  • The spreading of hot waste water discharged from the coastal power station is a new problem to marin e circumstances and the fishery. Because the survey of hot waste water discharges should be performed is multaneously across wide areas, it is very difficult. Some sensors of the Landsat can draw the spread and distribution of water temperature from wavelength range of thermal infrared. The present study applied the GIS after stretching DN for the purpose of drawing a more accurate distribution of water temperature. Accordingly, the pattern of water temperature distribution could be expressed more precisely for a broad area, and the spread and distribution of hot waste water could be analyzed economically.

  • When planning outfall system, the first target cif design is to maximize initial dilution of discharge effluent. To achieve the target effectively, the characteristics of mixing phenomenon between ambient and discharged water should be analyzed. Especially the analysis at the Near-Field-Region(NFR) as initial dilution zone should be preceded. Usually, the initial behavior of effluent through outfall system is rising toward the surface due to mixing with ambient water for heat discharge and sinking toward the bottom due to the difference of density for brine discharge. After mixed with eddies accompanied by the ambient water, the plumes are showing the same density and internal current pattern by advection and diffusion. Until recently, lots of studies are being carried out for the optimum design of outfall system. but it is difficult to find any studies of heat and brine discharge at the same time. Therefore, this study is hoped to provide some basic data for optimum design of outfall system.

  • To get the maximum diffusion boundary of thermal effluent of Youngkwang Nuclear Power Plant, paths of TGPS Buoy and temperatures of surface water are obtained to 4 times at spring tide during 1 year. According to the paths of TGPS Buoy, the flumes of thermal effluent are moved about 12km from outlet to SW or WSW direction. After 3∼4 times of tidal period the waters are reached to Chilsan Island because the ebb flow is more predominant than the flood flow in this area. At the spring and fall season, a sudden drop of surface water temperature is detected around 5km radius from the outlet. At the summer season, it is measured about 10km. On the other hand the flumes are continuously cooled down by the atmosphere condition at winter season.

  • The qualitative and quantitative prediction for the dispersion of thermal discharge from nuclear / fossil power plant, steel works etc. has significant roles for the cooling system. Design and environmental management. In this study, the several important physical properties for the behavior of a thermal discharge with strong turbulent and buoyant effects are described. The comparative evaluation between MIT and PDS models is carried out, which have the different model structures. In general, MIT and PDS models are commonly used to calculate the thermal discharge behavior with considering the ambient current and the angle of jet in an unstratified water body. The simulated results by these models have great discrepancies due to the different assumptions in modling.

  • In this research, the image obtained by TM platformed in the LANDSAT-5 and the terrestrial infrared image obtained by the Thermo Tracer were employed in order to search the distribution of industrial thermal plume discharged into seas. Sea surface temperature distributions were deduced based on the infrared band 6 in the TM image of the LANDSAT by employing the transformal formula provided by the CSFC of the NASA and post-calibration values. The temperature distributions were also obtained with the processing mode of the TH1100 series from the terrestrial thermal image or the Thermo tracer. According to the results of the image analyses with this methods, it was found that sea surface temperatures in shallow coastal area largely affected by the temperatures of the freshwater and inland and that the range and the area of distribution of the thermal plume can be visualized quantitatively. Furthermore, when the terrestrial thermal infrared scanner is used, the more details of the distribution range can be obtained, and the image results are comparable to those obtained from the LNADSTA.

  • Recently, the cooling water of power plant was included in RPS(Renewable Portpolio Standard) as water heat energy. Thus the trend of cooling water application is growing bigger for agriculture and fishing industry. Especially as energy consumption cost in agriculture and fishing industry is a vital element, the interests for energy efficiency is growing bigger. The advanced agriculture country like Netherlands is distributing diagnosis software to the farmers based on ICT diagnostic system for the efficient energy consumption and energy demand amounts depend on crops of cultivation in automated horticulture. Hereafter, in the preparation of the expansion of the automated agriculture domestically by the cooling water of power plant, we would like to propose the energy application case(Greenery) in the advanced countries abroad in agriculture and EMS system about the application of the cooling water in power plant.

  • Dispersion characteristics of surface discharge heat water in shallow region are investigated for coastal power plant with nearly constant depth of 20 meters by observing the seasonal depthwide temperature in several stations, which give or precise horizontal distribution and vertical structure of heat water. Surface discharged heat water in shallow coast in the Yellow Sea relies mainly on ambient tidal flow. so it behaves as free jet when the ambient now is strong and shows plumelike behavior during stagnant tide. According to observation the neat field region is estimated as 200-300 meters and shows distinct vertical profile and exponentially decreasing pattern from discharge point for this region. But there are no remarkable vertical distortion of temperature beyond 800 meters even though it is discharged from surface. Characteristic length scale model, CORMIX3, is applied and compared with the field date Overall tendency of CORMIX3 results resemble well with field data especially in near field and intermediate region.
