  • Weather launch criteria of launch at Oenarodo Space Center is important for the successful launch operation. In particular, most of the launch failure occurs during the period of separation from the launch pad, thus meteorological condition is critical at this phase. In earlier days, the weather launch criteria adopted wind and forecast data for the launch operation. Nevertheless, the control of position and stability require other meteorological components such as vertical wind shear, lightning, temperature and visibility, because the launch vehicle is moving mostly vertically. We analyze these meteorological components by using the observed data at KMA at neighboring Oenarodo to determine the weather launch criteria. These criteria need further refinements through long-term observation.

  • This study presents the flora of vascular plants on Oenarodo Island, located in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. A list of vascular plants was created based on the herbarium of the National Biological Resource Center (NIBR) and the Daejeon University Biology Department herbarium (TUT) collected from field surveys. Based on specimens collected in the field during 21 separate field trips amounting to a total of 21 days conducted between March of 2015 and October of 2017, there are 587 taxa on Oenarodo Island, consisting of 122 families, 364 genera, 538 species, six subspecies, 41 varieties, and two forms. Among the collected plants, those endangered were four taxa, those endemic were 14 taxa, floristic regional indicator plants specially designated by the Ministry of the Environment amounted to 137 taxa, and those naturalized amounted to 46 taxa.

  • For this study, we carried out a field survey on the analysis for the spatial distributions of phytoplankton community in the eleven areas of the Korean South Sea during the early summer of 2018. The results from the study showed that the phytoplankton community consisted of 56 genera and 105 species showing by diatoms with 52.4%, dinoflagellates with 40.0% and other phytoflagellates with 7.6%. The cell density of the phytoplankton ranged from 5.5 to 593.2 cells mL-1. The species number and cell density of the phytoplankton were high in the eastern waters of the South Sea and low in the western one. The phytoplankton community showed the characteristics of being dominated by the diatoms except in the Geumpo of Namhae, Ocheon-dong of Yeosu and Oenarodo of Goheung. The dominant species of the phytoplankton community were the centric diatoms, Skeletonema costatum-like species (ls), except for the Ocheon-dong and Chungdo of Wando. However, the Ocheon-dong was dominated by toxic dinoflagellate, Gymnodinium catenatum by 41.1% dominance. On the other hand, Keumpo and Oenarodo was by dinoflagellate, Tripos fusus more than 12% dominance in the surface layer. The spatial distribution of the phytoplankton community in the coastal waters of the Korean South Sea in the early summer were determined by the supply of nutrients through precipitation.

  • The present study aimed to investigate the local moth fauna and population change during a year on Island Oenarodo (N34$^{\circ}$27'50", E127$^{\circ}$28'06", 74 m a. s. l.), Goheung-gun, Jeonnam. Moth collecting was carried out using a light trap from March to October, 2007. A total of 231 species and 562 individuals in 14 families were identified. Species of Noctuidae were the most abundant with 86 species and 163 individuals, followed by Geometridae (60 species and 147 individuals) and Pyralidae (39 species and 135 individuals), respectively. Monthly changes of moths species richness and abundance were M-shaped with two peaks at late Spring and late Summer. During the study, a geometrid, Menophra senilis, and a pyralid, Endotricha olivacealis were most abundant with 16 individuals. The estimated species richness using Chao 1 identified 646 species, suggesting that we need more extensive and long-term survey for the better understanding of the total moth fauna on the island.

The vascular plants were classified as 56 taxa 32 families 53 genera 50 species 6 varieties in Mokdo, 92 taxa 47 families 80 genera 81 species 9 varieties and 2 forms in Mijo-ri, 68 taxa 47 families 65 genera 58 species 9 varieties and 1 forms in Mijodo, 57 taxa 39 families 52 genera 53 species 4 varieties in Kkamakseom, 124 taxa 59 families 105 genera 112 species 11 varieties 1 subspecies in Aedo, 90 taxa 46 families 75 genera 83 species 7 varieties in Sayangdo, 135 taxa 63 families 111 genera 147 species 13 varieties in Kumodo, 78 taxa 40 families 67 genera 69 species 9 varieties in Chudo, 142 taxa 67 families 113 genera 120 species 20 varieties and 2 forms in Mira-ri, 184 taxa 73 families 150 genera 160 species 24 varieties 1 subspecies in Maengseon-ni, and 196 taxa 79 families 156 genera 172 species 24 varieties 1 subspecies and 1 forms in Yesong-ni. Conservation measures of evergreen broad-leaved forests in the areas, at both the habitat and species levels, are urgently needed to mitigate against destructive human activities, such as unreasonable management and trampling.

  • A total of 10 islands (Kumodo and Komundo in Yeosu City; Oinarodo in Goheung County; Chongsando, Soando, and Pogildo in Wando County; Chodo in Jindo County; Uido, Huksando, and Hongdo in Shinan County) were surveyed to confirm distribution of naturalized plants from June 2006 to December 2008. A total of 100 naturalized plants taxa from 25 families were recorded. The highest number of naturalized plant species (82 taxa) was recorded on Oinarodo, while the lowest number was recorded on Hongdo (42 taxa) and on Uido (34 taxa). A total of 26 naturalized species taxa (such as Dactylis glomerata, Lolium perenne, Bromus unioloides, Rumex obtusifolius, Chenopodium album, Phytolacca americana, Barbarea vulgaris, Lepidium apetalum, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Trifolium repens, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis, Senecio vulgaris, Xanthium strumarium) was recorded in all study areas. Distribution of naturalized plants were categorized into 7 habitat types based on ecological traits: afforested land, beach, port, and vacant land, road boundary, road cut and slope area, waste arable land, landfill area, and wetland. Systematic management is required to conserve unique landscape, species diversity, vegetation and ecosystem of Dadohae National Park. In order to manage the naturalized plants in Dadohae National Park, basic surveys are most needed to understand distribution and dispersal of naturalized plants communities based on ecological features of each habitat type.

  • Recently in Korea, rocket technology is being taken a wide scope as government planning to build Oeinaro-do space center and to select First Korean astronaut. But compared to development in USA, there is a lack of safety rules in amateur rocket. So it is very essential to meet some powerful legal safety rules for keeping pace with increasing popularization of rocket technology. Herein we discuss, in the field of rocket design, making, launching and collecting stage with considering the rules of IRR, NURA and NAR-HIAA.

  • For the variant identification of Korean dogwood, Cornus kousa Buerg., we investigated useful genetic marker using the ISSR primer. The overall amplicons was 58 in six primers and the mean number of amplicons per primer was 9.67. The UPGMA dendrogram based on the genetic distance showed two major clusters composed of pink-bracted and white-bracted groups respectively. And white-bracted group was divided to two groups, island and inland groups. This result showed that ISSR analysis provides useful markers for the variant identification even in the seedling or young tree of Cornus kousa, especially pink-bracted individuals of Isl. Oenaro.
