Comparative Analysis of Mechanical Vibrations of an Air-Drop Hammer and a Counterblow Hammer in Forging Process (에어-드롭 해머와 카운터블로 해머 프레스 단조공정의 기계진동 비교해석)

  • Air-drop hammer press and counterblow hammer press are widely used power-drop forging hammersemploying different forging blow mechanisms. It is important and necessary to analyze mechanical vibrations of these two different hammers in their forging processes in order to develop high performance forging hammers. In this study, these two forging hammers were mathematically modelled as mass-spring-damper systems. For these two different types of forging hammers, the forging efficiency and mechanical vibrations due to hammer forging blow were theoretically analyzed and compared. The force transmitted to the ground was also determined and compared. Especially, effects of mass ratio and restitution coefficient on forging efficiency were investigated.

  • An experimental study on the characteristics of stability of propane turbulent nonpremixed jet flames discharged normal to air free-streams with uniform velocity profile is conducted. Experimental observations are focused on the flame shape, the stability considering two kinds of flame, lift-off distance, and the flame length according to velocity ratio. In order to investigate the mixing structure of the flame base at the lower limit, we employ the RMS technique and measure the species concentration by a gas chromatography. In the results of the stability curve and lifted flame, it is fecund that the dependency of nozzle diameter is closely related to the large-scale vortical structure representing counter-rotating vortices pair. Also, the detailed discussion on the phenomenon of blowout due to this large vortical motion, is provided.

  • The vibration characteristics of a hammer press are important parameters for machine design and production control. In this study, a counterblow hammer press was mathematically modelled as a mass-spring-damper system in order to analyze its vibration characteristics. The forging efficiency was theoretically derived as a function of the mass ratio, momentum ratio, and the coefficient of restitution And the effects of the mass ratio, momentum ratio and the restitution coefficient on the forging efficiency were also investigated for two particular cases of the unit mass ratio and unit momentum ratio. Additionally, the vibration responses of the counterblow hammer press due to the ram colliding impact were analyzed, and the force transmitted to the foundation through the mounting unit was determined.

Lung Clearance of Inhaled $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA by Urine Excretion Ratio (소변내 방사능배설량비를 이용한 $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA 폐청소율에 관한 연구)

  • Background: Lung clearance of inhaled $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA reflects alveolar epithelial permeability and it had been reported as more sensitive than conventional pulmonary function tests in detecting lung epithelial damage. However, measuring lung clearance of inhaled $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA by gamma camera may not always reflect alveolar epithelial permeability exactly because it is influenced by mucociliary clearance depending on the site of particle deposition. Moreover, this method takes much time and patient's effort because he has to sit or lie still in front of the camera for a prolonged period. Most of the absorbed DTPA is excreted in urine within 24 hours and the amount of excreted DTPA in urine during the first few hours after inhalation is influenced by absorption rate which is correlated with the alveolar-epithelial permeability suggesting that the urinary excretion, especially in first few hours, may be an alternate index for lung clearance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of ratio of excreted $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA in 2 hour and 24 hour urine as an index of alveolar-epithelial damage. Methods: Pulmonary function tests including diffusing capacity and lung clearance of $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA measured by gama camera ($T_{1/2}$) and 2hr/24hr urine excretion ratio (Ratio) of inhaled $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA in 8 normal subjects and 14 patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease were compared. Results: 1) In the normal control, there was significant negative correlation between the $T_{1/2}$ and the Ratio (r=-0.77, p<0.05). In patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease, there also was significant negative correlation between $T_{1/2}$ and Ratio(r=-0.63, p<0.05). 2) In diffuse interstitial lung disease patients, the $T_{1/2}$ was $38.65{\pm}11.63$ min which was significantly lower than that of normal control, $55.53{\pm}11.15$ min and the Ratio was $52.15{\pm}10.07%$ also signifantly higher than that of the normal control, $40.43{\pm}5.53%$ (p<0.05). 3) There was no significant correlations between $T_{1/2}$ or Ratio and diffusing capactiy of lung in both patients and controls (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results suggests that 2hr/24hr urine excretion ratio of inhaled $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA is a useful simple bedside test in assessing alveolar epithelial permeability and that it may be used as an additive follow-up test in patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease complementing conventional pulmonary function tests.

  • The experiment on the liquid jet in crossflow in supersonic BFS (backward-facing step) flow was conducted to investigate the mixing characteristics. The working fluids are nitrogen and water. The shadow graph technique was used to visualize the flow field. Images captured by the high-speed camera were applied to analyze the flow phenomena. The liquid jet was injected at the re-circulation zone created by the supersonic jet flow. Experimental conditions are defined based on the pressure of the nitrogen gas chamber and pressurized liquid tank. In respective cases, the penetration depth of liquid jet and location of the Mach disc were observed to be proportional to the momentum ratio of gas and liquid jets.

  • For the prediction of combustion performance of the Unlike Impinging Quadlet Injector (OOOF type), mixing efficiency, mixing characteristic velocity, and efficiency of mixing characteristic velocity were obtained from the cold test. Water/kerosene were used for simulants, The momentum ratio of oxidizer and fuel were mixing correlating parameter. Orifice discharge coefficient, spray pattern and mass distribution were measured. As a result, invasion-depth had strong effect on mixing efficiency, mixing characteristic velocity, and efficiency of mixing characteristic velocity. Mixing efficiency and efficiency of mixing characteristic velocity showed maximum value for momentum ratio 1.67(TMR = 2.5), and fuel rich state showed larger decreasing ratio than oxidizer rich state.

Atomization Characteristic of F-O-F Triplet Injector for Gas Generator (가스발생기용 F-O-F 충돌형 인젝터 분사특성)

  • An injector for fuel rich gas generator was designed and experimentally investigated. Five variations of F-O-F triplet impinging type injector were tested to evaluate spray characteristics with kerosene/water simulant propellant. Test was focused to find the effect of design variables of impinging angle, and impinging distance, on the atomization performance. A mixing efficiency is used to compare droplet distribution and local O/F ratio of each injector in the range of momentum ratio of 0.2~1.3. Test results shows the max value of mixing efficiency locates about the 0.8 in momentum ratio. And the injector with an impinging angle of 45 degree and impinging distance of 6mm shows the very good performance result suitable for fuel rich gas generator. A combustion test will be also conducted with selected injector to verify the spray pattern and mixing efficiency.

The Comparison of Spray Characteristics between FOOF and FOF Injectors used in Liquid Rockets (액체로켓용 FOOF와 FOF 인젝터의 분무특성 비교)

  • Triplet(FOF or OFO) injectors are commonly applied to liquid rockets which use LOX and hydrocarbon propellants. The FOF type injector has been known to have an advantage for the although to show lower combustion performance as compared by the OFO type. However, a large disparity between oxidizer and fuel orifice diameters of the FOF type injector may reduce both the combustion efficiency and stability so that as FOOF split triplet injector which splits a single oxidizer orifice into double orifices was designed. In the present study, spray characteristics of the FOOF injector were investigated and compared with those of the FOF injector undo. cold flow conditions. Mass distributions of oxidizer and fuel for both injectors were measured by using a PLLIF (Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence)technique, and each drop size was also measured by using an instantaneous photographic method. From the experimental results, we found out that FOOF shows more stable mixing efficiencies than the FOF. As for the drop size of both oxidizer and fuel, there was not a large difference between two injector types.

Application of 10Be Dating Technique for Marine Terrace Studies and Its Limitations (해안단구 연구를 위한 10Be 연대측정법의 적용과 한계점)

  • Although Quaternary marine terraces and onshore paleo-shoreline records provide clues to our understanding for the mode and nature of neotectonics in the Korean peninsula, it cannot be accomplished without knowledge on both independent information of the past sea level records and tectonic deformation field together with precise results of numerical dating for higher terraces. This study reported cosmogenic radionuclides ($^{10}Be$) dating results conducted in higher terraces in the eastern and western coasts of the Korean peninsula. As a result, the measured concentration ratio of $^9Be/^{10}Be$ and the exposure ages were much younger than expected. It implies that either there is possibility of error in experimental processes or the samples experienced a complex exposure history probably included a burial at some stage. Considering the past climatic conditions around the Korean peninsula and a possible complex exposure history after the emergence of marine terrace, the discovery of a suitable study area and a sampling site are an essential part of successful $^{10}Be$ dating technique.
