  • This paper describes the analysis of vibration characteristics through the human body as the research for voice therapy and diagnosis. The oscillation signal is not external forces but the self-voice to be pronounced the vowels ('a', 'e', 'i', 'o', 'u'). The experiment system consists of microphones, accelerometers and amplifiers. The input data are stored by the computer. At the same time, the voice is stored by the microphone and the vibration signal of the human body is stored by accelerometer. The 63 points are appointed in head, neck, trunk of human body. The positions and number of times are changeable by the purpose. The analysis parameters are amplitude, phase, fundamental. frequency, formant and the correlation of vibration signal and voice is measured by coherence function. The results show that the vibration signals have characteristic vibration in the positions of human body.

  • This paper describes characteristics of a bone conduction telephone which was developed for conductive hearing impaired persons to call without additional devices and results of its performance test. Not only the hearing impaired but also normal hearing persons can use this telephone because we developed a bone conduction vibrator with which they can perceive speech signal using functions of air conductive hearing as well as bone conductive hearing. It also has tone control function compensating hearing losses for the hearing impaired originating from their hearing characteristics, and using this function together with received volume control it has received volume range of 20dB in loudness rating, which is similar effect as what a telephone set with built-in received amplifier has. From results of articulation and intelligibility tests for 19 hearing impaired persons, we can see that if their bone-conduction hearing loss is 61dB or less, they can understand words or sentences and response well with this telephone.

  • In this study, we formulate an acoustical topology optimization problem to optimally design a partition layout inside the expansion chamber of a muffler. The lower-limit insertion loss value at a target frequency is constrained, and the partition volume is selected as an object function. In this study, we calculate the insertion loss outside the duct, while to determine the noise-attenuation performance, we use the insertion loss value calculated inside the duct or transmission loss value obtained in a previous study. We employ the finite-element model for acoustical analysis, and we determine the transmission of an incident acoustic wave through each finite element using the functions of design variables that change continuously between "0" and "1." The rigid body elements, which totally reflect incident waves, build up partitions. Finally, we compare optimal topologies that depend on the target frequency and the allowed lower-limit value of insertion loss.

  • This paper reports the development and performance evaluation of a backend system for real-time IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) imaging. The developed backend system was designed to minimize the amount of logic and memory usage by means of efficient LUTs (Look-up Tables), and it was implemented in a single FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) without using external memory. This makes it possible to implement the backend system that is less expensive, smaller, and lighter. The accuracy of the backend system implemented was evaluated by comparing the output of the FPGA with the result computed using a MATLAB program implemented in the same way as the VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) code. Based on the result of ex-vivo experiment using rabbit artery, the developed backend system was found to be suitable for real-time intravascular ultrasound imaging.

  • The IME(implantable middle ear) system is Promising due to its ability to free from sound feedback and Produce a good sound quality and intelligibility with low distortion even if it is operated with high gain for severe hearing impaired. The differential electromagnetic vibration transducer. which was developed for using in IME system and has two small magnets attached the same Pole facing in the coil. is not influenced by environmental external magnetic field. Besides, it has high vibration efficiency and good frequency response characteristics. In this Paper, using acoustic model of the transducer and ear model of normal Person. the signal transfer characteristics of the IME system are analyzed and investigated From the differences of the characteristics between normal ear and the IME system, it is Possible that design of the IME system that have the signal transfer characteristics similar to normal person's ear.

  • A method for designing a broadband transducer was investigated experimentally. Control of the resonance frequency of a Piezoelectric circular transducer with two pairs of electrodes was achieved by varying the inductance of external coil connected across the terminal of one pair of electrodes of transducer. The conductance curves of transducer in water were obtained as a function of the inductance value in mH of the coil used in the tuning. As the tuning inductance is increased in value, the resonance frequency is reduced toward the fundamental frequency of 50 kHz. This interesting result suggest that it is possible to produce a continuously tunable transducer covering a frequency range between 61.3 kHz and 121.7 kHz by varying the inductance value of external coil from 2.7 mH to 15.0 mH. One of other problems in the design and construction of such broadband transducer is the transducer efficiency, but this will be the subject of our future work.

  • The polyethylene pipe can use semi-permanent because of the high corrosion resistance with chemical stability. In addition to, there is the merit that is an easy to establish and to maintain. However, as the reason that it is simply degraded when the polyethylene pipe was exposed to the outside, mainly it is used to lay under the ground with low-pressure gas transportation pipe. In this study, the nondestructive evaluation method was used to maintain the integrity of the polyethylene pipe. We simulated the various defects on the polyethylene pipes, and then the AE signal occurred according to the impact test of steel ball was evaluated by the acoustic emission method. From the results, the waveform and dominant frequency could be distinguishing from the defect shapes of polyethylene pipe. Especially, in the case of notch defect, the AE signals occur different by the angle and depth of the notch.

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global population has experienced drastic changes, one of which is the increase in remote work. Given the ongoing possibility of exposure to infectious diseases and various other circumstances, the expansion of remote work is anticipated. To enhance the efficiency of remote work and address its existing limitations, this study surveyed the perceptions of indoor environments among individuals who worked from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examined how the characteristics of individuals influenced their perceptions of indoor environments. It was found that the number of occupants and rooms, size of the house, and noise sensitivity affected the perceptions of outdoor noise, neighbor noise, and indoor noise caused by cohabitants. The findings can be used as foundational data for designing multipurpose housing that can be utilized not only for residential purposes but also for work and educational settings in the future.

  • Clinicians usually use stethoscopic auscultation for the diagnosis of heart diseases. However, the heart sound signal has varying characteristics due to the noise and/or the conditions of the patients. Also, it is not easy for junior clinicians to find the acoustical differences between different kinds or heart sound signals. which may result in errors in the diagnosis. Thus it will be quite useful for the clinicians to make use of an automatic classification system using signal processing techniques. In this paper, we propose to use hidden Markov models in stead of artificial neural networks which have been conventionally used for the automatic classification of heart sounds. In the experiments classifying heart sound signals. we could see that the proposed methods were quite successful in the classification accuracy.

  • Recently, the electric vehicle market is gradually growing due to strengthened environmental regulations and high oil prices. also, in internal combustion engine vehicles, the sensitivity of Buzz, Squeak, Rattle (BSR) noise is increasing as engine Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)-related noise is reduced and technology for shielding noise coming from outside is developed. In this study, the stick-slip noise that occurs in Panoramic Curved Display (PCD) of automobile was analyzed for the correlation between the surface energy of polymer plastic and the polar component. For polar polymer materials, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and PolyCarbonate-Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (PC-ABS), compound materials were fabricated and evaluated. As a result, when the polar component of the polymer plastic was 3.86 mN/m or higher, stick-slip motion occurred, and as the absolute transition slope increased in the friction behavior over time, the possibility of stick-slip noise increased and the value of the friction coefficient The greater the difference, the greater the strength of the stick-slip noise.
