  • The purpose of this study was to test the effect of socially-perfectionism on depression by mediating ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and experiential avoidance. For this purpose, 201 participants across the country conducted the survey, a measure of MPS, AEQ-K, AAQ-II, CES-D. The descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, path coefficient were conducted using SPSS 23.0. The indirect effect was examined using bootstrap in PROCESS Macro. The results of the study are as follows. First, all the variables had meaningful positive correlations. Secondly, When socially-perfectionism affects depression, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and experiential avoidance were mediated. As a result, the implications and limitations of the study were discussed.

The Effect of Socially-Prescribed Perfectionism of College Students to Depression: Testing the Mediation effect of Intolerance of Uncertainty and Unconditional Self Acceptance (대학생의 사회부과적 완벽주의가 우울에 미치는 영향: 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족과 무조건적 자기수용의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study is to examine the effects of Socially Prescribed Perfectionism on depression by Intolerance of Uncertainty and Unconditional Self Acceptance, and to well being to improve the positive life of college students. This study is conducted on 238 college students who are influenced by Socially Prescribed Perfectionism, Intolerance of Uncertainty, Unconditional Self Acceptance, and Depression. This study analyzed a questionnaire consisted of a sub-component of the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS), a Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale(IUS), an Unconditional Self Acceptance Questionnaire-R(USAQ-R), and a depression scale (CES-D) and verified correlation analysis and structural equation model. The results of this study showed that socially prescribed perfectionism had significant negative correlations with intolerance of uncertainty, and had significant positive correlation with unconditional self acceptance. The results of the structural equation model showed full mediating effect of the intolerance of uncertainty and unconditional self acceptance between Socially prescribed perfectionism and depression, Finally, implications and suggestions are suggested in this study.

  • Objective : This study was conducted to examine the reliability and validity of the Measure of Constructs Underlying Perfectionism-Korean version (M-CUP-K). Methods : Two hundred and six normal subjects completed a battery of measures including M-CUP-K, Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale-Korean version (FMPS-K), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Psychometric properties of the M-CUP-K were analyzed. Results : The principal component analysis for construct validity resulted in 56 items composed of 6 factors (factor 1 : Dissatisfaction-Reactivity to Mistakes; factor 2 : Order-Details and Checking ; factor 3 : Satisfaction ; factor 4 : High standards ; factor 5 : Perceived Pressure from Others-Perfectionism toward Others ; factor 6 : Black and White Thinking about Tasks and Activities), compared to the original version. The M-CUP-K total and subscale scores were more strongly correlated with those of the other perfectionism-specific measure, FMPS-K, with a correlation of 0.822 (convergent validity) than with those of the nonspecific depression measure (discriminant validity). The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ value for internal consistency of M-CUP-K was in an excellent range (r=0.872-0.935). The test-retest reliability for external validity suggested a good temporal stability with a total score correlation of 0.827. Conclusion : This study revealed that the M-CUP-K has good reliability and validity. Therefore, the M-CUP-K can be used as a promising measure of perfectionism in Korea.

  • This research focuses on the development of gifted child behavior checklist which feasibly has application on the nation-wide gifted children observation-recommendation method. Corresponding measure has significance as it reflects actual observations of teachers teaching gifted children first-hand and involves measure of importance regarding each characteristic. An open survey on gifted children behavior characteristics lists and specific behavior patterns has been acquired from teachers in gifted education, and the checklist was developed through expert group review, pre-test, and confirmatory factor analysis process. The former checklists have shown several difficulties on application of observation-recommendation on the field due to behaviors that can't be observed in school, less important behaviors, and collide and duplicate behaviors etc. With regard to such problems, problematic clauses were removed based on the observation probability and importance of the behaviors. Ultimately, total of 32 behavior characteristic checklist consisting of ten sub factors(logical thinking, high achievement, originality, perfectionism, creative problem solving, curiosity, task commitment, conversation ability, creativity, passion) and two to three questions on each factor had been drawn. Through internal consistency test and item-total score correlation, each item of the measure has been analyzed to be consistently evaluating corresponding variables. In addition, the result of confirmatory factor analysis showed every item to be weighed appropriately on its sub-factor, strongly suggesting its feasibility on observation-recommendation of elementary gifted children as an appropriate checklist.
