Design of a Logistics Decision Support System for Transportation Mode Selection considering Carbon Emission Cost (탄소배출비용을 고려한 물류의 최적 운송수단 의사결정 시스템 설계)

  • This paper considers logistics decision support system which deals with transportation mode selection considering transportation and carbon emission cost. Transportation and carbon emission costs vary with the choice of transportation modes and to become competitive companies need to find proper transportation modes for their logistics services. However, due to the restricted capacity of transportation modes, it is difficult to balance transportation and carbon emission costs when designing logistics network including transportation mode choice for each service. Therefore this paper aims to analyze the trade-off relationship between transportation and carbon emission cost in mode selection of intermodal transportation and to provide optimal green logistics strategy. In this paper, the logistics decision support system is designed based on mixed integer programming model. To understand the trade-off relationship of transportation and carbon emission cost, the system is tested with various scenarios including transportation of containers between Seoul and Busan. The analysis results show that, even though sea transportation combined with trucking is competitive in carbon emission per unit distance travelled, the total cost of carbon emission and transportation for the sea transportation may not have competitive advantage over other transportation modes including rail and truck transportation modes. The sea-based intermodal logistics service may induce detours which have negative impacts on the overall carbon emission. The proposed logistics decision support system is expected to play key role in green logistics and supply chain management.

  • 물류활동에서 운송부분이 차지하는 중요성은 기업의 경영자층에게 더욱 중요하게 인식되고 있는데, 이는 경쟁 환경 때문이다. 경쟁환경에서는 'Output Logistic' 즉, 운송활동의 수행정도에 따라 물류활동의 성패가 결정된다. 따라서 기업물류활동의 근간인 운송활동의 주요 결정요인과 선택형태를 알아보고, 이들이 실제로 기업의 물류활동에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는지를 심층적으로 분석해보는 것도 매우 의미 있는 일이라 하겠다. 더구나 우리 나라의 현재의 경제여건에서는 물류비에 대한 효율화 작업이 필요한데 반해 그 동안의 연구들을 살펴보면 SP 자료를 이용한 가상적 상황하에서의 화주의 선택행태를 분석하였으므로 실제 선택한 수단간의 gap을 극복할 수 없었다. 기업은 운송수단의 선택시 복잡한 결정과정을 갖는다. 이는 운송부문이 총물류비용에서 차지하는 중요도 때문이다. 기업의 운송관리자는 화물을 출하할 때마다 선택의 기로에 서게 된다. 즉, 일부는 조직 체계나 다른 계약 여건에 따라 이전과 동일한 수단을 선택하는 경우도 있지만, 많은 경우에는 매번 출하시 마다 최적의 운송수단을 선택하기 위한 새로운 결정을 하게 된다. 본 연구는 이러한 화주의 수단선택행태를 실제 RP 자료를 이용하여 분석하였다. 수단선택모형의 적용 및 분서결과를 살펴보면 상당히 attractive한 결과를 발견할 수 있는데 각 품목별 추정 값이 운송거리에 대해서는 음으로 운송비용에 대해서는 양으로 나타나고 있다. 다시 말하면 운송거리가 길수록 효용은 감소하고 운송비용이 커질수록 효용은 증가한다는 것을 의미하므로 그 분석결과가 올바른 결과를 도출하고 있지는 않다. 그러나 여기서 알수 있는 것은 운송거리와 운송비용이 각각 주요한 변수라는 것이다. 모형의 타당성을 검증하기 위해서는 logilikelihood 값을 구하여 $\rho$^2분석을 시행하였다. 여기서는 각 품목별로 $\rho$^2값이 약 0.15~0.3의 비교적 높은 수치를 보여주고 있으므로 모형의 설명력이 어느 정도 있다는 것이 아울러 증명이 되었다. 상관관계에 대한 분석에서는 영업용 차량간의 상관관계가 높게 나타났으며, 이는 곧 영업용 화물차량을 적재중량별로 구분하는 것이 별 의미가 없음을 의미한다. 다시 말하면 자가용 차량을 보유하고 있지 않은 회사는 다른 운송전문업체에 화물운송을 의뢰하게 되므로 출하중량에 따라 화물차량을 구분하는 것에 대해서 그다지 큰 고려를 하지 않는 것으로 해석할 수가 있다.

Estimation of Social Costs between the Main Transport Modes using Damage Function Approach (피해함수접근법을 이용한 주요운송수단의 사회적 비용 산정)

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate the social costs induced by various transport modes such as truck, rail and sea vessel. For this purpose, we introduce the damage function of each transport modes, and estimate social costs for 10 items using Meta Analysis. As a results, this study can find that shipping is the most efficient transport mode because it gives the lowest social costs among them. This study also find that the iso-cost transport distance that gives the equal social costs between the transport modes. Our methodology can be thought somewhat inferior to the Contingent Valuation Methods, however the advantage of this methodology is that we can decomposite the total social costs into item by item and can apply it to other researches.

  • Rail transportation system are needed to develop proper corresponds to satisfy various demands in freight transportation since there are many problems in rail transportation infrastructure and operation. This paper analyzes characteristics of rail transportation consumers and develops policy for vitality of rail transportation by survey of rail transportation consumers and AHP methodology. This paper is organized as follows. Section 1 presents the description of the objective and the methods for this study. Section 2 presents the description of the methods for analysis of characteristics of consumers of rail freight transportation. Section 3 presents the characteristics of rail transportation consumers by analysis the survey results of rail transportation consumers. Section 4 summarizes our conclusions and discusses further research topics.

Logistics Cost Analysis on Electronic Commerce(EC) by Delivery Type (전자상거래에서의 상품운송 유형에 따른 물류비 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze logistics cost of transportation systems on EC(electronic commerce) between company and consumer. Transportation system in logistics is classified by three types on EC. The first type is the direct delivery from supply factory to consumers(type I). The second type is the delivery through distribution center in each area by owner logistics company (type II). The third type is the commission of delivery to the third party logistics company(type III). The logistics of EC has various service characteristics such as dealing with small quantity, various goods, and high frequency. This study assumes that all day's order is delivered on a next day. The logistics cost function is calculated according to the number of orders, delivery distance, transport quantify. and allocated freight trucks for daily order of the subject zone. The logistics cost changes according to the daily order characteristics. Therefore it is simulated to analyze the logistics cost change that considers the type of transportation's order characteristics. As a result of analysis, if the number of order is less than 10 and the quantify of each order is less than 10kg, type III has an advantage over the others And if the number of order is more than 10 and the quantity of each order is more than 10kg, type I has an advantage in the same zone and type II has an advantage in the other zones. This study is limited on the actual application because this study doesn't consider logistics infra of supply company and transport service time. If further study that considers these factors is implemented, it can estimate more accurate logistics cost on EC and propose an efficient freight transport alternatives to the company. This study attributes to estimate the logistics cost change over the frequency of daily order, the quantify of supply goods, and the transport distance on EC.

  • Trade credit is being used as a price discrimination strategy by the suppliers in order to increase the customer's demand. From the viewpoint of the customer, if delayed payment is allowed for a certain period of time from the supplier, the effect of reducing the inventory carrying cost will positively affect the customer's order quantity. Also, in deriving the economic order quantity(EOQ) formula, it is tacitly assumed that the customer's ordering cost is a fixed cost. However in many business transactions, the customer pays the freight cost for the transportation of his order and so, the customer's ordering cost contains not only a fixed cost but also a freight cost which is a function of the order size. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed the inventory model which considers that the customer's ordering cost contains not only a fixed cost but also a freight cost which is a function of the customer's order size when the supplier permits a delay in payments. For the analysis, it is also assumed that inventory is exhausted not only by customer's demand but also by deterioration. Investigation of the properties of an optimal solution allows us to develop an algorithm whose validity is illustrated using an example problem.

Scenario-based Design and Life Cycle Cost Analysis of Energy Supply System for Transportation Sector (도로운송부문용 에너지 공급 시스템 설계 및 경제성평가)

  • This study aims to design energy supply systems from various energy sources for transportation sectors and comparatively analyze the life cycle cost of different scenario-based systems. For components of the proposed energy supply system, we consider a typical oil refinery, byproduct hydrogen system, renewable energy source (RES)-based electric generation system and existing electricity grid. We also include three types of vehicles in transportation sector such as internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV), electric vehicle (EV), fuel cell vehicle (FCV). We then develop various energy supply scenarios which consist of such components and evaluate the economic performance of different systems from the viewpoint of life cycle cost. Finally we illustrate the applicability of the proposed framework by conducting the design problem of energy supply systems of Jeju, Korea. As the results of life cycle cost analysis, EV fueled by electricity from grid is the most economically feasible. In addition, we identify key parameters to contribute the total life cycle cost such as fuel cost, vehicle cost, infra cost and maintenance cost using sensitivity analysis.

  • As an effective means of price discrimination, some suppliers offer trade credit to the distributors for the purpose of increasing the demand of the product they produce. The availability of the delay in payments from the supplier enables discount of the distributor's selling price from a wider range of the price option in anticipation of increased customer's demand. In this regard, we consider the problem of determining the distributor's optimal price and lot size simultaneously when the supplier permits delay in payments for an order of a product whose demand rate is represented by a constant price elasticity function. It is assumed that the distributor pays the shipping cost for the order and hence, the distributor's ordering cost consists of a fixed ordering cost and the shipping cost that depend on the order quantity. For the analysis, it is also assumed that inventory is depleted not only by customer's demand but also by decay. We are able to develop a solution algorithm from the properties of the mathematical model. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the algorithm developed.

  • By according to increase the research for autonomous vehicle in automobile industries, the efficient of autonomous cargo truck instead of conventional driver cargo truck will be analyzed in logistics areas. The inland transportation has been serious problem such as traffic accident, traffic congestion in downtown, air pollution, noise and etc. even if it have a great effect to logistics industries. Especially there have to be improved its transportation schedule and sleepy driving in night which induced heavy accident in highway. In this study, the effectiveness of autonomous cargo truck will be analysed by considering the logistics cost including social effects.
