injector of the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine were investigated by means of a numerical method. The ized Instability Sheet Atomization (LISA) & Aerodynamically Progressed Taylor Analogy Breakup (APTAB) model for spray atomization process and the Gosman model were applied to model the atomization and wall impingement process of the spray. The calculation results of spray characteristics, such as a spray development process and a radial distance after wall impingement, compared with the experimental ones by the Laser Induced Exciplex Fluorescence (LIEF) technique. It was found that the radial distance of the cavity angle of 90$^{circ]$ after wall impingement was the shortest and the ring shaped vortex was generated near the wall after spray-wall impingement process.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the average droplet size distributions of a GDI spray by simultaneous fluorescence/scattering image technique. GDI engine is recently very popular because of high engine efficiency and low emissions. However, the injectors must have good spray characteristics because the fuel is directly injected into the cylinder. The fuel mixtures used in this study were 2% of fluorobenzene, 9% of DEMA(diethyl-methyl-amine) and 89% of hexane by volume. The system for obtaining 2-D fluorescence/scattering images of fuel spray was constituted of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and an ICCD camera. Using the ratio of the fluorescence to the scattering intensities, SMD distributions were obtained. SMD measured by the technique was compared with that obtained by PDA. It was found that average droplet size was bigger at spray center in the early stage of injection and at the outer periphery of the spray in the late stage of injection.

  • 분사조건과 주위기체 압력에 따라 스월 인젝터의 분무각과 분열길이를 측정함으로써, 스월 인젝터의 분무 및 분열특성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 분사조건으로 축방향 We 수(Wel)를 1554까지 주위기체 압력을 4.0MPa까지 증가시켰다. Wel과 주위기체 밀도(ρ)가 증가함에 따라 공기역학적 힘이 증가하여 원추형 액막 표면의 교란이 증가하게 되고, 따라서 분열이 빨리 일어난다. 결과에 따르면 주위기체 밀도에 따른 분무각의 변화가 분열이 일어나기 전과 후가 다르게 나타났다. 분열이전에는 분무각이 주위기체 밀도 변화에 관계없이 거의 일정하였으나, 분열이 일어나게 되면 분무각이 감소하게 된다. 또한 측정된 분열길이를 선형불안정이론과 비교해 보았는데, 액막두께의 감쇠를 고려한 수정된 이론이 측정결과와 상당히 유사한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Numerical analysis about atomization and wall impingement process of hollow-cone fuel spray is performed by a modified KIVA code with hybrid model. The atomization process is modeled by using hybrid breakup model that is composed of Linearized Instability Sheet Atomization(LISA) model and Aerodynamically Progressed Taylor Analogy Breakup(APTAB) model. The Gosman model, which is based on the droplet behaviors after impingement determined by experimental correlations, is used for spray-wall impingement process. The LIEF technique was used to compare the results with those of experiment. The calculations and experiments are carried out at the ambient pressures of 0.1 MPa and 0.5 MPa and the ambient temperature of 293K. It was found that the calculated results show satisfactory agreement with experimental ones.

발사체 충격 방식을 사용한 초음속 액체 제트의 과도 분무 형상에 관한 연구 (Transient Spray Structures of Supersonic Liquid Jet Injected by Projectile Impact Systems)

  • The effects of projectile impact system on the transient spray characteristic which is supersonic liquid tip velocity were studied by experimentally. Supersonic liquid jets were generated by impact of a high speed projectile driven by a Two-stage light gas gun. A high speed camera and schlieren optical system were used to capture the spray structures of the supersonic liquid jets. In a case of nozzle assembly Type-A, expansion gases accelerate a projectile which has a mass of 6 grams from 250 m/s at the exit of the launch tube. Accelerated projectile collides with the liquid storage part, then supersonic liquid jets are injected with instantaneous spray tip velocity from 617.78 m/s to 982.54 m/s with various nozzle L/d. However, In a case of nozzle assembly Type-B which has a heavier projectile (60 grams) and lower impact velocity (182 m/s), an impact pressure was decreased. Thus the liquid jet injected at 210 m/s of the maximum velocity did not penetrate a shock wave and fast break-up was occurred. Pulsed injection of liquid column generated second shock wave and multiple shock wave.

  • Understanding the fundamental characteristics of supersonic hydrogen jets is important for the optimization of combustion in hydrogen engines. Previous studies have used helium as a surrogate gas to characterize the hydrogen jet characteristics due to potential explosion risks of hydrogen. It was based on the similarity of hydrogen and helium jet structures in supersonic conditions that has been confirmed using hole-type injectors and large-cone-angle pintle-type injectors. However, the validity of using helium as a surrogate gas has not been examined for recent small-cone-angle pintle-type injectors applied to direct-injection hydrogen engines, which form a supersonic hollow cone near the nozzle and experience the jet collapse downstream. Differences in the physical properties of hydrogen and helium could alter the jet development characteristics that need to be investigated and understood. This study compares supersonic jet structures of hydrogen and helium injected by a small-cone-angle (50°) pintle-type hydrogen injector and discusses their differences and related mechanisms. Jet penetration length and dispersion angle are measured using the Schlieren imaging method under engine-like injection conditions. As a result, the penetration length of hydrogen and helium jets showed a slight difference of less than 5%, and the dispersion angle showed a maximum of 10% difference according to the injection condition.

  • 고압관, 가압관, 발사관으로 구성된 Ballistic Range의 일종인 2단식 경가스 총을 사용하여 초음속 액체 제트의 분무 특성을 연구하였다. 135 bar의 압축공기는 고압관과 가압관 사이에 OHP필름으로 구성된 격막을 파열시킨 후 가압관의 발사체를 약 250 m/s의 속도로 가속하였다. 가속된 발사체는 액체 저장부에 충돌하여 액체를 초고압으로 가압한 후 초음속으로 분사시키며, 특히 초음속 액체 제트는 미립화된 다중 제트의 형태를 나타내고 액체 제트 전방 영역에서 충격파를 수반한다. 다양한 분사 노즐의 기하학적 형상에 대한 분무시험결과 초음속 액체 제트의 속도와 충격파 각도가 각각 다르게 생성되었으며, L/d가 9.9, 11.9, 23.8의 조건에 대하여 L/d가 23.8의 경우에 액체 제트의 분사속도가 마하수 1.53으로 가장 낮게 측정되었다.

분무각이 다른 GDI인젝터에 대한 증발특성 (Vaporizing Characteristics of Spray from Two Different GDI Injectors)

  • Vaporizing characteristics of two GDI injectors with different spray angles were investigated using exciplex fluorescence method. Injector I has narrower spray angle, while injector II has wider one. The exciplex system of fluorobenzene and DEMA in a non-fluorescing base fuel of hexane was employed. In quantifying concentration of fuel vapor, quenching of concentration and temperature was corrected. Droplet size and velocity were also measured by PDPA under non-vaporizing condition. From obtaining the images of liquid and vapor phases, vaporizing GDI sprays could be divided as two regions: cone and mixing regions. For injector I, vortex region was not developed. High concentration of fuel vapor due to vaporization of many fine droplets was distributed near the spray axis. For injector II, droplets with the diameter of about 10 $\mu$m were distributed in the vortex region. The vortex region had high concentration of fuel vapor due to vaporization of these droplets. Particularly, higher and lower concentrations of fuel vapor were balanced at 2ms after the start of injection for injector II.

차량소독장치용 노즐형태와 분무기의 적정토출압력에 관한 연구 (Study on Nozzle Type and Proper Discharge Pressure of Sprayer for Vehicle Disinfecting System)

  • 본 연구는 현재 우리나라에서 이뤄지고 있는 차량소독방법의 미흡한 점을 개선하여 국내 축산농가에서 지속적으로 발생하고 있는 각종 전염병을 차단할 수 있는 소독시스템을 개발하는데 필요한 노즐형태와 동력분무기의 적정토출압력을 구명하기 위해 실시되었다. 실험은 2012년 1월 10일부터 2012년 2월 28일까지 진행되었고, 모든 성능실험은 5회 반복으로 측정하였으며, 실험대상은 A사, B사, C사의 제품을 사용했다. 각 회사별 제품에 대해 분무량, 분무각, 피복면적비, 노즐별 분무압력을 측정한 결과, 분무량, 분무각, 피복면적비는 분무기 토출압력이 증가함에 따라 증가하였다(p<0.05). 위 결과와 각 제품의 노즐 위치별 분무량, 분무각, 피복면적비를 측정한 결과를 종합해봤을 때, 노즐의 형태는 부채꼴형 노즐 보다 원추형 노즐의 성능이 우수한 것으로 판단되었으며, 피복면적비를 고려했을 때 분무기의 적정토출압력은 20kg/㎠ 정도면 충분할 것으로 판단되었다.
