An Experimental Study on Flow Characteristics in the Open Annular Flume (환형수조에서 흐름특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study investigated the flow characteristics in an annular flume with a free water surface using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter(ADV) in the laboratory. The flow was driven by the rotation of the inner cylinder in a way designed not to interfere with flocculation of cohesive sediments. The effect of the inner cylinder for the longitudinal velocities showed highest near the moving boundary and decreased towards the outer wall. At the lower longitudinal velocity, there was a peak in turbulent kinetic energy near the bed, whereas it moved upward to with increasing of the velocity. The longitudinal velocities estimated using the power law were in good agreement with the measured values than the values predicted by the log-law with roughness lengths. The average friction velocities evaluated by Reynolds shear stress were smaller than the values calculated using the log-law and power law when increasing the longitudinal velocity.

Numerical Study on Prediction of Flare Slamming Load on Container Ship under Head Sea and Oblique Sea Conditions (선수파 및 사파조건에서 컨테이너선의 선수 플레어 슬래밍 하중 추정에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • A ship operating under rough sea conditions is exposed to a slamming load due owing to its motion relative to encountered waves. In the process of reentering the water, the ship's structure is temporarily subjected to an impact pressure. In particular, bow flare slamming often occurs in large container ships with a large flare angle, and can cause structural damage. Numerical simulations were performed in this study, and the results were compared with reliable experimental results. The simulation results were also used to estimate the bow flare slamming pressures on a container ship under head sea and oblique sea conditions. It was found that a maximum impact pressure of 475 kPa was generated near the 0.975 station of the container ship under a head sea condition.

Development of Control Method for Improving Energy Efficiency of Unmanned Underwater Gliders (무인 수중글라이더의 에너지 효율 개선을 위한 제어방법 개발)

  • In this paper, unmanned underwater glider was designed for high-depth operation and adopted a bladder-type buoyancy controller for improving battery efficiency, and the motion controller controls the pitch angle by moving the internal mass battery. To improve the energy efficiency of the unmanned underwater glider, a layered PID controller that performs control by section was designed. Simulation program including 6-DOF motion equations and hydrodynamics coefficients of an unmanned underwater glider is constructed using Matlab/Simulink program. Control methods such as PID controller, sliding mode controller and layered PID controller were applied to the simulator to compare the dynamics performance and energy efficiency. As a result, the layered PID controller showed improved control performance compared to other controllers and improved energy efficiency of approximately 7.2% compared to PID controller.

  • In patients with Tourette's syndrome, a tic occurs when Mu wave synchronization is broken. Conversely, when Mu wave synchronization is achieved, a tick does not occur. When the tic is suppressed, the cognitive control response process is changed, and if the neurofeedback training that adjusts the EEG frequency power is performed with the changed, the patient will be treated autonomously without artificially suppressing the tic. The results of the research test suggest that if the tic patient does not artificially synchronize mu waves in the premotor cortex (Frontal Cortical 3 site), and if EEG control is performed autonomously like neurofeedback training, as a result, tics do not occur. Cognitive control response processes are altered when a subject is inhibited from tics. By training the altered cognitive control with neurofeedback that modulates EEG frequency power, the patient can be treated autonomously without artificially suppressing the tic.Mu-wave synchronizationcan now be added to existing neurofeedback treatment protocols such as SMR reinforcement, theta-beta-wave imbalance correction, and alpha-wave reinforcement. This study will be used in follow-up studies and clinical trials to more scientifically verify the neurofeedback treatment protocol, a treatment for patients with Tourette's syndrome.

A Study on the Manoeuvrability of 1/42.0 Scaled KCS (1/42.0 KCS 모형선의 조종성능에 관한 연구)

  • The emergence of new concept ships, such as autonomous ships, has drawn much attention on the manoeuvrability of ships because of the safe navigation and operation of ships. Although the manoeuvrability of KRISO Container Ship(KCS) has been frequently reported, there have been few documents of representative manoeuvre cases conducted in various methods by one institute. This paper presents the manoeuvrability of the ship in 1/42.0 model scale by 3 methods: free running model tests, horizontal planar motion mechanism tests, and computational fluid dynamics analysis. KRISO reports KCS manoeuvre data: 35° turning circle tests and 20/20(10/10) zigzag manoeuvring tests. In addition, a simple formula for integrating and comparing manoeuvre indices, Manoeuvrability Comparing Simple Index(MCSI), is proposed.

  • This paper deals with a study for the guidance control of reusable launch vehicle. For this purpose, modeling of the equation of motion of a reusable launch vehicle with 6 degrees of freedom was performed. With this model, an optimal re-entry path was created and a path-following guidance control simulation was performed to follow the optimal re-entry path. For the design of the path-following guidance controller, the attitude controller applying a time-delay technique that is resistant to modeling uncertainty, disturbance and failure. And the nonlinear path-following guidance law were used. Guidance control simulation using a classical PD controller was performed and compared with the guidance control simulation of a reusable launch vehicle applying a time delay technique.

  • This paper want to examine how Gwanghwamun and its surrounding areas work in the cinematic spaces for Korean films of the 1950s-2010s. First, in Korean films of the 1950s-1960s, Myeong-dong(Namchon), Bukchon, Seochon, and Dongchon are the primitive, perceptual, existential spaces that show the underground world and tragic pathos in the splendid city through intense desires and fatal frustration, the shadows and conflicts of modernization. Second, in Korean films of the 1970s-1990s, Myeongdong·Jongno(Namchon·Bukchon), Seochon and Dongchon are the perceptual, existential spaces that show public revenge and private alienation through the dichotomy of freedom/evil and the dichotomy of wealth/poverty. Third, in Korean films of the 2000-2010s, Gwanghwamun(Seochon), Bukchon, Namchon, and Dongchon are the perceptual, existential spaces that show civil society ethos and gloomy requiem through national agendas, resistance movements, desires and losses, miserable reality and death.

Visual Tracking Technique Based on Projective Modular Active Shape Model (투영적 모듈화 능동 형태 모델에 기반한 영상 추적 기법)

  • Visual tracking technique is one of the essential things which are very important in the major fields of modern society. While contour tracking is especially necessary technique in the aspect of its fast performance with target's external contour information, it sometimes fails to track target motion because it is affected by the surrounding edges around target and weak egdes on the target boundary. To overcome these weak points, in this research it is suggested that PDMs can be obtained by generating the virtual 6-DOF motions of the mobile robot with a CCD camera and the image tracking system which is robust to the local minima around the target can be configured by constructing Active Shape Model in modular base. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, the experiment is performed on the image stream obtained by a real mobile robot and the better performance is confirmed by comparing the experimental results with the ones of other major tracking techniques.

Impact of Secondary Currents on Solute Transport in Open-Channel Flows over Smooth-Rough Bed Strips (조(粗)·세립상(細粒床)의 연속구조를 갖는 개수로 흐름에서 오염물질 수송에 대한 이차흐름 영향 분석)

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of the impact of the secondary currents on solute transport in open-channel flows. The RANS model with Reynolds stress model is used for flow modeling, and the GGDH(generalized gradient diffusion hypothesis) model is used to close the scalar transport equation. Using the developed model, the impact of secondary currents on solute transport in open channel flows over smooth-rough strip is investigated. Through numerical experiments, the secondary currents are found to affect the solute spreading, leading a movement of the position of the peak concentration and a skewed distribution of solute concentration. Due to the lateral flow of secondary currents near the free surface, the concentration at the rough strip is found to be larger than that at the smooth strip bed. The solute at the rough strip is more rapidly transported than smooth bed. A magnitude analysis of the solute transport rate in scalar transport equation is also carried out to investigate the effect of secondary currents and scalar flux on the concentration distribution.

Effect of Guideway Characteristics on Runnability of Actively Controlled Maglev Vehicle (선로특성이 능동제어 자기부상열차의 주행성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of present study is to examine the effect of guideway characteristics on runnability of low and medium speed maglev vehicle. Dynamic governing equation for 2-dof vehicle and optimal feedback control scheme are developed. And then the effect of vehicle speed, rail roughness, guideway deflection, continuity of spans, each span length on dynamic response of the UTM-01 maglev vehicle are investigated. From the numerical simulation, it is found that the gap between bogie and guideway does not increase greatly within design velocity of the vehicle. The response of vehicle are mostly affected by the guideway deflection rather than rail roughness. As a result of the present study, the runnability of maglev vehicle can be improved by reducing the maximum deflection of guideway and adopting the continuous girder systems.
