Applying the Theory of Planned Behavior to Understand Milk Consumption among WIC Preagnant Women (저소득층 임신부들의 우유 소비 행동을 이해하기 위한예측이론(Theory of Planned Behavior)의 적용)

  • Despite the importance of prenatal nutrition, many studies find inadequate calcium intake among pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of the Theory of Planned Behavior in explaining the intentions and the actual consumption of milk among pregnant women participating in or eligible for WIC. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect information regarding attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control, milk allocation within the family, intentions and consumption of milk. The survey questionnaire was developed using open-ended questions and interviews with 112 pregnant women. One-hundred-eighty women recruited from prenatal clinics completed the survey questionnaire. Multiple regression was used separately to investigate the association of factors to intentions and to the consu-mption of milk, as proposed in the theory. Milk allocation within the family was used as an exploratory variable to explain milk consumption. Study findings revealed that all three factors, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived control contributed to the model in explaining intentions (explained variance : 36.2%), with perceived control being most important. For milk consumption, intentions and perceived control were related significantly to actual consumption, while milk allocation within the family was not (explained variance : 44.6%). These findings suggest that perceived control is important in understanding both intentions and milk consumption, providing empirical evidence for the Theory of Planned Behavior. With respect to the role of perceived control, more strong evidence was provided in explaining intentions. Findings suggest that educational interventions to increase milk consumption among pregnant women should incorporate strategies to enhance the perception of control, and to strengthen positive attitudes and to elicit social support from significant other.   • 근간의 원유수급 불균형에 따른 재고 분유의 체화현상은 자못 심각한 바가 있다. 이는 단기적인 우유소비 확대책 만으로는 주기적으로 닥칠것으로 예상되는 우유파동을 해소하기 곤란하다고 판단되므로 여기서는 과거의 우유 소비증가 추세와 우유체화의 주기를 검토한후 장단기 대책으로 구분하여 검토해 보기로 한다.

  • 한국낙농육우협회는 낙농불황의 극복을 위하여 우유소비 홍보에 나서기로 하고 낙농가들의 동참을 설득하였고, 그 결과 1999년도 첫해에 낙농가들의 $83\%가 동참하는 놀라운 성과를 얻어 자조금사업을 시작하였다. 이에 본고에서는 1999년도 낙농업계 전체의 힘을 모아 펼친 바 있는 우유소비촉진을 위한 광고$\cdot$홍보활동이 우유소비증가와 낙농가의 수익에 어느 정도로 기여하였는가에 대한 평가를 시도하였다.

First of all, improving the quality of milk in the premium milk market can be able to expect the activation of consumption and through promotion activities by the Korean wave can lead to create new consumption pioneered the market diversification at the same time export varieties of white milk and jersey species take advantage of a variety of milk in addition to drink beauty and cooking areas while lowering manufacturing costs through the introduction of the cheese will increase the revenue of the dairy companies and dairy consumption expected to activate at the same time. It is necessary to change cultivars in order to think about nutritional value and flavor, and further environment, and high quality premium milk will become a new trend in the future. Furthermore, promoting the benefits of milk consumption would contribute in raising the milk demand that is negatively correlated with increasing age.

  • 낙농자조금사업은 우리나라 전체 낙농가들이 스스로 참여하여 우유 소비 홍보를 통한 소비 촉진과 판로 확대를 기함에 그 목적이 있다. 낙농자조금에 의한 공익적이고 공통분모적 우유소비홍보가 체계적으로 이루어지기전까지는 각 유업체별 유제품 홍보만이 주류를 이루었고 낙농산업 전체를 대변하는 공익적 홍보는 없었다.

The effect of School Milk Program for Junior & Senior High School Students on Milk Consumption (Tobit 모형을 이용한 중·고등학교 우유급식이 우유소비에 미치는 효과 분석)

  • Today’s teenagers were significantly deficient of calcium intakes, taking on the average only 55.4 percents of the recommended. Milk was the major source of calcium intakes, and therefore the school milk program need to be readdressed to remedy this problem. However, school milk program(SMP) was said to be simply the substitute for milk at home, so that no more than a minimal effect on total milk consumption be warranted. This Study aimed to find out whether or not the school milk program was an effective measure to increase teenager’s milk consumption and explored the relation between school milk and total milk consumption for 1,079 junior and senior high school students who were surveyed by questionnaire from 15th June to 15th July in 2006. A Tobit model was used for the statistical analysis. In this model, we first regressed milk consumption on 5 variables i.e. degree of satisfaction, participation in SMP, sex, school, region. But the variable region was not significant statistically. Then we regressed on 4 variables except for region. The results showed 4 variables were all significant and the marginal effect of variable ‘participation in SMP’ was 1.3. Especially, the marginal effect 1.3 means that the students participating in the school milk program consumed 1.3cups more than the non-participants, which indicated the effectiveness of school milk program to improve the calcium deficiency program of teenagers.
