  • Compared to metal, CFRP has excellent mechanical characteristics in terms of intensity, hardness, and heat resistance as well as its light weight that it is used widely in various fields. Therefore, this material has been used recently in the aerospace field. On the other hand, the material has shortcomings in terms of its extreme vulnerability to damage occurring internally from an external impact. This study examined the intensity up to its destruction from repeated use with the internal impact of a CFRP laminated plate that had also been exposed to external impact obtain design data for the external plate of aircraft used in the aerospace field. For the experimental method, regarding the quasi-isotopic type CFRP specimen and orthotropic CFRP specimen that are produced with a different layer structure, steel spheres with a diameter of 5 mm were collided to observe the resulting impact damage. Through a 3-point flexural fatigue experiment, the progress of internal layer separation and impact damage was observed. Measurements of the flexural fatigue strength after the flexural fatigue experiment until internal damage occurs and the surface impacted by the steel spheres revealed the quasi-isotopic layer structure to have a higher intensity for both cases.

  • Crib wall is one of the segmental grid retaining walls using headers and stretchers to establish the framework of the wall. In this method, grids formed by the intersection of headers and stretchers are generally filled with the gravel to maintain the weight of the wall. Therefore, the construction can be carried out with higher speed and much economically when compared with the concrete retaining wall. Furthermore, it has high drain capacity, and environmentally friendly aspects also have been pointed out because the possibility of the planting at the front of the wall. However, in the wooden crib wall method, the relative movement between the individual headers and stretchers was generally recognized, and stress redistribution in the gravel filling was also observed when subjected to the external loading and self-weight of filling. In this study, it was analyzed fracture types and causes of wooden crib wall through detailed investigation and analysis of a large crib wall construction site. As a results, it occurred the damage in the members of 5.7% in a total of 2,315 locations and the damage of header occurred in the members of a header 80.2%. The 65.7% of the damaged header are concentrated in the lower part of crib wall. Therefore, it was analyzed the differences of fracture types and causes of wooden crib wall depending on the installation position and the kinds of members. It is considered basically the members of various forms of distortion and the grain affecting.

  • In this study, we perform the design of dome geometry for the composite pressure vessel with applying the equation of Fulton and Vasiliev considering external load(thrusts). Variables of the dome geometry are opening radius ratio(${\rho}_0$) from 0.1 to 0.5 and thrust level from 40kN to 200kN. We conduct Finite Element Analysis(FEA) by using ABAQUS. As a result, the strain of the composite pressure vessel has shown strain gradient from inner to outer of dome surface. And the strain gradient may cause crack of resin inside the composite laminate. Strain gradient of Fulton dome is monotonously decreased as the ${\rho}_0$ increases, but the strain gradient of Vasiliev dome bas shown some different trend. when ${\rho}_0{\leq}0.1$, strain gradient of Fulton's is higher than Vasiliev's. But when 0.1<${\rho}_0$<0.35, strain gradient of Vasiliev's becomes higher than Fulton's. And in the case of $0.35{\leq}{\rho}_0$, strain gradient of Vasiliev's is higher than Fulton's. So the Vasiliev dome is more effective in ${\rho}_0{\leq}0.1$ condition and Fulton dome is more effective in $0.35{\leq}{\rho}_0$ condition. So, it's important for dome design to consider the crack of resin cause of the strain gradient.

  • The geological factors for causing ground subsidence are very diverse. It can be affected by any geological or extrinsic influences, and even within the same geological factor, the soil depression impact factor can be determined by different physical properties. As a result of reviewing a large number of papers and case histories, it can be seen that there are seven categories of ground subsidence factors. The depth and thickness of the overburden can affect the subsidence depending on the existence of the cavity, whereas the depth and orientation of the boundary between soil and rock are dominant factors in the ground composed of soil and rock. In case of soil layers, more various influencing factors exist such as type of soil, shear strength, relative density and degree of compaction, dry unit weight, water content, and liquid limit. The type of rock, distance from the main fracture and RQD can be influential factors in the bedrock. When approaching from the hydrogeological point of view, the rainfall intensity, the distance and the depth from the main channel, the coefficient of permeability and fluctuation of ground water level can influence to ground subsidence. It is also possible that the ground subsidence can be affected by external factors such as the depth of excavation and distance from the earth retaining wall, groundwater treatment methods at excavation work, and existence of artificial facilities such as sewer pipes. It is estimated that to evaluate the ground subsidence factor during the construction of underground structures in urban areas will be essential. It is expected that ground subsidence factors examined in this study will contribute for the reliable evaluation of the ground subsidence risk.

  • In general, bridges are facilities installed for the purpose of easily passing through sections such as valleys and rivers. Railway bridges that run through downtown areas are damaged due to external factors such as earthquakes and collisions with passing vehicles, resulting in serious human casualties. This can cause serious human and properties damage, such as functional paralysis in downtown areas. Depending on the degree of damage, repair work such as partial repair or full replacement is in progress for the bridge where the collision occurred. When damage or deformation occurs due to collision, the repair method is determined according to the degree of deformation and the degree to which the load capacity of the bridge is affected by the deformation. In this study, a numerical analysis review was performed on the repair work for the local deformation caused by the collision of a vehicle on an old railway bridge installed and in operation in an urban area. To this end, a structural safety review of the bridge for local deformations caused by vehicle collisions was conducted. In this paper, a repair method for the accident bridge was presented based on the analysis results.

  • As implant treatment has become popular, lots of different shapes and materials of the implant upper component have been supplied. And there are also diverse reports about failures including loosening of the abutment screw which is one of the most common reason. Purpose : The purpose of this study is to find out how different screw tightening orders and methods influence on screw loosening according to the different connection systems. The upper component was fabricated by casting method. After fabricating master models that are precisely attached to the upper component, 5 experimental models each for the external connection system and internal connection system were fabricated using splinting impression technique. First, to find out the influence of the screw tightening order, screws were tightened in 3 orders; 1-2-3-4, 2-3-1-4, 2-4-3-1. After tightening, removal torque values (RTV) of each group was measured. And also to find out the influence of screw tightening method, a model with 2-3-1-4 screw tightening order was tightened with 30 Ncm at one time(1-step method) and the RTV was compared with the same order group (2-3-1-4) in the 2 step method. In the external connection system, RTV appeared significantly lower in group 2-3-1-4 than group 2-4-3-1 (p<0.05). And also in the internal connection system, the RTV of group 2-3-1-4 appeared significantly lower than that of group 2-4-3-1 and 1-2-3-4 (p<0.05). When comparing the tightening number of the screw without considering the screw tightening order, the first tightened screw appeared significantly higher RTV than the second one in the external connection system (p<0.05), however there was no significant difference from the first tightened screw to the last tightened screw in the internal connection system. And there was no statistically significant difference between the two screw tightening methods in both internal and external connection system. In the comparison of external and internal connection system, each RTV appeared 16.27 Ncm and 14.25 Ncm and appeared as a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in RTV measured according to the screw tightening order. The lowest RTV appeared in the groups started tightening from the middle. There was also a significant difference in RTV between the two connection system groups. A further study is needed to find out the influence factors in RTV and also a study is required related to the load condition.

  • External confinement by CFS (Carbon Fiber Sheet) is a very effective retrofit method for the reinforced concrete columns subject to either static or seismic loads. For the reliable and cost-effective design of CFS, an accurate stress-strain model is required for CFS-confined concrete. In this paper, uniaxial compression test on short RC column with square section was performed. To evaluate the effect of confinement on the stress-strain relationship of CFS-confined concrete, CFS area ratio and tie area ratio are considered. Based on the experimental results, a stress-strain model is proposed for concrete confined by CFS wraps. In the development of the model, the method to compute the actual hoop strains in CFS jackets at the rupture was examined and resolved. Overall, the results of the model agree well with test data.

  • A study on the effect of altitude-compensation and the possibility of throttling is performed by designing an E-D nozzle that is a type of altitude-compensation nozzles. In order to examine the effect of the altitude-compensation, a CFD analysis is conducted by using three kinds (sea level, altitude at 10 km and 16 km) of the atmosphere condition while maintaining the chamber pressure. Results show that the effective nozzle exit area is also gradually increased when the altitude get increased. Understanding the possibility of throttling, a CFD analysis is conducted by moving the location of the pintle. Just as same as a general pintle thruster, the chamber pressure and thrust are increased when the nozzle throat area get decreased.

  • As time passes, bridge structures require extension work on bridge in use from various effects such as social economical, or traffic environment change. When the concrete is poured at the connection of extension work initial curing concrete is influenced by vibration of vehicles that are passing through the old bridge superstructure. Concrete at early curing stage in construction site should be properly protected, enough to have established sufficient integrity to withstand outside vibration, impact etc. Currently there is no standard specification or regulation in our country. In this paper, experimental variables were divided by vibration velocity and time of loading, and concrete compressive strength and bond strength were measured.

  • When the offshore wind power plant is planned to construct, it is important for the wind farm site to figure out the distribution of the weak soil layers that might cause subsidence by the impact of the external moment from the wind plant's load and an oscillating wind load. Coring test is the optimistic method to figure out weak soil layers, but this method have some problem such as condition of the in-situ or economical limitation. In order to make up for the weak points in coring test, the researches using the geostatistics methods is actually done. In this study, setting a fixed coastal area that offshore wind plants construct firstly and Estimation of distribution on the thickness of the weak soil layer through the geostatistic method is conducted. The weak soil layer is sorted by result of the Standard penetration test, geostatistic method is used to ordinary kring and sequential gaussian simulation and compared to both method's result. As a results of study, we found that both methods show similar estimations of deep weak soil layer and we could evaluate quantitatively the uncertainty of the result.
