'Woori Philosophy' is the modern philosophy of Korea. The purpose of this study is to make a hypothetical model of the methodologies used in Woori Philosophy, to analyze and classify this system of thought as it appears in the Jeon-gyeong (『典經』), to confirm the effectiveness of the model's application, and to present the model's methodological best practices. In this paper, I have made a standard for Woori Philosophy by combining existing studies. Thereby, although it is preliminary, I have presented the model as a way of achieving Woori philosophy by analysis and division of this thought in the Jeon-gyeong. As a result, the Jeongyeong's content is organized into an order in frequency which emerges as Model②, Model①, Essential Model, Model④, and Model③. These models can be evaluated to show that the Jeon-gyeong progressively inherited different schools of traditional Korean thought, while simultaneously characterizing them as Korean in many areas, never ignored the problems of the times or an awareness of the world, and furthermore, did not senselessly or blindly accept foreign objects spread into Korea from 1880~1890. Therefore, the Jeon-gyeong shows a comprehensive methodology for the implementation of Woori philosophy based on its own historical setting. It can be evaluated as the best practices which took many ideas and made those ideas its own. Through this, I was able to confirm its effectiveness as a methodology of Woori Philosophy and was able to extract its best practices. However, the ideas in the Jeon-gyeong did not directly become Woori Philosophy. To solve our problems in the 21st century, there is still an assignment to interpret these ideas through the application of this model. If the existing research on Daesoon Thought (大巡思想) is to become Woori Philosophy, then it should do so through the application of this model.
1. Objective : This research is a study about constitutional diagnosis through the external appearances, especialy it is for finding shape differences of the upper-face pictures of moire, according to the Sasang constitution 2. Method : We have collected 98 cases of femail patients of the Sasang Constitutional Department, including employees of the Kyung-Hee Medical Center and took pictures of moire of upper face and measured 50 points. We analyzed shape differences of the upper face according to the Sasang constitution. 3. Results : Analysing the moire of upper face, the characteristics according to sasang constitution presented. 4. Conclusion : Soyangin had a projected part of left upper face compared with taeumin. With the image of moire, the characteristics of upper face according to sasang constitution was found.
To the mid 19th from the early 20th century, there were many movements about religion in Korea society. Protestant which first flew in 1885 grew up greatly and Confucianism of traditional thought sought for religionization to survive. At once new religions named Korea ethnical religion appeared. They are Donghak(東學), Daejonggyo(大倧敎), Jeungsangyo(甑山敎) and Won-Buddhism. Generally speaking, these ethnical religions deeply relates with Korea original mental culture. In this paper, I want to infer that these religions have Korea origin metal culture. The first, I will consider some traditional thoughts of (1) worshiping of Heaven, (2) practice and (3) harmony from traditional (religious) ceremonies and thoughts. Ans then I will infer how these traditional thoughts from origin mental culture appear in ethnical religions of Donghak(東學), Won-Buddhism(圓佛敎), and Jeungsangyo(甑山敎).
This study is subjected to those gardens of the Korean Folk Village 'Oeam-Ri' designed in 1920s. - transitional period of traditional gardens - and define socio-cultural change's influences and through documents on garden design, descendant's testimony and measured drawings, to understand that period's garden culture's characteristics according to garden design elements. This study applied following analysis methods and procedures to derive out characteristics of transitional garden culture. Analysis on socio-cultural characteristics in 1920s. Analysis on actual condition of transitional garden's design. In this point Outline of the Garden, Space formation, Garden designing elements are (1) water landscape, (2) plant, (3) structures, (4) paving, to derive out characteristics of the transitional garden. The results follow as below; First, during the transitional period 1920s, the economical development, fueled by opening nation's door to foreign countries and indication of collapse of statue systems together with idea of practical science and Enlightenment Thought, was element of changes in garden style. Second, Garden Designers of transitional gardens in 'Oeam-Ri' were limited to upper class of the society. They were wealthy enough to maintain their high social statue in rapidly changing society. As results, tendency of returning to nature developed gardens located in a site of scenic beauty and development of geographical features arranging techniques, and also showed copying foreign styles. Third, arrangement of garden and space composition, in most cases, composed of buildings and yards. Changes in water landscape features and garden spaces are centered to main-yard. Major changes of the garden spaces are water landscapes and plants that showing foreign influences. Fifth, scenic appearance techniques appears with dense garden space and emphasizing visual scenic view. Sixth, the characteristics of transitional garden design techniques are development of geographical feature arranging techniques, changes and mixture of the materials and garden types, emphasizing garden's decorative beauty, change of concept of yard within house into garden, changes from 'borrowing of landscapes' to 'selecting landscapes', changes of front garden from emptiness to fullness, changes of attitudes of enjoying gardens from 'staying calm in the garden' to 'moving or walking in the garden', changes to inner-oriented view, and changes from 'just watching and enjoying the nature' to 'enjoying specific objects'. This study is one of the efforts to restore the identity of Korean Traditional Garden by approaching and observing modern era which function as bridge between tradition and present day, and we observed transitional aspects of changes of traditional garden into modern garden. Hereafter, more studies will be needed to Modern Garden Design be recognized as part of Korean Garden Design History and these would be author's next assignment.
Objectives The aim of this study was to make an analysis of clinical characteristics and status of Sasang constitutional medicine of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms who visited a Korean medicine hospital. Methods We studied 287 patients with gastrointestinal symptoms who visited a Korean medicine hospital from March 1, 2010 to February 30, 2012. We retrospectively collected medical history and characteristics of subjects using data of EMR (electronic medical record). Results The proportion of female was higher than male. Most patients was suffered from chronic gastrointestinal disorder. And they were not under western medicine treatment. Among the 287 patients, 139 persons (48.43%) were Soyangin, 88 persons (30.66%) Taeeumin and 60 persons Soeumin (20.91%). The proportion of Soyangin was higher than other Sasang types. In the distribution of prescription according Sasang Constitutional Medicine symptomatology, the proportion of exterior disease's prescription was higher than interior disease in Soyangin (93.53%). And the proportion of interior disease's prescription was higher than exterior disease in Taeeumin (75.86%) and Soeumin (95.00%). The majority of disease were Gyolhyung-symptom (51.54%) and Mangeum-syndrome (46.15%) of exterior disease in Soyangin, Dry-febrile symptom (73.56%) of interior disease in Taeeumin, and Taeeum-syndrome (95.00%) of interior disease in Soeumin. Conclusions By analyzing on clinical characteristics and distribution of Sasang Constitutional Medicine symptomatology could contribute to the development of guideline for treatment of gastrointestinal disease of Sasang Constitutional Medicine.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and standardize the four scales of Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution ClassificationII (QSCCII). QSCCII is newly prepared by statistical item analysis and is designed to examine its diagnostic discriminability. QSCCII is administered to 1366 random informants. From the survey, we could get the data for the standardization. The criteria of standardization are based on the data from 265 informants who are examined by professionals. Collected data are analyzed by internal consistency, variation analysis(ANOVA), Duncan test and discrimination analysis of SPSS PC+ V4.0 program. The results are as follows 1) The reliability of four scales for QSCCII is relatively valid. The internal consistency of Tae-yang(太陽) scale is Cronbach's ${\alpha}=0.5708$. That of So-yang(少陽) scale is ${\alpha}=0.5708$. That of Tae-eum(太陰) scale is ${\alpha}=0.5922$. That of So-eum(少陰) scale is ${\alpha}=0.6319$. 2) There is a significant difference between each group through variation analysis of four scales. 3) The process of standardization is based on the average value and standard deviation with respect to age and sex difference of each criteria. 4) This study suggests a source of standardization of Sasang Constitution Classification by providing norms in which the differences of age, sex, and number of items are taken into deep consideration. QSCCII, therefore, can be applied to every age(the 10's to the 60's) and sex groups. 5) The recalculation of the raw-score to standard value (T-score) shows that the diagnostic discriminability (Hit-ratio : 70.08%) of QSCCII brings about 37% improvement than proportional chance criteria(33.33%). Especially, Hit-ratios of Tae-eum In(74.5%) and So-eum In(70.8%) are higher than that of So-yang In(60.0%). 6) QSCC has discriminability only to male informants. Compared with QSCC, however, QSCCII has relatively efficient discriminability both to male and female informants. 7) These results would be a demonstration of the fact that the QSCCII could be used as a tool for sasang constitution classification.
A 55-year-old male was admitted to our hospital complaining of chest discomfort, dysphagia and severe pain on swallowing. Esophageal manometry showed that there was no relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter to swallowing. There was double barrelled esophagus or mucosal stripe appearance on esophagogram. Endoscopy revealed an appearance as if an esophago-tracheal fistula had been made at the level of the upper thoracic esophagus. Also, two slit-like mucosal tears was seen on the lower esophagus. There after, fasting and total parenteral nutrition for several weeks failed to bring about any changes in his symptoms. So, as treatment, primary closure of the upper opening of the false lummen was performed under general anesthesia. Soon after the surgical procedure, the patient's symptoms were improved except for mild dysphagia. He was discharged after oral intake had been juduciously commenced with fluids and soft diet subsequently. During follow-up in out-patient department, he had no specific symptoms including fever or dysphagia and massive dissection of the esophagus was improved on esophagogram. To develop the tourism industry, which is a 'no smoking environment-friendly green industry' and can contribute to creating jobs, it is the goal of top priority to resolve foreign tourists' discomfort and fear by allowing them to look around the country satisfactorily without fear and return to their home and inducing them to naturally promote tourism in South Korea to people around them. No matter how great tourist attractions a country has, there is not many foreign tourists who will go on a tour trembling with fear of crimes such as thefts, frauds, threats and blackmail. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare the conditions of tourism free from various illegal acts and inconveniences for domestic and foreign tourists, and for this, it is urgently necessary to make efforts to improve laws and institutions. Domestic tourists can report their complaints themselves through the Tourist Complaint Center of Korea Tourist Service, Inc. or Korea Consumer Agency, or to the police through the 112 Crime Report. In contrast, there are a lot of cases in which foreign tourists cannot receive compensation as it is not easy for them to report due to the differences in language, culture and the criminal justice system though they have suffered illegal acts or inconveniences. This, consequently, has an adverse effect that would disturb the tourism in South Korea as the tourists may spread its bad images to people around them after they return to their home countries with discomfort, so it is urgently necessary to establish a foreign tourist-centered tourist police system.
The author exprienced a case of glycogen storage disease type Ia(GSD-I) in an 18-year-old male patient who was admitted to our hospital due to proteinuria and hypertension. he was suspected to have GSD when 12 years old because of his family history of short stature and hepatomegaly. On admission, physical examination revealed short stature, heparomegaly, and The diagnosis of GSD-I was confirmed by compatible liver biopsy finding and enzyme assay which erealeddeficiency of glcose-6-phosphatase if hepatocyte. Sympromatic treatment was done using antihypertensive drugs and allopurinol with diet control. The authors report a case of glycogen storage disease type Ia completely confirmed by typical clinical manifestation, pathologic findings of the liver and the kidney, and the result of enzyme assay which revealed deficiency of glucose-6-phosphatase in hepatocytes with brief review fo related literatures.
