A MAC Protocol for Supporting QoS of Multimedia over HFC-CATV Network (HFC-CATV 망에서 멀티미디어 QoS 제공을 위한 MAC 프로토콜)

  • 최근 초고속 통신망의 하부 가입자망으로 HFC-CATV에 관한 연구가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 특히, HFC-CATV 망은 양방향 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 것이 특징이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 HFC-CATV 망을 이용하여 다양한 멀티미디어 트래픽의 QoS를 만족시키기 위한 매체접근제어 프로토콜 중 우선순위 큐(Priority Queue)와 마이크로슬롯을 이용한 MAC 프로토콜을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리즘의 우수성을 입증하기 위해 기존 표준안에서 제안한 알고리즘과 비교 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능분석을 하였다.

  • The subscriber access network is cause of the bottleneck phenomenon because equipment and infrastructure were not originally designed for busty high-bandwidth traffic between MAN(Metro Area Network) and LAN(Local Area Network). Whether riding on shorter copper drops or optical fiber, Ethernet is emerging as the future broadband protocol of choice, offering plug and play simplicity, and low cost. EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) combines point-to-multipoint optical infrastructure with low-cost high-bandwidth Ethernet. The future broadband access network will be a combination of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint Ethernet, optimized for transporting IP data, as well as time critical voice and video. EPON is being considered as a novel communications infrastructure for next-generation broadband access network for the convergence of low-cost Ethernet equipment and low-cost fiber infrastructure. But, EPON has a problem with duplex multimedia services. It is the insufficiency of bandwidth for upstream. Because all ONUs use a shared transmission media for upstream. In this paper, we addressed the problem of upstream bandwidth in EPONs. We presented a wavelength division EPON supporting QoS in the differentiated services framework.

  • 멀티미디어 통신을 위한 계층형 멀티캐스트를 무선 환경으로 화장할 때에는 무선 네트워크의 낮은 대역폭에 의한 네트워크 혼잡 및 핸드오프에 의한 전송률 불안정 현상이 나타나게 된다. 이러한 문제를 효과적이고 능동적으로 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는이동 지원국 (MSS) 을 이용한 능동적인 전송률 조절 기법과 우선 순위에 따른 패킷 누락 기법을 제안한다. MSS는 네트워크 계층의 전송 큐 사용량을 통해 현재의 네트워크 상태를 파악해, 네트워크 혼잡 시 이동 호스트(MH)의 가입 실험 (Join-experiment) 을 막거나 수신 계층의 제거를 종용할 수 있다. 그리고 MSS에서 직접 계층별 우선 순위를 부여함으로써 핸드오프에 의한 전송량 불안정성 및 대역폭 분배 불공평성을 해결하고자 한다.

  • IEEE1394 is a de facto standard for the home network interfaces of digital multimedia home devices including digital A/V systems, digital camcorders, and PCs. Recently, it has been used in applications to guarantee the real-time characteristics such as home automation system and IICP (Instrument and Industrial Control Protocol). In order to guarantee real-time requirements in these IEEE1394-based real-time applications, this thesis proposes the software architecture of an IEEE1394 based home network that supports the guarantee for service's react-time characteristics. The proposed architecture has a real-time IEEE1394 device driver and event service architecture for guarantee real-time characteristics. The real-time device driver supports priority-based queueing of packets and mechanism to reduce the interrupt latency time in ISR. The event service architecture supports a real-time events delivery based on home network service using real-time event channel. This architecture can accommodate the real-time requirements of various applications and services such as digital multimedia services with QoS guarantees. home automation system required real-tine characteristics.

Packet Scheduling Algorithm for QoS Enhancement in WBAN (WBAN 환경에서 QoS 향상을 위한 패킷 스케줄링 알고리즘)

  • WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) is network to support medical and non-medical services. It is susceptible to loss and delay of data. WBAN is required to satisfy many kinds of demands such as a variety of data rate and a data priority for providing various service. In this paper scheduling algorithm, considering a data priority and transmission delay time, is proposed to improve service quality of WBAN. The proposed algorithm operates by allocating a channel to a flow with longer transmission delay. When a packet, in a queue of herb, is left within a certain period, the packet is assigned a channel and transmitted according to a data priority. Through the comparison with other existing scheduling algorithms, it is confirmed that QoS is improved due to higher arrival probability of medical data and less delay time in the proposed algorithm.

  • SIP is a flexible and extensible call setup protocol that may be combined with other protocols used in the Internet to make various services like voice communication. Voice communication can be classified into normal calls used for communication between common users and emergency calls for 112, 119 and other services through public safety networks. It is required to research to process effectively these normal calls and emergency calls through public networks such as the Internet. In this paper, we propose a bypass scheme for emergency calls by giving priority to INVITE messages for them and processing them with priority in the SIP proxy queue. We perform simulation studies using the network simulator ns-2 for the performance evaluation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme processes emergency calls faster than normal calls and thus it is expected to make a special purpose network like the national disaster network efficiently by using the existing Internet.

  • This paper describes the method that voice traffic is served efficiently in BISDN. Voice is divided into talkspurt and silent period, and it is possible to transmit olny talksurt by the speech activity detection. This paper described the voice traffic control algorithm in the ATM network where cell discarding method is applied to the embedded ADPCM voice data. For traffic control, the cell discarding was used over low priority cells when it overflows the queue threshold. To estimate the efficiency of traffic control algorithm, the computer simuation was performed with cell loss probability, queue length and mean delay as performance parameters. The embedded ADPCM voice coding and cell disscarding resulted in improving the voice cell traffic efficiency and the dynamic control over network congestion.

Effecient Prefetching Scheme for Hybrid Hard Disk (하이브리드 하드디스크를 위한 효율적인 선반입 기법)

  • The Competitiveness of Hybrid hard disk drive(H-HDD) for solid state disk(SSD) comes from both lower power consumption and higher reading speed. This paper suggests a prefetching scheme that can improve the performance of Non-Volatile cache(NVCache) memory installed on the H-HDD through prefetching disk blocks as well as files to the NVCache. The proposed scheme makes the highly used data such as booting files copy to the NVCache as an unit of file and the frequently accessed blocks copy to the NVCache. This prefetching is done on the idle time of disk queue and the priorities of prefetched target blocks are based on both time and spatial locality of blocks. Experiments results show that the suggested method can improve response time of H-HDD and also lower the power consumption.

  • VANET is a technology for building a robust ad-hoc network between mobile vehicles as well as, between vehicles and RSU. Vehicles are moving and they only stay in the RSU area for a short time. When the number of requests is increased, an important challenge is to implement a suitable scheduling algorithm which serves as more requests as possible. $D^*S$ algorithm uses a priority weight, DS_Value, for selection of a request to get service. Priority weight is influenced only by deadline and data size parameters. We propose a packet scheduling using multilevel queue and show that using this idea leads to higher service ratio compare to previous algorithms.
