  • Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women, and lymphedema is one of the most common postoperative complications of breast surgery. Exercises are usually prescribed to prevent this occurrence. On the other hand, conflicting results regarding the effects and timing of such exercises have been reported. This study reviewed systematically the contemporary literature, peer-reviewed publications, and web sites of professional organizations that examined exercise for lymphedema prevention or therapy to determine the effects of exercise on lymphedema providing the best evidence for the treatment of patients. Exercise or training groups have strategies that appear to reduce the development of secondary lymphedema and altering its progression compared to the control group. Advances in cancer treatment, cancer and exercise research, and lymphedema management require physicians to have a basic understanding of the current evidence to provide the appropriate patient education and specialist referral.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigated the effect of taping intervention applied to the diaphragm on the anaerobic performance in 30 seconds. 18 healthy college students were randomly divided into experimental group(KT=9) and control group(Sham=9). In both groups, pre and post measurement was performed by wingate test, and post measurement was performed with taping application after a week rest. The statistics between two groups on the rate of change pre and post were analyzed through Mann-Whitney U test. Statistically, it showed that only the average power(AP) of control group was significantly different. This means that diaphragmatic taping did not affect the performance of anaerobic exercise for 30 seconds. However, considering the increase in aerobic metabolism during long-term anaerobic exercise longer than 30 seconds, further studies on anaerobic exercise performance within various time ranges are needed.

  • This study aimed to verify the effects of a 4-week program of ankle-strengthening exercise and toe-taping walk exercise on the basic lower body strength and walking to examine the benefits of the two exercises. The subjects involved 30 women in their 20s enrolled in university A. The subjects were equally divided into three groups - ankle-strengthening exercise group, toe-taping walk exercise group, and control group. The subjects were instructed to massage and do ankle-strengthening exercises using a towel, massage ball, and CRT, for 60 minutes, 3 times a week. They also taped their hallux valgus using a kinesiology tape and walked for 20 minutes with white tape applied. To sum up, the 4-week ankle-strengthening exercise and toe-taping walk exercise were identified to have a partial statistical significance on the basic lower body strength (muscular strength, power, and balance) and walking (length of gait line, plantar pressure, and COP) of women in their 20s. Therefore, the study confirmed the effects of ankle-strengthening exercises and toe-taping walk exercise on the lower body exercise function, and it is considered that further studies should be conducted on more various effects of the exercises by subdividing them into different pain locations and orthomechanic findings.

  • In an effort to obtain preventive, diagnostic and therpeutic medical and exercise training information of rheumatoid arthritis as well as to provide pertinent data to be used in development of exercise program for the management of rheumatoid arthritis, this study was conducted by using literature review. Because RA is a disease that involves both joints and muscles, its activity in the different functional classes influences the patient's ability to exercise. A patient in Functional Class 1 may perform any type of exercise because the disease involvement has not yet reached major importance. Exceptions may include hard physical exercise, running, and individual racket sports. In almost all cases, bicycle exercise is possible. Patients in Functional Class 2 and a few in Class 3 can perform most types of exercise (especially cycling, walking, heated pool exercise and even jogging) in low activity phases of RA. Although a few patients in Functional Class 3 can walk, jog, and perform similar types of exercise, most persons in this class can swim or exercise on a bicycle if the type of exercise, its intensity, and its range of motion are modified according to the patient's anatomic and pathologic conditions. Most patients in Functional Class 4 are not able to carry out complicated movements. We conclude that physical training for persons with RA has physical, psychological, and social consequences that are clearly beneficial. We recommend training be one part of the many involved in the complicated treatment of RA.
